Friday Favorites

It appears to be time for Friday Favorites already!!! My favorite thing is the fact that it is Friday. Ha! This weekend we have a tasting at a new restaurant in town. It is a different concept than anything else in the area and that makes me all kinds of excited. It is a Puerto Rican/Caribbean style restaurant that has tostones as a staple on their menu. You know I will be sharing photos!!! Other than that, I am not sure what else we have going on other than the usual cleaning and grocery shopping.

Anyone sign in to Bloglovin this morning and it look totally different? I changed mine back to list view I wasn’t expecting that!

Favorite Song: Trap Queen – I keep hearing this everywhere lately and it is so random.

Favorite Lust: So I told myself early on that I wasn’t going to need some fancy diaper bag but I changed my tune after seeing this pretty!!! I decided that regular diaper bags are anywhere from $40 to $100 depending on style. For about $60 more, you can have a beautiful designer leather bag that you can turn in to a weekend/overnight/travel/laptop bag after it’s life as a diaper bag. Sounds like the smarter investment to me! Hmmm brown or black, I can’t decide?

What I imagine when people say they're sending thoughts and prayers:

When I show up to some fancy southern bridal tea or baby tea and there are only drinks and nuts…

When I finally allow myself a coffee every now and then….

How I feel right. now.

When Chris is being all good on his low carb diet and I order a burger and fries….

I hope you all have  fabulous weekend!!! Linking up with Amanda.

about me, currently

What’s New Currently

Whenever I link up with Kristen and Gretchen I always feel weird because most people use this as a way to sum up their previous month. For me, I share most of that stuff in my Weekend Shenanigans posts and you don’t really want to see all of that again! So I like to use this post in a currently format to share what I am up to now!

Reading: I started Sunset in Central Park on Tuesday. I hope to have this done by the book link up next week!

Sunset in Central Park (From Manhattan with Love, #2)

Listening: Other than listening to Truly Madly Guilty via audio book, I have been catching up with the Pregnancy Podcast. If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, this is a great resource for you!!! Especially as a first time mom. The host basically does all the research for you on everything you want to know about pregnancy, labor and delivery, breastfeeding, different complications and procedures and everything else you can think of. She also has a podcast called 40 Weeks that goes over each week of pregnancy in five minutes or less. I can not be more grateful to have this!

Planning: Other than nursery and baby related things, I really just want to organize our whole house. Nesting has taken full swing over here. Some of our kitchen cabinets are driving me crazy and there are more clothes that I haven’t worn in years I know I can purge. I want to re-organize my make up, lotions and potions and jewelry which in my head requires a new piece of furniture for our bathroom in this awkward empty space we have. And the spare room where Mac stays when we aren’t home? Don’t even get me started  with that space! Let’s just say it has become clutter central since clearing out space for the baby!

Watching: I have seen five or six seasons of Weeds when it aired way back when. Chris had started watching some of it but I don’t think he ever got out of the first season? Either way, we started watching it Wednesday night from the beginning. Also still squeezing in some One Tree Hill.

Funny story, we watched like half the first episode of Stranger Things and I am too chicken shit for it and Chris shut it off. Scary/thriller type stuff just isn’t my jam.

Pinning: Baby stuff, duh!!! The closet below with the cube shelf along the bottom?? Freaking brilliant idea and I am totally stealing that!!! And the gold glitter dipped feathers??? Stop!

Like spindal bookshelve. Headboard also available. Could repaint to look more high-end. Reviews say heavy and sturdy for the $$.:

Excited: A new hot dog place, Hot Diggity Dog, has opened this week and I can’t wait to try it for lunch! Also, a friend of mine is getting us in to a restaurant tasting this weekend with another new place in town! I love trying out new places!

What have you been up to lately?

confessions

Confessions

It is time for those monthly confessions!!!

–Everyone around me is on some special diet or new workout program and being all beast and I am over here like oh don’t mind me waddling on my treadmill and lifting 5 lb weights. I know that I am supposed to be taking it easy and gaining weight right now being pregnant and all but let me get real with you for a second. It scares the shit out of me, I have always struggled with weight. I am trying to remain healthy most of the time and indulging here and there when I really have a strong feeling about something and not worrying about it too much but I know come January it is going to be a bitch when I am cleared to work out.

–Speaking of indulgences. I found a new addiction and I don’t care who knows it! Have you tried the Cheesecake Fiber One Bars? Cartwheel had a coupon for them at Target so I grabbed a box and OMG! They taste legit like cheesecake. If you exclude the whole processed factor, they are a little less guilt?

–It is really hard to not go baby crazy and buy all the things. I am trying to be practical and really think about each item and if we really need it or not. Or if there is an item that is more a 2-in-1 kind of deal versus separate things. For a tiny human, baby gear sure takes up a lot of space!!!

–I cant swim. Have I ever mentioned that before? My mom sent  me to swimming lessons when I was in second grade and I had a traumatizing experience and made a scene the next day so that my mom would pull me out. No one ever bothered to try again with me later and now as an adult, deep water where I can’t touch terrifies me.

–Each week while I am getting ready for work, I think ab0ut all the things I can accomplish on the weekend. Do you know how many of those things actually get done that next weekend? Usually none. Clearly we need a third day off every week. A day to get all the shit done.

recipe

Spicy Thai Noodles

One of my favorite things to take for lunches during the week is Spicy Thai Noodles. This, of course, is when I am not doing Whole 30. I love that you serve it cold, so I don’t have to heat anything up. It makes a lot to last the entire week and is super easy.

What You Need:

1 tbsp red pepper flakes

1 box of linguine noodles (I try to use whole wheat when I can find them)

1/4 cup olive oil

6 tbsp honey

6 tbsp reduced sodium soy sauce

1/4 cup crushed cashews or peanuts

green onions

sesame seeds

What You Do:

–Cook noodles according to package, drain

–Heat olive oil and red pepper flakes in a small sauce pan, strain out red pepper flakes

IMG_9380

–Whisk in honey and soy sauce and pour over drained noodles.

–Add in green onions and crushed nuts.

–Chill in refrigerator until ready to serve. I prefer to cook this a day ahead because the longer it sits, the better it gets!

weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans

Oh hey there, August!!! I didn’t even realize it was the first until I looked in the right bottom corner of my screen just now. Crazy! August is my birthday month! Yay! It’s also hopefully the last of the hottest months in the summer. Even though it wont actually get cooler until November. Whatever. I am melting down here.

Friday for lunch, Laura and I hit up Zoes. We wanted something quick and fairly healthy. And my healthy I mean I ordered a salad to balance out my pita and hummus. Their hummus is always so delicious!!!

Friday after work, I stopped by the outlets on my way home to exchange a skirt I got at Motherhood last month. I only have about 9 outfits that fit me right now and I still wasn’t grabbing for it so that should tell you something! I got a beautiful striped Jessica Simpson dress instead! I also grabbed some tanks they had for $5 and their clearance was buy one get one for $5 so I picked up two tops to wear with my jeggings. I love that everytime I buy something there I get goodies too!! The first time was a magazine. The second I got a bottle and a bunch of coupons. This time? A super pretty Jessica Simpson necklace!!!

Saturday I finished reading a book, cleaned the house, and then my dad and sister came over and got the guest bed out of our nursery. It is starting to get real over here!

Chris and I headed out later and hit up two Bargain Hunts and scored some major baby finds!!! We got the monitor we registered for over $100 off! We also scooped up a play mat, stuffed animals that sing a lullaby, a sleep halo and a swim suit top all on the cheap. Bargain Hunt is the place to go for baby stuff!

IMG_9438

After all that bargain hunting we grabbed a late lunch at J. Alexander’s. They have my absolute favorite salad!

IMG_9430

Sunday I read 60% of a book before 9am, meal planned, grocery shopped and chilled the rest of the day with Better Call Saul.

Today I am lucky enough to work from home to look after two of my nephews whose sitter is out of town. I have all the game systems charged up and ready to go for them while I knock out some work. Thanks to our extensive game collection, our house is a kids dream!

I hope you all had a great weekend! Let’s see what August will bring us!

Linking up with Biana.
