Southern Women’s Show and Hot Fire Fighters Fighting Cancer

Last night, Laura and I were invited to a sneak peak of the Southern’s Women Show. It was such a fun night walking around and getting to see the vendors set up for the weekend. We got to have a private cooking demonstration with Bob Syke’s BBQ and tasted the Ham & Swiss Sliders. They even gave us all the recipe, a swag cup and a bottle of their BBQ sauce!!!

We then headed over to meet the beef jerky man who kindly let us sample a few flavors of his delicious jerky. It was so good!!!

Several vendors are there giving away prizes and doing demonstrations. The Red Cross is even having a blood drive!

If you test drive a car, you can take home a $10 Starbucks or Amazon gift card. Um, yes please!!! And America’s First will be giving away $20 every 20 minutes so be sure to stop by their booth.

And ladies, let’s not forget the Firefighter Fashion Show!!! Laura and I got to go last year and woooo! Hot, local fireman strutting their stuff in the newest fall fashions all the while collecting money for the American Cancer Society. This year they are even selling calenders!!! We got to meet with a few of the guys who will be in the show and they were showing us the calender and well. I mean…for charity, right!?!?! If you can’t make it to the show you can order one online here! These are the guys who will be featured…

We saw so many boutiques setting up shop. There are a million cute clothing options and tons of cute game day wear to be had!!!

There is even a clothing truck! (sort of like a food truck)

I am adding a trip to Unclaimed Baggage to my Alabama bucket list after hearing them talk about all the cool things that are in their HUGE store. These ladies were so sweet and funny and they even have girl trip packages giving you the VIP treatment if you call ahead and schedule a trip for you and your girlfriends. How awesome is that? They are giving away a Tory Burch purse, Tory Burch sunglasses and several other items too!

And who doesn’t like swag???

2016- My Year (so far) In Five Pictures

I really liked the prompt for Blogtember today; the top five pictures that illustrate your year so far. I am going to go ahead and say that 2016 might be our biggest, most exciting year yet!!! And that says a lot because 2012 was pretty big too. In 2012 Chris and I both bought new cars, bought a new house, got married and both changed jobs all within the last six months of the year! But 2016? Well, can anything beat this?

We found out that we were going to become a family of three on Tuesday, March 22!!!

We had a wonderful time at the beach over the 4th.

I got a new car this summer!

We found out that we are having a girl!!

I had to say goodbye to a best friend. RIP Gracie.

The Curated Closet

Let’s start with saying that The Curated Closet is a pretty book! I chose it because I am trying to be more intentional with only choosing pieces that I love and that work with other items in my closet. I want to be able to chose any random item in my closet and it be a piece that I love. I am looking for more high quality pieces that will last many wears, over trendy pieces that will only take me through one season. This book walks you through how to chose your style based on your lifestyle and tastes. There are even color palettes to help you mix and match if that isn’t your thing.

A curated closet is different than a capsule wardrobe. There is a chapter on capsule wardrobes if that is your jam. For me, I just don’t think I can do it, but I do find it fascinating! A curated closet is simply a closet full of clothes that are tailored for your style and life.

I felt like the author was speaking to me specifically in several parts of the book. I used to have the more is more approach when it came to clothes and basically ended up only wearing about 20% of the items that I had. There is an exercise in this book where you take pictures of your outfits for two weeks and break down things like what color did you wear most, what was your favorite and least favorite, is there a fit you wear most often, do you want your clothes to be noticed, etc. It really makes you think more intentionally about the pieces that you chose and what your true style is.

This book covers finding your own personal style, how to detox your closet, how to build your wardrobe based on what type of clothes you need for your lifestyle, outfit formulas, how to shop and make the most of your budget, and how to chose items with the correct fit and quality.

My favorite section covered how to create a mood board and what to do with the mood board. I always see outfits on pinterest and blogs that I love but I never really thought what specifically about these looks that I like. If you look at my board as a whole, I start to see themes with either color palettes or the fit of something. I realized that I should be writing a list down of items that I want to try on and see how they work for me.

One thing I wish this book did offer was maybe more pictures. Though, I can understand why that would have been hard to do. I think this book would be a great addition for the fashionista in your life….or the person who could use some help in the wardrobe department! It certainly has given me great advice for how to get my wardrobe perfect after baby!

Weekend Shenanigans – The One Where I Stayed Out Late

You guys!!! I checked the weather this morning and I am really really hoping that it is true!!! They say it will drop in to the 70’s a few days this week. The 70’s!! After about three months straight of nothing but 90’s + I think I am going to have to pull out a jacket or something!

This weekend I….

–Ran through the Jimmy Johns drive thru on Friday at lunch and then walked around Babies R Us because that is my life right now. I loved every second of it. My order is always the #12 Beach Club with no tomato or mayo, add mustard and a side of salt & vinegar chips. I never stray. This sandwich has avocado on it…why would I order anything else???

–Friday night, Chris and I stopped by his parents house for a few minutes then decided to have an impromptu date night at Crazy Horse in Argo on the way home. Crazy Horse is legit one of my favorite restaurants and it is so close to us! I wasn’t wanting a huge steak or anything that late, so I ordered the Crazy Fries and O.M.G. just look at these things…

They were having a special dinner that evening with The Chateau, a 16 ounce filet. Chris couldn’t resist. That thing looked so amazing and if he wouldn’t have ordered it rare…I might have stolen a few bites. No rare meat when you have a baby on board! I have never seen such a big filet before! Chris ended up bringing like half of it home.

We stayed out late guys!!! We didn’t leave Crazy Horse until 11:30pm!!! Crazy talk for this old lady these days, let me tell you! We have become chatty with the owner and some of the staff there though and we were watching football and having a good chat so it didn’t seem as late as it really was. When we got home, I ended up staying up and watching a few episodes of House Hunters and didn’t go to bed until 1:30am. Don’t worry, I was still up bright and early a few hours later. Baby girl never lets me sleep in.

–We stayed in Saturday and watched football alllll day long! I was super pleased with the Alabama game. Ashamed of how Georgia played Ole Miss and holy cow did you see the end of the Auburn game?!?!? Them and their one second man. I could hear my Auburn friends screaming all the way over here. I had gone to Publix that morning to pick up food for the day and when I was walking to the register, there was a sweet old lady handing out ice cream samples. She saw me and my pregnant self waddling towards her and stopped me with a cup of it and I just had to get it. It was so good! Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream!!!! I know it sounds weird, but trusssst me. SO GOOD!

–This weekend we got a lot of stuff done. I put the stroller and car seat together, cleaned out the cabinets and drawers in the master bathroom and got rid of a good deal of things. Moved all the towels from the hall linen closet to the master bathroom to make room for baby items! Discarded six more items out of my closet, read through five magazines, and cleaned up random areas of the house. We also went to Home Depot, Best Buy and the grocery store yesterday. I got the glitter Kate Spade case for my new Iphone and I am obsessed. The glitter moves around!!!!!!!!!

–We finished watching all of One Tree Hill, started This Is Us (love) and watched all our shows that came back last week. And it basically looked like this…

Formula X – The System Xcel

Have you heard or tried the Formula X polishes? I have seen them around before and have always been intrigued but never actually picked one up. Formula X has released a new system that is supposed to create a gel like manicure that lasts at least 10 days with no chipping. Ummm 10 days? Sign me up! I am lucky if I get through one day without chipping any other polish I have ever tried!!!

Enter The System Xcel. Now, systems sometimes annoy me because there are always several steps and I start to get impatient. But you know what, if it works I am totally fine with the time…you know? This system has four steps to it.

Cleanse
Prime
Paint
Shine

Simple enough, right? What is even better? When you purchase the set you get to chose the exact color you want!!! There are so many to chose from!!! The idea is that the system should extend the wear of any Formula X nail polish for up to 10 days of flawless color.

I received the color TGIF which is a gorgeous coral pink color. Perfect for spring and summer! I went through the entire system, doing two coats of color to ensure there were no streaks. I actually really liked the formula of the color and would certainly purchase more! I liked how easy it went on and you can tell it is a higher quality. As far as how long this lasted for me? Well, I was going on about a week before I painted a room and got paint on my nails. Whomp whomp. I had to take it all off after that, but it was looking good until that point! It definitely lasted longer than any other polish/system I have tried. I will say that! Plus you are getting four products at the price point, so I think that is a good value.

Side Note: Did you know that Formula X polishes are 3 free? I very much care about that right now being pregnant and feel better knowing I am not putting all those chemicals on my nails!!! They are also cruelty-free.

I also received the Delete All – 5 Finger Nail Polish Remover. This was very intriguing to me because I hate to remove polish and with this? You literally just stick your fingers in to it and its magic and the polish comes right off! I hated messing with the pads and the remover and spilling things and cotton pieces getting torn and stuck to me and ugh what a mess! This makes things so much better!!!

Have you tried this system or Formula X? I would recommend them if you are looking for a higher end option that is 3-free, cruelty free and works.
