Friday Favorites

Hey there, Friday Favorites! The weather is supposed to finally be cooler today! 70’s during the day and 40’s this evening! I cant wait to feel something less than 70 degrees! It is going to be amazing! This weekend we have Alabama vs Texas A&M and some baby shopping to get done. I also have some other things I need to work on, plus the never ending purging and organizing that I feel I must do! You would think I would run out of things to toss or organize, but nope! What do you have on the agenda?

Favorite Moments:

–Hearing baby girl’s heart beat on Tuesday at my appointment. Starting November 1st, I will be going every week to get checked!!! We are in the final stretch!

–Snacking on all the leftovers from my shower. I sort of wish my SIL wouldn’t have left me with all these cupcakes because I have been having one for breakfast basically every morning. And one after dinner every night. And all of the chips and smiley cookies for lunch! Whole 30 is going to be so rough in January. Woof.

–This guy. He is such a little ham.

Favorite Recipe: I made sweet potato chip nachos when I was on Whole30 and loved them. I found this Sweet Potato Irish Nacho recipe from Skinnytaste and cant wait to try it!

A healthier twist on an Irish pub favorite – dangerously good!!:

Favorite Purchase: I am slowly starting to get my ducks in a row for when baby comes. I want to get a robe and pajamas for my hospital stay, get my hospital bag packed, etc. One of the things I know I will be needing while there and the weeks at home after is dry shampoo!!! I used to be a huge fan of Batiste until I tried Living Proof. There is nothing that compares to the amazing job that Living Proof does! Plus, I feel better using it with less chemicals and literally no white powdery residue left behind. This stuff is a miracle and I bought a full size can after having the travel size for a few months. Worth the extra money, I promise!!

I have also been wanting to try Fresh Sugar Lip stuff forever and ever and ever. I couldn’t decide on a color to get, so I picked up the three pack mini that they have for Christmas. This has Honey, Tulip and Berry in it. I absolutely love all three colors, but the jury is still out for me on if it was worth the money. The color lasts awhile and it feels amazing when I first put it on….but then about two hours later my lips are super dry. As in dryer than before I put anything on. Everyone acts like this stuff is some kind of unicorn dust sent from heaven. Tell me if I am missing something.

Favorite Lust:

I keep checking out this necklace from Nordstrom to see if it is on sell because how perfect would it be for every outfit???

Also, these earrings are gorgeous. My mom bought me pearl earrings and a necklace several years ago. I still have the necklace, but one of the earrings broke and I have really been wanting to replace them. Such a classic.

Favorite Links:

–Putting these 12 health bargain foods on my list for the next time I am at Trader Joes.

–I have been wanting to get a highlighter to try out. Khloe Kardashian swears by this $6 one. That is totally in my budget!

Favorite Funnies:

Some days I really miss DDP!!!

Nourishing Meals- Whole Food Allergy Free Recipes

I am a huge fan of Whole 30, clean eating and nourishing foods. I completed my first Whole 30 challenge back in January of this year. After those 30 days, I felt amazing! I continued to eat *mostly* clean until I got pregnant and the sugar and carb cravings kicked  in. My hope is that on January 1, 2017 (give or take a month after baby girl is due) I go back to Whole 30. That is where Nourishing Meals will come in handy!

All 365 recipes in the book are free of the most common allergens: gluten, soy, eggs, and dairy, and refined sugar. There are options for vegans, vegetarians and meat lovers alike. And what I really appreciate is that there are steps on how to start including these foods in your diet and even information from pre-conception and pregnancy through each year of a child’s life!!! You really get a ton of information in this book, so it is more about a healthy family and lifestyle than just a cookbook.

The only negative thing I have to say about it is that I want more pictures!!! My favorite cookbooks are the ones that have a picture with every recipe, this one does not. But there is so much more that you get that just recipes, so I understand why it is set up the way that it is. And there are some pictures throughout the book to keep me excited.

A few of the recipes I am excited about:

Grain Free Chicken Nuggets

Slow-Cooked Beef Stew

Greek Salad with Chick Peas

Cranberry Orange Bread

Overnight Oatmeal Cinnamon Muffins

Roasted Squash and Corn Frittata

Frozen Banana Coconut Cream Pie

If you are just starting on a journey to a healthier lifestyle, or you are stuck in a rut on your current journey…I suggest picking up Nourishing Meals! With 365 recipes, you can try something new every day!

about me

Seeking Peace

When I think of the word peace, I automatically picture myself sitting on the beach in the early morning as the sun is rising and no one is around. The waves are crashing in to the shore, you can hear the birds above out in search for their breakfast. Sitting next to the ocean just brings this inner peace like nothing else.

I also like to think about all the other every day comforts that bring peace to my life.

Peace is….

The sounds and smells of a fire place crackling on a crisp winter night.

Listening to the rain fall from under your blankets.

Doggie snuggles after a long day.

A day of shopping with my mom or a phone conversation with my sister.

Lunch with your bestie on a Wednesday.

Looking at the stars on a clear night.

Freshly cleaned sheets.

A candle burning.

A hot bath filled with eucalyptus scented salts.

A familiar old song on a bad day.

The sound of falling snow.

The first morning you step out and smell fall in the air.

The warmth of a cozy blanket.

A cup of hot chocolate.

A hug from the person you love most in the world.

What does peace look like for you?

Sh!t Chris Says

Sh!t Chris Says

I think we are all ready for another edition of Sh!t Chris Says!!! I told him that if he ever wants to take over my blog for a day and share some of the shit I say, he is more than welcome to. I don’t know if this is a good thing or bad thing. Or if he will ever do it. But I put it out there. You guys read what I have to say all the time, but he may have a different spin on things. Who knows.

sht-chris-says

–We are watching an episode of One Tree Hill where the power goes out and Brooke is frantically looking for a flashlight.

Chris: “Don’t worry, they fix this problem in the future and come out with the iPhone.”

–Chris says something and I didn’t hear him. He then says very seriously, and loudly “I am wearing a Mac hat!!!” I look over and Mac is sitting above his head on the pillow. These two…never a dull moment.

I title this photo “Mac Hat”

–When I got home from work one evening, a package had arrived with a few dresses I ordered to try on for my baby shower. I went back to the bathroom and put one on and came out to the living room and asked Chris what he thought about it and if it would be ok for my shower.

Chris: “It looks good, I like it. But why did you put a dress on to cook dinner?”

I glared at him and he starts laughing. Let me get right on that….

–We are watching the debate in the living room and I have been having to sit in the recliner lately for my back instead of sharing the couch with Chris. Chris starts laughing at a picture on his phone and he starts to make like he is going to get up and show me and then says..

“I am just going to send you the picture.”

A minute later I get a text on my phone. From Chris on the couch. Five feet away from me.

–We are watching Grey’s Anatomy and there is a baby on.

Me: We are going to have a little nugget soon!!!

Chris: Yeah, after we go on Maury.

Me: ???

Chris: We don’t know that it’s mine.

weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans – The Baby Shower

Wow, Monday sure does roll around mighty quick! This weekend was jam packed with nesting, purging, cleaning, family time and baby fun! I walked in the nursery this morning and looked at the stacks of baby stuff that we now have everywhere just to make sure this weekend wasn’t just a dream.

Since I was working from home on Friday, I stayed up a little later on Thursday evening to start purging some things and then instead of having to get ready and drive to work Friday morning, I purged some more and cleaned instead! I got rid of TONS of clothes. I would say probably 40 pieces? I also went through the ridiculous amount of cookbooks I have and got rid of a huge stack of the ones I never touch. Then I was super productive with work since I didn’t have to listen to people in cubes around me. This guy was a great assistant.

A tisket, a tasket, a Mac in a basket! He randomly crawls in there from time time. So sweet.

I read an entire book between Friday night and Saturday morning, and then Chris and I headed to the store to get our grocery shopping knocked out. We came back and watched the Alabama vs Tennessee game (ROLL TIDE!!!) until it was time for me to head out to meet up with my mom and sister for dinner. To my surprise, my godmother (my mom’s best friend) flew all the way down here from Pennsylvania for my shower this weekend and surprised me at dinner Saturday night! After dinner, we shopped around Trussville just to get some extra time together. What an awesome surprise!!!

saturday-night

Sunday was baby shower day!!!! My sister and sister-in-law hosted the shower at my SIL’s house. They did such an amazing job on the decorations and all the food!!! Most of the decor was multi-purposed items for the nursery that I will get to see daily and a great reminder of this special day. My sister made ham salad sandwiches (my favorite) and my godmother had shipped down my favorite chips that you can only find up north AND smiley cookies from Eat n Park!!!! (A staple in the area I am from.) Not to mention the beautiful gold foil sprinkled cupcakes and all the other amazing food they had spread out.

My sister-in-law made the ribbon banner that I am going to hang above the crib!!! She also had white and pink painted pumpkins all over and they were so sweet.

I am so blessed with amazing family and friends that are already so in love with Baby because they sure did spoil us with a lot of stuff!!! Baby girl will not be without blankets, towels, essentials and LOTS of clothes. I had such a great time just getting to hang out with everyone.

My sister made this ribbon holder, height ruler and this cute little elephant print with the guests names.

Again, words can’t express how thankful and blessed I feel to be surrounded with such amazing people. I had a wonderful time at my shower, and I hope everyone else did too.

My sister, mom and Casi came back to my house after the shower to help unload all the goodies. My sister hung around and was the one who hung up all her clothes and filled the laundry basket with all the towels and blankets I need to wash. It was fun sitting in there and going through everything again.

And just like that, the weekend was over and I was exhausted! Chris and I settled in for some Chicago PD and Grey’s Anatomy before passing out on the couch. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!!!
