baby

Four Months

Four Months. Somehow, four months have gone by since the day that we finally got to meet you. Words cannot begin to describe my feelings for you. I am truly blessed that I was chosen to be your mother. I know that your daddy feels the same way. I have so much fun watching the two of you together. Your personality has always shown, but I think it comes out stronger more and more now. You are such a happy baby!!!

Nicknames: Little Z, Zoe Bear, Z, Cheeks, Kiddo

Loves: Smiling, chewing/sucking on hands and fingers, grabbing your feet, reading A Great Day For Up and The Going to Bed Book, playing with blocks, laying on your activity mat, and finally tummy time!! Now that you have mastered rolling over from back to belly, you have been doing tummy time all on your own. You are just the cutest laying there on your belly looking around. You have even been rolling onto your belly for some of your naps.

Hates: Naps. Sometimes you take one just fine, but more often than not you are fighting them! I am not sure if you have FOMO or what. I always ask you if mommy can have your naps instead!

Milestones: You have truly mastered grabbing things with your hands, it is much more controlled. You are rolling over multiple times per day from back to stomach, and every now and then you will do a full roll from stomach to back again. You have started trying to stand on our lap when we hold you on our shoulder. And you also have started sitting up when we are holding you in our laps. During your tummy time, you try so hard to crawl!!! You start getting frustrated because I can tell that you want to move, you just cant figure out how yet.

Clothing: Two weeks ago I moved you up to size 2 diapers, and we have started pulling out your 6 month clothes! I think you have really hit a growth spurt and I am anxious to see what you weight and your height at your wellness check up next week!

Feeding: You take 4-6 ounces every 2-3 awake hours. You have been an awesome night sleeper!!! You usually go down for bed between 7-8 pm and wake up between 5-6 am.

Looks: Your eyes have stayed the same light blue this past month, and your hair has gotten even lighter.

Things I want to remember from this month…

–How you whine yourself to sleep when you are fighting it.

–On March 19th you started to discover your toes while sitting in your chair and you kept grabbing them and looking at them.

–How you love to look around and people watch when we are out.

–Your pterodactyl noises.

–When you’re tired and taking a bottle, you rub one of your hands up and down the bottle and the other hand holds one of my fingers.

–One day you started screaming from your crib and I came and picked you up and all you wanted was to sleep on my chest. It was the sweetest thing ever and you laid there fast asleep on me for over two hours. I cherished every single second of it.

–The way you love to cross your legs at your ankles. I find you sitting like this all the time now! You even do it during diaper changes.

–I took you to lunch at Saw’s with my coworkers one Friday and you were seriously the best. You let several people hold you without making a fuss and you were the perfect angel the entire time we were out. Everyone couldn’t get over how good you were. You have such a chill/go with the flow personality. I like to think you get that from me 🙂

Weekend Shenanigans

Rain, rain go away. Come again another day! Preferably one when I don’t have to drive downtown! I am just glad the threat for severe weather for our area went away for now. It is supposed to come back on Wednesday though. Woof. I HATE living in the south in the spring. Tornado warnings are scary! Anyways, enough talk about that. Let’s get to the weekend!

On Friday, Chris had a car delivered from Atlanta! He met them  in the parking lot of my office, so I got to see it when Zoe and I came downtown to meet my co-workers for lunch. His new ride is pretty sweet! It’s an Infiniti QX70.

Zoe and I had come to have lunch with my co-workers because one of them is leaving us 🙁 I hate that. He was the one that brought his lunch to work too and ate with me pretty much every day. We had to send him off with BBQ from Saw’s!!! Which, if you read Southern Living Magazine, is the best BBQ in Alabama. Yum!

Friday evening, my sister stopped by to bring Zoe her Easter present. She sure did get spoiled, look at all this stuff she got!

Included in all that were Zoe’s first set of blocks. She loves them! It is the coolest watching her discover and play with different things.

Saturday morning during Zoe’s nap, I went outside and cut the grass. I got about 60% of it done then. Man, it is so weird but I missed doing it last year when I was pregnant. I am not as in bad of shape as I thought I was, because I wasn’t really struggling much. Just with my allergies. Stupid pollen.

Saturday afternoon, we took Chris’s car downtown and he showed me where his new office is. He started a new job two weeks ago, and I am so happy for him. He is loving it and seems so much happier. I am so proud of him for the position that he has now with an amazing company. He has worked so hard to get where he is, and he truly deserves it. I know great things are in his future! He is truly amazing at what he does.

While we were downtown, we grabbed a late lunch at Skycastle. We both enjoyed a local beer too. Mmmmm.

Sunday, Chris came out dressed and ready to go on a mission when Zoe and I were playing in her room. When the Nintendo Switch came out, we had one preordered. We decided there were no decent games being released for it so we canceled it. Now that you cant really find them easily, it made us want one more. Haha. Go figure right? Chris had heard that Walmart had gotten a shipment in Saturday night, so we high tailed it over there before grocery shopping. We found it! I swear we just like the thrill of the hunt more than anything. We still dont have any games for it.

During Zoe’s afternoon nap on Sunday, I finished cutting the grass and vacuumed out my car. Talk about getting shit done! I then came back in and had a little playtime with her when she woke from her nap. I seriously cant get over how stinking adorable she is. Just full of personality too!!!! Thanks Laura for the super cute elephant romper! Zoe looks adorable in it!

And look at her “supermanning” in her crib.  I swear this child is going to be on the move sooner than later. And probably building some ab muscles in the process.

I hope you had a fabulous weekend!!!! If you live in the path of all this rain and storms, stay safe and dry my friends. Have a great week!

Baby Must Haves – Birth to 3 Months

Baby must haves vary from mom to mom. There is a lot of baby gear out there you guys. A lot. It is so overwhelming when you walk in to Babies R Us or Buy Buy Baby for the first time. Not to mention the pumped in to the air system baby powder scent that assaults your nose and hurts your ovaries the moment you walk in the door. Am I right??? I swear if I hadn’t have already gotten pregnant when we went to Buy Buy Baby, that scent would make me want to hold a newborn stat! There are also a million blog posts out there of the must have baby essentials. What I have learned? Every baby is different, obviously. So what might be a must have for one mom could be a joke for another. I wanted to share with you what got us through the first three months with Zoe, and why it worked. So here we go!!!

Sleep – When you first come home with baby, you can pretty much kiss your sleep goodbye for the first several weeks. I don’t know a single mom who came home with a baby that slept through the night. What did finally help? The Rock n Play. The Rock n Play is the most amazing thing ever invented if you have a baby with acid reflux who cant lay flat to sleep. Other advantages? It can go anywhere. Your living room, bedroom, grandma’s house. Genius! If I could only have one baby item, the Rock n Play is it.

Feeding – If you aren’t exclusively breast feeding, you need bottles. Dr Brown’s worked best for us. I have tried four other kinds and none of them beat Dr Browns. All the others gave Zoe more gas, there were lots of bubbles and air when she took them, etc. I know that Dr Browns has about a million parts to clean, but it is worth it. Hands down.

Other items pictured: Boon Grass, Boon Flower, Boon Twig

Play – There are so many baby toys out there and most of them entertain the kid for about five minutes and then they are done. The ones that Zoe keeps picking up or wanting to look at each and every day? O-Ball, My Pal Violet from Leap Frog, Minnie Mouse and her The Very Hungry Caterpillar soft book.

Another amazing thing to have, a play mat like this one! Zoe can lay there for a long time just staring up at the birds spinning or trying to grab at the lower hanging toys. Most recently she has been rolling over and using the mat for tummy time too. This is another item you can find on sale often at  Target.

Bath – I have one of those tubs with the sling that I used for the first month. But honestly, it was such a hassle and Zoe hated every minute of it. I then discovered this bath seat and it is genius! Zoe loves it because she is more submerged in the water. (The sling left her freezing.) She can spread out a little and it is easier to clean her because I am not having to move her around on a sling. This thing is on sale at Target quite often for around $15 and that is when I grabbed it.

Other items pictured: Shea Moisture Shampoo/Bath, Honest Lotion, Rubber Ducky was a gift but um they are everywhere!

Travel – Obviously, you can’t leave the hospital without the nurse seeing that you have a car seat. After a ton of research, we decided on the Britax B-Safe 35 travel system. I chose this because it is near the top of every safety review I read. Safety was an absolute first priority for me. I also asked several mom friends and the ones who raved most about their travel system were the moms who had the Britax. What I like now that I have been using it? It is fairly simple to strap Zoe in. It is a breeze to click in and out of her base, and I can literally open or close her stroller with one hand. All the grandparents cant get over how much easier strollers are these days.

Also, there are several moms that have horror stories about how their babies hate being in their car seats and fuss the entire time. Zoe does none of that, she loves her car seat. She falls asleep in it easily and is happily amused when we are out just looking around from the safety of her seat. The only negative? On hot days, she is sweaty when I pull her out of it. But I am pretty sure that is the case with most car seats, no? Zoe doesn’t seem to mind.

Obviously from my pictures I share, you can tell we have a lot more things. These are just the things we had to have to get us by easily. Or as easily as one can get by with a newborn. Am I right? If you want to see what all we registered for, you can read my post on that from my Mommy Babbles blog that I sort of quit posting on here. We pretty much either received or purchased everything on the list except the bouncer. My SIL let us borrow the one she had for our nephew.  And if you want to see Zoe’s nursery reveal to spy some other items you can see that here.

So what items do you recommend for the next few months?

Add These to Your List!

Linking up with Lauren and Bre again to talk about some more things I think you should check out! I have had so much fun saving things for this link up every month, and seeing what everyone else is loving. I still keep my book reccomendations for the Show Us Your Books link up though, so you wont see any of that here.

Food:

Have you tried the Chobani Flips? I have gushed about the Key Lime Crumbles one for at least a year or two now. But Target started carrying a ton  more flavors. My new favorites are Smores and Coffee Brownie Bliss!!! SO GOOD!

Beauty:

This Revlon Juice Peach Kiss Balm is so fun. First of all, it is under $5. It smells amazing!!!!!! And it gives the slightest sheer color and makes my lips feel super soft. It doesn’t last all day or anything, but I wasn’t expecting it to. If I am wearing this and my Too Faced Peach palette shadows, I smell peaches all day and I love it.

This coconut oil OGX shower gel smells sooooooo good and has me dreaming of the beach! I don’t like to pay a lot of shower gels, so I grab fun stuff I see at Target. I am still loving my Soap and Glory one I shared last month too. I just like to switch it up with a few options because I get bored.

TV:

Have you heard of Riverdale? It is based on the characters from the Archie comics. I never really read the comics growing up, but I knew the characters names and stuff. The first episode or two I was like ehhhh I dont know. But now? I am hooked. It freaking sucks you right on in to their messed up world.

Also, Season 3 of Grace and Frankie is here!!!! YAY!!!! I love this show. And this picture pretty much sums up the season so far…

App:

Think Dirty is an app where you can scan beauty and body products in your home and see how natural or harmful they are to you. Which is what led me to pull the trigger on the baby items below. I have been scanning allllll the things in our house and when I am out at the store. It’s not 100% because some products (like the Aveeno baby lotion) weren’t on it. But when something isn’t on there, you can take a picture of the front and back of the item and get them to add it.

Baby:

–I know that Johnson and Johnson isn’t known for the best ingredients in their products. My mom used that stuff on Tracy and I growing up and we turned out ok. And the smell!! Straight up baby. It’s what the hospital used on Zoe when she was there, and what I had on hand when I brought her home. Truth is? Zoe’s skin is still pretty dry. It’s so soft, but I have to lotion her up quite often. I picked up Shea Moisture Honey Lavender Soothing Shampoo/Body Wash and Honest Lavender Face and Body Lotion this past week and YES!!!! I can actually see a difference already. And she still smells amazing and scrumptious, as babies do. I feel so much better using these products on her instead.

Think Dirty says Johnson and Johnson is a 9 (10 is the worst) and this particular Shea Moisture and Honest product are both a 3.

So have you tried any of this? What do you suggest I add to my list?

weekend shenanigans

Weekending

Another weekend come and gone! This weekend we got a lot of adulting things done. It started off Friday night with the delivery of our king size bed! Hallelujah! There is a HUGE difference between a queen and a king and there is no going back now. Not ever. We were a little nervous that it was going to make our room feel smaller, but honestly, it opened it up even more! Before we had a bulky headboard/footboard on our queen and we actually gained a lot of space in our room! We still need to get a headboard, but I want something simple and fabric that will hardly take any space at all.

Saturday we walked around Bargain Hunt. We found a filing cabinet for all of our papers that are sitting around everywhere so we “wont lose them.” Now they have a home! Yay! I also found a flamingo print romper for Zoe to add to her Easter basket. Then we were off to TJ Maxx for a mattress cover, new towels and a new floor mat for our bathroom. Do we know how to have fun or what? We found all of it. Success! Zoe was so excited…

We ordered BBQ and took it home to meet up with Chris’s parents.

Sunday, Zoe and I got out and did our grocery shopping early to avoid the rain that was supposed to come around noon. Spoiler alert, it never rained a drop yesterday! We also went to Sephora so I could pick up the Murad Acne Time Released Cleanser I wanted to try. My favorite LBB. (Little Black Bag)

Dave Chappelle is back! Have you watched his new stuff that is up on Netflix? Some of it was epic, some was just meh. Overall, we enjoyed watching both. I missed this man!

The rest of the weekend looked a lot like this…

When your own eyes are looking back at you…insert all the heart eyed emojis…

Saturday night, I think Zoe’s tummy was hurting. She was napping in her crib and she started crying. I went in there and she was reaching her arms up at me so I picked her up and she immediately fell back asleep on my shoulder. For nearly three hours!!! Oh, how I cherished the Zoe snuggles…

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Linking up with Biana.
