Confessions

–I had strawberry shortcake for breakfast two days in a row.

–I strongly believe there is a difference between cool whip in a container and the whipped cream you get in a squirt can. I want the one in the can because let’s be honest, I squirt that shit right in to my mouth. Also, it tastes way better.

–In non-fat kid confessions, I have really been working on my arms. Gotta look good in all these short sleeved and sleeveless tops I will be wearing all summer!

–I wear my jean jacket way to often in the spring and summer. It makes all of my fun summer dresses work appropriate. Perhaps I should get another one that looks different so it doesn’t look like I am wearing the same thing 3-4 days a week.

–I seriously geeked out over my Allure box this month, but is there anything better than trying out new skin care products and loving them? I think not!! Washing my face in the evenings is a real task when I am tired so when I have something new to get excited about, it is a little less daunting.

–My pale as shit legs haven’t stopped me from wearing all the dresses the last few weeks. Pasty is the new sexy guys, come on let’s make it a thing!!!

–I get really impatient in between Audible credits. I really wish my library wasn’t so tiny and shitty and had more than three audio books to borrow. I am not exaggerating you guys, they literally have three. Their ebook selection isn’t much better. Thank goodness for Netgalley, am I right?!?!

Books Lately

It’s book day!!! This was a really good reading month for me, as I had two five star  books and two four star books!! Linking up with Steph and Jana.

One Plus One by Jojo Moyes

One Plus One

Jojo Moyes is a wonderful author. She has a way of sucking you in to her characters and their stories. This was such a great read! I did this one via Audible. I hate when people compare this book to Me Before You. Stop it. That book was amazing, but this book is a complete stand alone and a wonderful story in itself. I loved each of the characters, and while the author switches the POV for different chapters, it is not hard to follow. It started out a little slow for me but once you get in to this book, you are in deep!

Bottom Line: Read it!!! This book made me laugh, smile and cry.

Rating: 5/5

Try Not To Breathe by Holly Seddon

Try Not to Breathe

This is a mystery book about a girl named Amy who went missing in 1995 and was found in a vegetative state and has been living in a ward at the hospital ever since. A doctor has discovered that some of his patients do in fact have brain activity and can communicate through research testing. Alex, an alcoholic journalist, is writing a story about Amy and discovers some facts that could lead the police to who actually did this. But can she get her alcoholism under control enough to accomplish that?

This book was both really interesting, but slow moving. I didn’t really understand the whole point of Alex’s alcohol problem and how it played in to the rest of the book until the end. There were certainly some parts that could have sped up or been left out to make the book move along quicker, but it was still a decent read.

Bottom Line: If you like mysteries, this was a decent read. I thought I knew who did it all along but I was actually wrong. Though to be honest, the ending fell a little flat for me.

Rating: 3/5

**I received a copy of Try Not to Breathe from Netgalley but all opinions are  honest and of my own.**

After We Fall by Marquita Valentine

After We Fall (Take the Fall, #3)

This is mostly a love story, but also a story about surviving and moving on. Evangeline was nearly beaten to death by her husband, and officer Hunter Sloan finds her. He cant get her out of his mind and has a troubled past of his own. They end up as neighbors, but Evangeline has sworn off men and dating for awhile.

Bottom Line: I really liked this book. Some love stories are sort of cheesy or don’t have a lot of depth, but this one was quite enjoyable. The book moves along rather quickly, I finished it in just a few sittings. Read it.

Rating: 4/5

The Girl From Summer Hill by Jude Deveraux

The Girl from Summer Hill (Summer Hill, #1)

This is a modern day retelling of Pride and Prejudice. I have never actually read Pride and Prejudice or seen any movie version so I can’t really compare the two but what I will say is that I enjoyed this novel. It took me a little while to get in to, and there was a character in the book I couldn’t stand….but you were supposed to not be able to stand him by the end. I thought this was a really cute retelling and I am glad I read it.

Bottom Line: Whether you liked Pride and Prejudice or not…I think this is a good read. I really enjoyed it and it was cute. Read it.

Swear On This Life by Renee Carlino

Swear on This Life

What would you do if you discovered a best selling book was written about your life?!  This book is about two kids who had a rough life and became friends out of necessity for each other, and weren’t aware at the time, but were so much more. This is an epic love story and I connected with Em and Jax/Jase instantly and their story of struggle really touched my heart. There is nothing about this book that I didn’t like. You guys…..this book!!! This is my second book from Renee Carlino and I absolutely loved it! I actually think I like this book even more than Before We Were Strangers which I also rated 5 stars.

Bottom Line: Just read it!!!!!!!!!! I am going to go ahead and say it, probably one of my top reads so far this year. Cant wait to see what Renee releases next.

Rating: 5/5

Weekend Shenanigans

May sure came quickly and it just seems to be flying right by. I mean, how is it May 9th already?! And more importantly, how is it Monday??

For whatever reason, last week was exhausting. Friday evening we settled in for some TV and retired rather early.

Saturday morning I finished the book I was reading, cleaned the house, kick some Wooly Yoshi butt on the Wii U and then we headed downtown to grab a late lunch at Fuego. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day…well entire weekend…here in Birmingham. Just look at the sky!!!

We like to refer to that as the satan fountain in Five Points.

We enjoyed the amazing patio weather, ordered some chips and salsa and  taco salad and it was perfect.

When’s the last time you had orange soda??? Delicious!!!

Saturday evening we spent some time with Chris’s parents and then when we came home Chris’s friend came over and I decided to curl up in bed to start a new book, which was amazing and I am almost done with it and hope to have it in my link up post tomorrow!!!!

Oh and I also got the May Allure box in the mail and tried out the Foreo and OMG!!! I am in love!!! I cant wait to get a review up on this box in a few weeks, it might be my favorite yet!

Sunday we celebrated Mother’s Day with Chris’s family at my SIL. They ordered in Moe’s and we hung out for awhile and then got our grocery shopping done and came home to watch the Chicago shows; Med, Fire and PD. I might have also enjoyed some mint chocolate chip ice cream inside a waffle bowl. YOLO.

And just like that, the weekend was over. I hope you all have a fabulous week!!!

Favorite Song: I Could Be Stronger (But Only For You) by Gareth Emery. Nice and chill.

Favorite Moment: Girl’s night was much needed last night. We met up for Babalu for Cinco de Mayo because the day was meant to be celebrated with guac, am I right?! I couldn’t resist ordering the enchiladas of the day. Yes, they are sitting in jalapeno cheese sauce. You’re welcome.

Favorite Beauty Product: After trying many many foundations at Sephora, I stumbled upon the Stila Perfectly Poreless Putty Perfector. I had actually really wanted to try the Stila Aqua Glow Serum Foundation and we found a color (fair) that was gorgeous on me….but the foundation was way too luminous and wasn’t soaking into my skin at all. I wasn’t too crazy to try a powder, as I was concerned about coverage. Right now my skin is a disaster and I need medium to full coverage. You guys…this stuff is pretty damn amazing and I am so impressed with how perfect the shade is for me and how much coverage this little compact delivers! The only thing I don’t love is the $39 price tag for less than an ounce of foundation. But I feel like a lot of foundations have gotten more expensive over the last year or so and what can you do when it is one of the only things that will work? I save money on drugstore mascara so its worth it to me! I really like that I can throw this in my purse and easily touch up throughout the day. I am still on the lookout for a new good liquid foundation, but I have found my holy grail powder.

Favorite Lust: I need some new make up brushes, bad. I was thinking maybe these

Or perhaps these….

What are you favorite kind of brushes to get? Normally I just pick them up at TJ Max but I have a few that need replacing and it may be cheaper to do a set.

I had another post planned for today but then I remembered that it was Kristen’s link up day and how could I not link up with Kristen?! Duh!
Listening: I have been heavily relying on my rock playlist on Spotify. Some of my most favorite songs ever are on this list, songs like Far Behind from Candlebox. This is a roll your windows down on a chill day and turn it up on repeat kind of song.

Reading: The Girl from Summer Hill – It is basically retelling of Pride and Prejudice. I don’t hate it, but it isn’t mind blowing either. I am about 40% through and hoping to finish it up this weekend so I can have the review for you during the book link up next week!
The Girl from Summer Hill (Summer Hill, #1)
Watching: Life in Pieces and Good Wife. Life in Pieces cracks me up and I really like how it is four short stories in each episode. The Good Wife is wrapping up and it makes me sad to see it go. I have really enjoyed that show!
Eating: All the bad things. Oops. Yesterday I might have left after I ate my healthyish lunch to go to Walgreens down the street from my office and pick up a bag of these because it was an emergency. Whatever, my day got more tolerable because of them.
Sour Punch Bites
Wearing: All of the dresses and sandals!!! The weather has decided to stay in the 70’s and 80’s down here now so I have been wearing the crap out of all my favorite dresses from last year. Can’t stop won’t stop.
