weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans

I am unexpectedly working from home today. Irma decided that she wanted to head straight to Birmingham after wreaking havoc all over Florida so most all of the schools in the metro area are closed today…and some even tomorrow. I think we are just supposed to get high winds and lots of rain, and there is concern of downed trees and power outages and that is why the state buildings and schools are closed. Whatever. I will take it. I didn’t want to get out with Zoe in this crap anyways.

Chris and I were glued to the TV all day yesterday watching Irma coverage. We were both up before 5am watching it. I am glad that everyone I know in Florida is safe, but it was crazy watching everything happen. I did manage to take Zoe out after her morning nap yesterday to get our grocery shopping done and pick up some food from Munoz.

Backing up to Friday, i left work early to take Zoe to her 9 month wellness visit. They do a lot of developmental testing at this appointment, and I am proud to say that Zoe was way above average on all the sections they cover. Proud mama over here! It is just astonishing how much she has changed in the last month. Yesterday, I watched her walk her push toy across the living room without any assistance. Crazy!!! The doctor strongly urged me to give her a flu shot since she is in daycare, so I agreed. I hate making those type of decisions. I never in my life got a flu shot until I was pregnant last year.

That evening, we stayed in and watched Catastrophe and I made homemade kung pao chicken and fried rice. It was so good!

Saturday morning during Zoe’s nap, I got the front and side yard cut and some cleaning done around the house. We ended up going over to Chris’s parents house to watch the Alabama game. I finally got to wear the fun Alabama stack of bracelets that my mom got me for Christmas. She picked out three that went so perfectly together! How cute is that elephant?

We did start The Americans last night. The first episode had as hooked pretty quickly, so maybe it will be another show we add to our list to watch regularly. Other than that, not much else to report here. If you live in the southeast, stay safe today and tomorrow as Irma blows through! Linking up with Biana.

about me, currently

Currently

It is time to link up with Kristen and Gretch for a currently post!

Reading: I am finishing up Jane Green’s Falling and Roanoke Girls right now. I hope to have both done before the link up on Tuesday!

Watching: We are waiting for all the fall shows to start back! We started watching Catastrophe this past weekend and are in the second season. I really like it. I also watch episodes of Young and Hungry when Chris has other things to do. We are still catching episodes of Younger when they come on.

Planning: I can’t believe I am about to say this, but Zoe’s first birthday is just a few short months away!!! I have the theme for her party picked out and ordered the first thing for it this past weekend. I know what I want her outfit to look like and I need to call and schedule her one year/smash cake pictures too! I can’t talk about it anymore or I might start crying. A year??? No.

Debating: On if we are going to Gatlinburg or not after Christmas this year. The fires last year devastated the area and the supply of chalets is really low right now, which means they are asking A LOT for them. We didn’t go last year because we had a brand new baby and weren’t in any shape to travel, so we really want to go this year. It is a tradition and we enjoy it so much!

Lusting: Have you guys looked around the clothing department at Target lately??? There are so many things I want right now!!! I always get excited when the fall clothes come out, their tones just suit me and my pale skin so much better. How gorgeous is this color top??

How cozy does this poncho look?

Love this pretty color too!!!

This green sweater would be so perfect this fall/winter!!! I don’t have this color right now and I am loving everything I see in it.

Welcoming: Fall!!! I am excited that fall is here! Cooler temps, football, new shows, and all the holidays will be here before we know it. I am hoping to do a few fall fun activities with Zoe and start some traditions. Do you have any traditions that you do with your family or you did when you were little that you loved? I think a trip to a pumpkin patch is always fun, but what else?

Photographing: Zoe, of course! And food. Always food. I keep saying that I am going to get Chris’s fancy camera out and learn how to use it, but seriously…I need to make that a priority this fall! My iphone does a fabulous job for the every day things, but I would love to stage some pictures of my own every few months. There are so many picture ideas on Pinterest. Especially with the holidays coming up!

What’s new with you?

Nine Months

Nicknames:Little Z, Z, Zoe Bear, Bear, Cheeks, Lovey, Little Miss, Booger Butt, Monkey, Zo-Zo

Loves: Moving! Long gone are the days when you want to just chill. You are constantly crawling around and pulling up on everything you can get your grip on. Your favorite toys right now are your Vtech Walker, your yellow chair and  your activity table. You also like your tea pot and still play with your shape sorter and stacking cups.

Hates: All of a sudden you hate getting changed. Putting on your jammies at night is pretty much a melt down every time. It makes me so sad because you used to love our changing table talks. The second I sit you down there now, you either  scream or immediately turn over and try to crawl away.

Milestones: This has been the biggest month yet for change!!! You started daycare. You have adjusted pretty well, but you still cry some mornings when I try to leave and break my heart. You are crawling!!!! You can pull up to a standing position all on your own and have most recently just started using furniture to walk around a little. You mastered sitting up from the laying down position. It was really cute when you first were figuring it out because you “back in to” the sitting position. You play peek-a-boo with us now, wave purposefully and sort of have the high five down thanks to your daycare teacher! You also said your first word this month!!! It was mama!!!! You also now say baba and blah blah.

Clothing: For clothes, most of your stuff is 6-9 months or 9 months. We had to move you up to 12 month jammies a few weeks ago because you were too tall for the 9 month ones! Your 12 month clothes are still a little big on you though. You tend to outgrow things lengthwise first. You are still in a size 3 diaper, but I think the next pack of nighttime diapers we get are going to be 4’s. I like them to be big on you.

Feeding/Sleeping: We are on the same schedule this  month as last month with your feedings and naps when you are home. Daycare has sort of thrown you off a little on naps. You don’t really nap well when you are there and usually only take one short nap. You eat any puree that I give you, and your new favorite food is yogurt! You get so excited when you eat yogurt, and often times you scream at me when it is all gone. I tried to give you some yogurt melts and puffs this month, but I don’t think you are quite ready for them. You sort of just play with them and not really eat them.

Looks: Your eyes and hair have stayed the same color this past month. I have noticed that your hair has gotten a lot longer recently!!

Things I want to remember from this month…

–How excited you get when you stand up!!! You smile so big!!!

–You are really starting to belly laugh now. You throw your head back and really laugh and it is my most favorite sound ever.

–It is not often that you want to just snuggle and chill with me, but every once in awhile you lay your head on my shoulder and give me a hug. That is the best feeling in the world!

–Watching you roll a ball on the ground and crawl after is so fun!

–You take your stacking cups and put them up to your mouth and yell in to them. It is hilarious.

–The first time you said mama my heart stopped and I asked you to repeat it. You said it over and over and over again with the biggest smile on your face.

–Your obsession with books makes me so happy. Right now  your favorite book is Who Goes Moo.

Last Weekend of Summer Shenanigans

I know that the weather will remain in the 80’s here until about November, but I see Labor Day weekend as the end of summer. I welcome fall with open arms. Bring on the football, cooler temps, pretty leaves and fall clothing. I celebrated this morning with my first PSL of the season!

This weekend, we didn’t do too much. We are all still recovering from being sick. And if I recall back to Friday night, I am pretty sure Chris worked for like five hours while I watched Young and Hungry. Do you watch that show? So cute.

Anyways, Saturday was the start of college football!!! We hung around the house all day and watched games, cleaning while Zoe napped. There is something refreshing about a bathroom deep clean, no? I steamed the floors and bleached the shit out of every inch of surface in there. Everything is so sparkly and clean! We had both TVs in the living room going with different games. I was a little nervous that Alabama started the season with such a tough first game….but we pulled out a big W!!! I kept the football snacks healthy, we enjoyed some sweet potato nachos. Chris had the Hues lights set on red all evening, hence the weird colored pictures.

We managed to have breakfast all weekend, which was delicious. Zoe and I headed out to do our grocery shopping after her morning nap while Chris cut the backyard.

On Labor Day, Chris had to go to work for a little while. Zoe and I headed over to my sister’s house for lunch and got to hang out with her family and my mom for awhile.

I made Italian sausage stuffed zucchini boats for dinner last night which turned out pretty good!

And that is pretty much our weekend! We did start Catastrophe on Sunday. So far, we like it. It is something different. Have you seen it? I am so ready for the fall shows to start back up! I hope you all had a great weekend! Linking up with Biana.

about me

School Is For Fools

Linking up with TBB for TBB Asks again. The end of summer is here. September is all about school. It has been a long time since I got to do any back to school shopping. While I was a ball of nerves the first day, I loved the actual prep for it.

1.Did you love school or hate it?

Even though I did very well throughout school, I wasn’t a big fan. Kids are assholes.

2. Start school before or after Labor Day?

When I was in elementary school in Pennsylvania, it was always after Labor Day. By the time we lived in Georgia when I was in high school, we were starting around my birthday in mid-August.

3.Wake up: Eager Beaver or Slow Poke?

I definitely remember hitting the snooze button many times or telling my mom to go away.

4. Favorite Breakfast?

I loved French Toast but mostly ate cereal because it was quick.

5. Favorite Cereal?

Crispex

6.School uniform or no school uniform?

no

7.New outfit for the first day of school or no?

Always yes! I loved picking out my school supplies and clothes for the school year. My mom always took us shopping. Choosing your first day outfit was the most  important thing, was it not? It set your tone for the rest of the school year!

8. Walk to school or ride the bus?

I rode the bus every year until I could drive my junior year.

9. Backpack, tote or messenger bag?

Most years it was a Jansport backpack. I tried to make a messenger bag a thing for awhile, but always ended up back with a backpack.

10. Eat school lunch or pack lunch?

98% of the time I brought my lunch. Every once in awhile I would buy, but hardly ever.

11. Remember the little milk cartons? White or chocolate?

Since I packed my lunch, I didn’t really get the milk cartons at school. If I did, it was always chocolate. I wasn’t a big milk drinker. I preferred water bottles, juice boxes or capri suns.

12.Paper bag or lunch box?

Both. When I was younger it was a lunch box, when I got to high school it was mostly paper bag.

13. Favorite thing to do at recess?

Hmmm I don’t remember much about recess. Maybe swing?

14. Favorite back to school supply item?

Writing utensils! I loved picking my pens and pencils out.

15.Chalkboard or dry erase board?

When I was in elementary school, it was always chalk boards. I think in high school is when the dry erase boards took over all our classrooms.

16. Regular or mechanical pencil?

Mechanical! Who has time to keep regular ones sharpened?

17. Homework as soon as you get home or after dinner?

I really don’t remember this either. I know I always got it done.

18. Favorite after school snack?

fruit or celery and peanut butter

19. Favorite after school show?

My sister and I watched a lot of Nick.

20. Favorite subject in school?

English

21. Least favorite school subject.

Geometry was the absolute worst!!!! And often times, I was bored during history.

22. Name of  your best friend in high school.

Erin

23. High school mascot.

I was a Wildcat for the first year and a half, then an Eagle when we moved to Georgia the middle of my sophomore year.

24. SAT or ACT

I took the SAT. Funny story, my first day at my new school in Georgia was the day they were taking the SAT practice test. Talk about getting thrown to the wolves, right???

25. Favorite year in school.

My middle school days. I went to a smaller school in Missouri then and I had such a great group of friends, was super involved in activities and just remember having a lot of fun.

26. Class ring or no class ring?

I had a class ring with my graduation year on one side, and my flute on the other. My birthstone was the stone instead of the school color.

27. Attend or not attend high school reunions?

Not attend. When I graduated high school, I had only been in school with those kids for two and a half years. I didn’t grow up with them. It was such a huge school, over 1,000 people in my graduating class. I care nothing about going to the reunions. Honestly, I only follow a select few people from high school on Facebook and haven’t seen any of them in years since I don’t even live in the same state.

I hope you are all enjoying your long weekend!!! I will be back tomorrow with weekend shenanigans!
