weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans

Birmingham Restaurant Week started on Friday, so Laura and I headed over to Saigon to check out their special menu. I ordered the chicken spring rolls and the Good Ga Bahn Mi. It was delicious!!!! I also got a Briney Melon because Friday. Can’t wait to see where we hit up this week!

Saturday morning I cut the side yard and had burned 557 calories while doing so. Hurrah! Most of it was probably sweat. Damn, was it hot and humid!!! My sister, BIL and the boys stopped by to hang out for a little bit so that is always fun! Chris and I then decided to head out to grab some lunch somewhere and check out Bargain Hunt. We ended up at Soho Social. We ordered the chicken tender meal and the short rib burger meal and split them, and of course we had to have sweet potato fries with gorgonzola dip! It was fun just hanging out for a little bit. Zoe really enjoyed sitting in the big girl high chair and taking in her surroundings too. After, we stopped by Hop City to pick up some fun beers for home. Zoe made out at Bargain Hunt. I got everything in the picture below for $16 and some change!!! Two shirts for the next size up, an outfit to wear now, a pool float for next summer and some baby legos. Score!!!!

I grabbed the Atalanta Plum Tart Saison by Orpheus Brewing out of Atlanta. This is one of my favorites, it is so good and different with the plum!!! If you like sour beers (but not crazy sour) give this one a try!!!!

Sunday I cut the front yard, fed Zoe lunch and then we all headed out to grab Mexican at Casa Fiesta. They have one of my most favorite Mexican dishes out of anywhere. Their flautas are seriously the bomb.com. (I am bringing it back.) We walked around Best Buy and ended up coming home with like 15 Blue Rays. Their sales get Chris every time. Lets see how many we actually watch lol. Then we did our grocery shopping for the week.

When we got home, we watched Younger and watched someone scoot themselves all over the living room and pull up on everything. Can someone please tell me why she looks 4 feet tall when standing. They grow too fast!!!!

And this picture….be still my heart….

I hope you all had a wonderful week!!! It’s my birthday week, so I plan to treat myself to some Rose and treats! Linking up with Biana.

Friday Favorites

Never ever have I felt more TGIF than I do today!!! This first week of daycare has been rough on this mama. Monday morning when I dropped Zoe off, I pretty much cried in the car on the way there, sobbed in the hallway after I dropped her off….and didn’t stop until I got to work. Zoe didn’t nap her first day, and she hasn’t really been napping well all week. She comes home exhausted and she has only been there four days and already has a super stuffy nose. Dirty daycare babies. I am thankful that her teachers love on her and have been super awesome. It has made the transition a little easier. One of them literally tells her that she loves her everyday when we leave. It is the sweetest. I also like how when we walk in the building and every single person who works there knows her name and says good morning to her.

Favorite Moments: Making the most out of every second I get to spend with my baby during the week. She has been extra snuggly in the evenings and that has been awesome. Also, can we talk about how she looks so grown up in that first picture??? Stop it!!!

Laura is the bestest friend ever, and grabbed lunch with me at Soho Social Monday. She knew I was going to have a hard day since she has already been through all of this and sacrificed herself for delicious beer, sweet potato fries and gorgonzola dip…and listening to me. Thanks Laura, you are the best!!!!!

Favorite Recipe: We are getting really close to football season!!! It is time to start pinning all the apps again. I want to find a good balance of splurge and healthier options. This avocado crack dip looks so good!

Avocado Feta Dip - Delicious addicting 'crack' dip made with feta cheese, fresh tomatoes, avocado chunks, vinaigrette, and herbs. Can't get enough of this healthy fresh blend. Perfect party appetizer.

Favorite Lust: I shared my birthday wish list with you guys earlier this week. So basically all of that!!! I need to find a bag for Zoe to take back and forth to daycare everyday. She is the only kid in her class who doesn’t have one. Basically it will just hold her bottles, food and snacks and her paci. And the teachers may throw in anything that needs to go home. Should I do a shoulder bag or backpack??? I cant decide!!!

Birthday Wish List and TBB Asks

We are already knee deep in August and you know what August is? My birthday month!!! I do like to treat myself to a few things throughout the month and create a wish list for funsies. Here are a few things I wouldn’t mind having wrapped up just for me!

This Rose Gold Gorjana Lariat necklace has been on my wish list for nearly a year. I think it would go with so many things in my closet and be such a staple piece!!! It would also layer nicely with my beloved Kendra Scott necklace I wear nearly every day!

I am also obsessed with this BaubleBar Aimee Layered chain. Since it is gold, thicker and layered…it gives a completely different look than the Gorjana one!

How cute are these mules in blush??? I am in need of some new work shoes for the fall/winter and these would be perfect!

I want to get a purse that is a little easier to tote around with baby. I love don’t need to carry as much now that she is a little older and I want something I can take to work too without having to take things in and out of her current diaper bag. I think a backpack style like this or a larger tote like maybe this would be better.

How pretty is this Skippy Dip Lip Topper by Jouer?

I am obsessed with slides and these are a classic!

This shirt looks crazy cozy for the fall weekends! I could use a pop of color in my wardrobe.

Cole Haan is the only brand of flats I have found that I can wear for more than a few hours without wanting to throw my shoes in the trash. I have a pair of black ones, and I really want to get a pair of nude to wear as well. These look perfect!

I would love a fancier band for my apple watch, this rose gold one would be perfect! Love the price too!

When Andrea emailed me about TBB link up, I knew I had to participate! These are fun questions to get to know someone better and I got right to drafting my post! But then I forgot all about it when I posted about my weekend on Monday. Better late than never, I always say!

Pool, Lake or Ocean?

My favorite place is the beach, I love to listen to the ocean crashing into the shore. But from the pool. I rarely get in the ocean. If I do, it is maybe ankle to knee deep. Never more. The pool is more my jam.

Camping, cottage or hotel?

I am so not an outdoor person. I never say never, but I seriously cant see myself ever thinking that camping sounds like a good idea. Give me all the indoor amenities and air conditioning. Please and thank you! A cottage or hotel suits me fine.

Favorite ice cream flavor?

Cookie Dough

Pj’s, Nightgown, T-Shirt/Shorts or Birthday Suit?

Usually shorts and a tshirt or short cotton nightgowns.

Fave Summer Beverage

Fruity beers and ciders or a mojito. At the beach, I do love a good pina colada! Cant believe I didn’t even have one this year.

Would you rather be hot or cold?

Cold cold cold. Please give me the cold! For someone who lives in the deep south, you would think I would be used to the heat. I hate it! You can always add layers, but you can only take so many off. I am a fall/winter girl.

Sandals with heels or flats?

These days you will find me in flats 98% of the time. I also appreciate a good wedge.

Shorts or skirts?

Neither! I were dresses in the spring and summer or pants in the winter.

Sit in the sun or the shade?

Unless it is in the upper 60’s or low 70’s, you will find me in the shade. See above. I hate sweating.

Water, tea or soda?

water

Fave summer fruit, vegetable?

Pineapple! Nothing beats a pineapple in peak season! I also love fresh ears of corn.

Sunrise or sunset?

I love both, but if I have to pick….sunset. Alabama has some of the prettiest sunsets I have ever seen.

Bike, ride or walk?

Alabama is not so not walkable. Not even our downtown area, so ride it is.

Winery or brewery?

brewery

Garden or no garden?

I do not have a green thumb, nor do I have the time.

Big summer concert or music in the park?

Music in the park, I hate crowds.

Fave cookout food?

Filet or burgers

Dine indoors or patio?

Patio, as long as it is shaded if it is too hot!

Fave summer destination?

Our annual trip to Gulf Shores

Big theme park or local carnival?

Again, I hate crowds. I don’t really care for either. Though I really really really want to go to Disney World!

Drinks blended or on the rocks?

blended

Popsicle or freezie flavour of choice

You know what I miss? Pudding pops!

Hot Dog or Hamburger?

Hamburger

Books

Another month of books have come and gone! Linking up with Jana and Steph.

The Weekenders by Mary Kay Andrews

The Weekenders

I devoured this book much quicker than I thought I would! I picked it up every chance I got. This is much longer than your normal beach read, but it didn’t lag in the least bit and I loved all the details and plot development. The beach town setting was perfect and I loved that it wasn’t always perfect through the story.

Bototm Line: This is the perfect beach read!! You get a little love, a scandal, some mystery and a storm.

Brew or Die A Java Jive Mystery by Caroline Fardig

Brew or Die: A Java Jive Mystery

I best describe this series and the leading lady as a more competent Stephanie Plum. This is the forth book and I have to say, I am still enjoying the series! I love all the characters and the shenanigans. Jules is officially a licensed PI and takes it on as a second job. This one kept me reeled in because Jules teams up with someone you would least expect to work work on a case!! The love tangle between Jules, Stafford, Pete and Ryder had me hooked the whole time but then I ended up getting pissed at the very end of the book and slapping my head. I am hoping there is another installment and Juliet finally moves on in one direction or another. I am team Ryder all the way though. As for the mystery part, I sort of had suspicions early on in both investigation she worked on, but there were a few surprises and twists thrown in.

Bottom Line: If you are looking for a cute, cozy mystery or you like the Plum series and Janet Evanovich, then give this a try!

**I received a copy of Brew or Die from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are of my own.**

The Royal We by Heather Cocks

The Royal We

When I first started seeing reviews for this book, I rolled my eyes. I could care less about the royal family. I mean, I wish I had Kate’s closet and I think she is gorgeous….but that is about where my thoughts about them end. I was sure I wouldn’t care to read this book….but then all of you…people who normally don’t even read this type of book…gave it a great review. Ok fine, I will read it!!!

Anyways, I LOVED this book!!! It is a long one, and I managed to have it finished in a week which is a pretty big deal for me right now. There is so much character development and little details in this book and I loved all the little side stories leading up to the current time. This was just a super fun read that kept me interested the whole time.

Bottom Line: Read it!! This is probably one of my favorite books so far this year. I really just enjoyed it so much.

A Man Called Ove by Frederick Backman

A Man Called Ove

At first I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book. I sort of got lost a little in some of the details of the story at the beginning. I will be vague to not give any spoilers, I then realized what was really going on with Ove and what he was tying to do. That kept me interested and then I really started to enjoy the story. I liked how the book bounced back and forth between current day, and stories from his past that shed light to lead him to who he is. I like how Ove is strict with his routines, principals and views on life. I have a feeling we are all going to be a little cranky like Ove when we are older.

Bottom Line: This was a sweet book and I really enjoyed it.

Dashing Through the Snow by Debbie Macomber

Dashing Through the Snow

I seriously don’t follow the holidays or seasons when it comes to reading. I needed a little snow in my very hot July! This was a cute love story and I enjoyed the holiday aspect of it. To be completely honest though, I never really connected with any of the characters and the story felt a little cheesy to me and very predictable.

Bottom Line: If you are looking for a light holiday read, this might fit the bill. It wasn’t my favorite though.

weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans

Today is Zoe’s first day of daycare and I am sure to be in a puddle of tears right now. We went to the open house last week and one of her teachers asked to hold her and she was hysterical when I was right there. I can’t even imagine what it is going to be like when I drop her off this morning. I will for sure be the mom ugly crying in the hallway on the way out! Ugh, I can’t think about it anymore….

This weekend was a good one! We started our Friday night out with some turkey taco sweet potato nachos. They were delicious!!! Such a good and fairly healthy way to ring in the weekend!

Saturday morning during Zoe’s nap, I cut the backyard. Then we headed out to do a little shopping. We scored some major sales for Zoe at Nordstrom Rack and Bargain Hunt. Gotta start putting together her fall wardrobe for the next size up. Fun fact, Zoe loves looking through her new clothes when we get home. Just the way my mom and I always have a “day in review” after we go shopping. She even modeled a headband in her best pose.

We grabbed a late lunch at the Tavern, where Zoe sat in a high chair like a big girl and had so much fun. She might have stared at our crab dip and my burger while she had her bottle. I think she wants the rest of her teeth to hurry on up!

There was a family that walked past our table on the way out. An older man was at behind them all and he looked down at Zoe and smiled and said, “You know, she was that small just yesterday….” Speaking of his daughter who was in front of him and probably my age. Funny how fast they grow, huh?

Saturday night we played many rounds of Zoe’s favorite new game. Peekaboo! She is obsessed! She even grabs the curtains behind her bouncer to hide behind now. It is the cutest thing ever.

Sunday morning I cleaned up around the house some, meal planned and grocery shopped. We picked up some Olive Garden to go for lunch. They were out of cheese ravioli, so I decided to try the three cheese stuffed shells. O.M.G. SO GOOD! I cant remember the last time I had stuffed shells, probably when I lived with my parents! My mom used to make them all the time.

I pretty much snacked off my plate the rest of the day while we caught up to the current season of Ballers. We also tried Goliath and worked through a few episodes of it. It really hooked us in!

Will Billy Bob Thornton ever be anyone other than Bad Santa? I think not. It’s a good show, check it out if you are looking for something to binge.

Sunday evening I started getting together everything that I need to send Zoe to daycare with and started reading Roanoke Girls. Can’t believe the book link up is tomorrow!!!

One more picture because everyone deserves to ride into Monday on a unicorn. She has the princess wave down.

Linking up with Biana. I hope you all have a fabulous week. If you are looking for me, you can probably find me under my desk crying and staring at the daycare cameras on my phone.
