Last Weekend of Summer Shenanigans

I know that the weather will remain in the 80’s here until about November, but I see Labor Day weekend as the end of summer. I welcome fall with open arms. Bring on the football, cooler temps, pretty leaves and fall clothing. I celebrated this morning with my first PSL of the season!

This weekend, we didn’t do too much. We are all still recovering from being sick. And if I recall back to Friday night, I am pretty sure Chris worked for like five hours while I watched Young and Hungry. Do you watch that show? So cute.

Anyways, Saturday was the start of college football!!! We hung around the house all day and watched games, cleaning while Zoe napped. There is something refreshing about a bathroom deep clean, no? I steamed the floors and bleached the shit out of every inch of surface in there. Everything is so sparkly and clean! We had both TVs in the living room going with different games. I was a little nervous that Alabama started the season with such a tough first game….but we pulled out a big W!!! I kept the football snacks healthy, we enjoyed some sweet potato nachos. Chris had the Hues lights set on red all evening, hence the weird colored pictures.

We managed to have breakfast all weekend, which was delicious. Zoe and I headed out to do our grocery shopping after her morning nap while Chris cut the backyard.

On Labor Day, Chris had to go to work for a little while. Zoe and I headed over to my sister’s house for lunch and got to hang out with her family and my mom for awhile.

I made Italian sausage stuffed zucchini boats for dinner last night which turned out pretty good!

And that is pretty much our weekend! We did start Catastrophe on Sunday. So far, we like it. It is something different. Have you seen it? I am so ready for the fall shows to start back up! I hope you all had a great weekend! Linking up with Biana.

about me

School Is For Fools

Linking up with TBB for TBB Asks again. The end of summer is here. September is all about school. It has been a long time since I got to do any back to school shopping. While I was a ball of nerves the first day, I loved the actual prep for it.

Image result for school is for fools meme

1.Did you love school or hate it?

Even though I did very well throughout school, I wasn’t a big fan. Kids are assholes.

2. Start school before or after Labor Day?

When I was in elementary school in Pennsylvania, it was always after Labor Day. By the time we lived in Georgia when I was in high school, we were starting around my birthday in mid-August.

3.Wake up: Eager Beaver or Slow Poke?

I definitely remember hitting the snooze button many times or telling my mom to go away.

4. Favorite Breakfast?

I loved French Toast but mostly ate cereal because it was quick.

5. Favorite Cereal?

Crispex

6.School uniform or no school uniform?

no

7.New outfit for the first day of school or no?

Always yes! I loved picking out my school supplies and clothes for the school year. My mom always took us shopping. Choosing your first day outfit was the most  important thing, was it not? It set your tone for the rest of the school year!

8. Walk to school or ride the bus?

I rode the bus every year until I could drive my junior year.

9. Backpack, tote or messenger bag?

Most years it was a Jansport backpack. I tried to make a messenger bag a thing for awhile, but always ended up back with a backpack.

10. Eat school lunch or pack lunch?

98% of the time I brought my lunch. Every once in awhile I would buy, but hardly ever.

11. Remember the little milk cartons? White or chocolate?

Since I packed my lunch, I didn’t really get the milk cartons at school. If I did, it was always chocolate. I wasn’t a big milk drinker. I preferred water bottles, juice boxes or capri suns.

12.Paper bag or lunch box?

Both. When I was younger it was a lunch box, when I got to high school it was mostly paper bag.

13. Favorite thing to do at recess?

Hmmm I don’t remember much about recess. Maybe swing?

14. Favorite back to school supply item?

Writing utensils! I loved picking my pens and pencils out.

15.Chalkboard or dry erase board?

When I was in elementary school, it was always chalk boards. I think in high school is when the dry erase boards took over all our classrooms.

16. Regular or mechanical pencil?

Mechanical! Who has time to keep regular ones sharpened?

17. Homework as soon as you get home or after dinner?

I really don’t remember this either. I know I always got it done.

18. Favorite after school snack?

fruit or celery and peanut butter

19. Favorite after school show?

My sister and I watched a lot of Nick.

20. Favorite subject in school?

English

21. Least favorite school subject.

Geometry was the absolute worst!!!! And often times, I was bored during history.

22. Name of  your best friend in high school.

Erin

23. High school mascot.

I was a Wildcat for the first year and a half, then an Eagle when we moved to Georgia the middle of my sophomore year.

24. SAT or ACT

I took the SAT. Funny story, my first day at my new school in Georgia was the day they were taking the SAT practice test. Talk about getting thrown to the wolves, right???

25. Favorite year in school.

My middle school days. I went to a smaller school in Missouri then and I had such a great group of friends, was super involved in activities and just remember having a lot of fun.

26. Class ring or no class ring?

I had a class ring with my graduation year on one side, and my flute on the other. My birthstone was the stone instead of the school color.

27. Attend or not attend high school reunions?

Not attend. When I graduated high school, I had only been in school with those kids for two and a half years. I didn’t grow up with them. It was such a huge school, over 1,000 people in my graduating class. I care nothing about going to the reunions. Honestly, I only follow a select few people from high school on Facebook and haven’t seen any of them in years since I don’t even live in the same state.

I hope you are all enjoying your long weekend!!! I will be back tomorrow with weekend shenanigans!

Friday Favorites

You guys, dirty daycare germs are no freaking joke. Zoe had a fever Sunday and I took her to the doctor Monday and we found out she had an ear infection. The doctor told me to keep her home Tuesday too, and good thing I did. Tuesday morning I woke up with a stomach bug, on top of the cold I already picked up from her Monday. Trying to care for a sick baby who still manages to crawl around and pull up on everything when you are lying on the floor dying is not the easiest thing to do. Plus, Chris came home sick Tuesday night too. I am glad that we are on the other side of it all now and I *think* we are all on the mend.

Needless to say, I am riding the hot mess express this week. I am behind on all of the things and I honestly don’t even care. I am so glad Friday is here and that it is a three day weekend. And not just any three day weekend, it is the kick off to the college football season! Hurrah! Bring on all the apps and trash talk. Other than that, I am not sure what we have planned for the weekend. Probably taking it a little easy as we all finish recovering.

Favorite Moments:Feeling better and being able to look like a human again.

We sad goodbye to a coworker this week who accepted a new opportunity, and that was sad. But when he was cleaning out his office….he gifted me brand new Tiffany Champagne glasses. They are still in the pretty blue box and everything. Score!!!

Sweet, caring friends are always the best. Laura checked in on me every day I was sick, multiple times a day. Thanks for making sure I wasn’t dead!!! Hopefully we are having lunch today. I enjoy our lunch dates!

Favorite Delivery: My mom sent me some money to get something fun for my birthday. I ordered this BaulbeBar necklace that I had my eye on. I wore it yesterday and am obsessed! It is actually two separate pieces, one is a double layer and then there is a separate choker. It is so pretty.

Favorite Canned Drinks: Lately, it seems more and more adult beverages are showing up in can form, and I am loving it!!! Chris and I have been finding some serious gems at our local Hop City and I wanted to share three of my favorites. These are all light and summery! Trying to grab them all up before it is all about pumpkin things, you know? What is your favorite?

Pamp Fizz is a grapefruit rose that is real light, bubbly and refreshing. It is French but I think out of NY? I found these in single cans.

Atalanta is from Orpheus Brewing out of Atlanta. This is a Tart Plum Saison and it is so good!!!! It sort of reminded me more of a Gose than a Saison, but the plum notes give it a sour beer taste. Sours are my favorite. This one is so delicious!

Laura and I discovered Briney Melon Gose from Anderson Valley when we were out to lunch a few weeks back. Anderson Valley is out of California. This one has your typical Gose base, and the melon flavor is very noticeable in a good way. It is honestly one of the first melon beers that you could actually taste melon. And it was hints of watermelon, honeydew and cantaloupe. I saw they have a Blood Orange one out for fall now, I can’t wait to try it next.

Favorite Humans:It has been completely devastating watching the coverage in Houston and areas hit by the hurricane. My heart goes out to all of those who were stranded and lost everything. It warms my heart and reminds me that the world can still be a good place when I see strangers from all over the country coming together to send support and relief.

Favorite Funnies: Football edition!

weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans

We started Friday off with some Sweet Potato Turkey Nachos and an early bedtime. Is anyone else so exhausted by the time Friday rolls around, that they literally feel like doing nothing? I know Zoe was feeling it too. She was passed out within five minutes on our car ride home.

Saturday morning felt so glorious!!! The skies were overcast and it was only in the 70’s. I was able to cut both the front and side yard with no problems. We then drove around downtown and settled on Avondale Common House for a late lunch. I ordered my first BLT ever. I never order those, because I honestly don’t like plain red tomatoes or mayo and usually that makes up the gist of a BLT, no? This was a Southern BLT and it had fried green tomatoes, bacon and pimento cheese. Yes, please!!! Chris and I shared an order of Totchos and he had some kind of fancy steak that came with sweet potato hash that looked delicious. Zoe was so intrigued by my sandwich that she grabbed a whole half while I was busy picking her toys up off the floor. I think she was purposely trying to distract me!

I ordered an Avondale Peach Saison, and it was delicious….but tasted nothing like peaches of any kind. Still probably one of my favorites from them. They are a local brewery here in Birmingham.

After lunch, we headed home and hung around the house the rest of the evening. Chris ended up ordering Papa Johns Pizza for a late night dinner, and I went rogue and ate a whole lot of it between Saturday night and last night. Oops. It was just….so good.

Sunday morning, Zoe was up before 5am with a fever and not feeling herself. She drank 1/3 of her usual bottle and just wanted to cuddle up with me. I put on Sofia the First and let her nap on me on the couch for a good two hours. She battled a fever on and off all day yesterday and woke up with one again this morning. I decided to work from home and got her an appointment to see the doctor. There is definitely a lot of illness going around here. I am hoping she starts feeling better, I hate seeing her miserable. I myself woke up this morning feeling like a swallowed a box of razor blades, so I can’t imagine how she must feel  🙁

We got our grocery shopping knocked out yesterday and spent the rest of the day around the house. My sister came over to see Zoe for a little bit, and she was in really good spirits while Aunt Tracy was here. The rest of the day she casually played, but mostly cuddled in for naps. Every once in awhile, she will give me a smile.

I hope you all have a great week! Linking up with Biana.

Friday Favorites

Oh hey there, last weekend of August! Crazy, right??? When I opened the back door to let Mac out this morning, it wasn’t oppressively hot outside. Dare I say there was just the slightest chill in the air?!? (When I say chill, I mean it was 64 instead of 84 at 6am.) It was quite lovely. I don’t know about you all, but I am SO ready for fall!!!! Next Saturday football starts!!! Anyone else counting down?

Love it ....have already started the countdown RTR ❤️

Not really sure what all we  have planned for this weekend. I know at the top of the list will be purchasing a baby gate. Someone is on the move all day every day.

Favorite Moments: I had a work lunch last Friday and had to cancel lunch with Laura. So we decided we would make Tuesday special instead and went to Babalu. It was Taco Tuesday, where tacos are $2 each, so obviously we had to try lots. Annnnnd they basically have the best guac ever, so that was a duh.

On Thursday when I was driving through town and noticed the Heavenly Donut Truck! It is not often that food trucks come up our way!!! I swore if I ever saw them, I would grab some donuts for Zoe’s sweet teachers, and that is exactly what I did. Of course, I grabbed one for myself too. I know those teachers work hard and  have so much patience. They love on my Zoe Bear day after day and I wanted to do something for them.

I think that Zoe is cutting some more teeth right now. She hasn’t been napping much and seems a little off. Plus that pesky cold is still lingering around. That doesn’t keep those sweet smiles from coming though!!! Words cannot describe how much I love this little girl!

Favorite Purchase: On Tuesday night, I got up the courage to start removing items from my closet that do not fit right now. I still have a ways to go to get back to my pre-pregnancy size. Every morning when I get dressed, I start stressing out in my closet because I am staring at an entire wardrobe that simply does not fit. I have a few select things that I can wear and feel confident in. That is not good for my emotional state. I removed about 3/4 of my clothes. I put them in my office in a basket so that when the time comes, I can have them all back. I just don’t need them staring me in the face right now. On Wednesday, I went to Nordstrom Rack to get a few pieces so I have more than just a couple outfits to wear. My most favorite item I picked up is this top from Bobeau. It is so flattering on!!! I grabbed it in light gray because it was all they had at my location, but I really want this pink color too! You can’t beat the price and it is so cozy!

I also grabbed this Pleione ruffle top and this DR2 poncho.

I thought about maybe doing a post on how to dress your postpartum body while you are in transition to your former self. Or whatever your new self is going to look like. Would you be interested in that?

Favorite Recipe: I am going to try this greek yogurt chicken salad for lunch next week! It sounds super easy (uses rotisserie chicken) and I think I am going to have it with crackers, and then bring some carrots to go along with it too.

Favorite Funnies:

Ha ha , I know right!

Bean salad

"You need to remember who you're talking to." Honey, so do you.

coffeegasm More

It's beginning to look a lot like fuck this. ... oh hell yes!!

Linking up with Amanda. How you all have a great weekend!!!
