Random Questions

That top picture has nothing to do with this post, rather it is where I wish I was just about every day!

So Laura nominated me for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award and I love reading random question posts from other bloggers…so I thought I would join in on the fun! You can see Laura’s post here.

1. What is the very first thing you do in the morning and the very last thing you do before going to sleep?

The first thing I do every morning is coach myself in to getting out of bed. My alarm on my phone is called -YOU NEED TO WORKOUT. Rude! At night, I guess the very last thing I do before I hop in bed is plug my phone in to the charger.

2. What are your favorite boy name & girl name for your future children (I know you have them) or just in general…?

If I shared information like that, I would have to kill you. I will say that I am not a fan of super popular names that everyone has, nor am I a fan of stupid celebrity names like Apple, North or Blue Ivy. I have really grown to love my name over the years because it is different than most people I meet, and I like different!

3. Where’s the farthest place you’ve ever driven to (or road tripped) why did you go and who were you with?

Most of my road trips have been about 9-10 driving hours, but usually end up around 12-13 hours with traffic, bathroom and eating breaks.  I think the furthest distance traveled is probably my current location in Alabama to Pittsburgh, PA to visit family. My mom and I made the last trip back in 2010 and I really need to go up there again soon. I don’t like waiting that long in between visits. It takes about 13 hours. I think Chris needs to go with me next time, he has never been out of the south east!

4. What is the best gift you’ve ever received?

Does my engagement ring count? Chris and I got engaged on February 19, 2010 and I will never forget the evening! You can read our engagement story here.

Engagement Ring5. If you could see one person or group in a dream concert (alive or dead) who would it be?

I would love to see NSYNC get back together for another tour!!! I saw them when I was in high school and it was awesome. One of my favorite concert memories was Marvelous Three, I wouldn’t mind seeing them back together as well! And while we are at random information, my very first concert I ever saw was Matchbox 20. My dad won tickets when we were back in Pittsburgh visiting family and he took me. It was just the two of us, I was a freshman in high school and I still have the tshirt!

6. What is one food that just grosses you out?

Okra. I am not from the south, so I didn’t grow up on the stuff. I didn’t even know what it was until I moved to Georgia. The texture and consistency is what does me in. My mom and I refer to them as loogie balls. *shudders*

7. Has someone close to you lost someone in their family? How did you handle it?

Loss is always hard, but it is even harder when it is someone in your immediate family. My sister lost both her father-in-law and mother-in-law in the same weekend. You see, they were taken by the tornado that hit Alabama on April 27, 2011. She was the one who found them, her FIL was already gone and her MIL was flown to a nearby hospital to pass away just a day later. They had a joint funeral, and I will say that I have never seen so many people at a funeral before. It was really hard watching my sister’s family go through this. They had lost their own home as well, so their lives were literally uprooted.

The only thing you can do is be there for the person. I offered hugs and condolences when it happened. Chris’s mom and sister brought their family food after the funeral. I took the kids for a little while to make it easier for them to get some things handled. I think the important thing is to continue to offer support days and weeks later. Grief can come in waves. The only thing I would recommend is not to say you understand how they are feeling. Because even if you have experienced your own lost, you do not understand how it makes another person feel. Just say you are there for them and want to do anything you can to help if they need it.

8. What is your favorite tweet or instagram you’ve ever shared? Show us the link!

Hmmm to be honest, I really don’t know. My Instagram is filled with pictures of my dogs and food. Are you following me? Twitter account and Instagram account. I really enjoyed the #inthedrawer challenge that Jana and I did back in December.

9. What is the one purchase you’ve made on your own that you are most proud of?

The first car that I bought on my own, a 1999 Toyota Camry. I purchased it while I was in college and my Jeep was failing me. I had that baby for nearly 10 years! It never did me wrong and was a great car.

10. What is your job and where do you work (because I’m nosy like that).

I wont give specific details, but I am a market analyst for a commercial appraisal company in Birmingham. I have my Bachelors degree in Real Estate.

I am not going to nominate specific people, all of my readers are awesome and deserve this award! I invite anyone reading this to go ahead and answer these question! Let me know if you do, I want to see it!

So, if NYSNC ever does decide to tour again, we’re going. That was THE highlight of my high school years, plus B Spears opened for them, so double awesome. I also hate okra — it’s gross and I hate when it’s used as a garnish in a Bloody Mary. Just no.

What happened to your sister’s in-laws is just absolutely awful. I can’t even imagine. In other news, how did I not know that we drove the same car for a while! My 99 Camry went off to be with its new owner back in December! Drove that sucker since I was 15!!

#7 was a surprisingly serious question. That sucks about your sister’s family, but your advice is good. My first instinct is always to try to find something comparable in order to better empathize, but in that case it’s probably best to keep the focus on that person and their grief.

Your rings are gorgeous! And I think it’s hilarious that you’re jealously guarding the secret of your future children’s names. I’m sure they’re unique and amazing!

I think an engagement ring is a gift, no?

Tried to get up early to work out today. Failed. LOL

I could not agree more with your thoughts on names! My name is a little different and I love it. It is not a super weird celebrity name – North West I’m looking at you – but it differentiates me from the crowd. I always felt bad for my friends at school that were Jessica A., Jessica B. and Jessica C.

I’m the same with names, won’t share them until the baby is born, haha.

This was a fun post to read :)!

I wouldn’t have shared the baby names either! hahahahahahaha!

And I would love to be at the place pictured above. Looks very peaceful

Matchbox 20 – wow – I used to LOVE them!

#7……I can’t even imagine that is so tough!!!!

I saw NSYNC in concert in high school (no strings attached….not that I totally still remember) I wish I could see them again! I have a feeling it would be a lot of drunken late 20’s and 30 year old chicks 😉

I am not a fan of trendy (aka fake) or celebrity names. I like old, classic, english names – i know a lot of people don’t! my name is a bit like yours – although nadine is quite popular at home. it’s not too out there and made up, but it’s not jessica or sarah so people get it wrong all the time, so i want my kids to have the easiest, simplest, least made up names possible, lol.
i cannot imagine how hard that was for your sister and her family. so sorry!

my friends and I were JUST talking about how N Sync NEEDS A REUNION. I keep hearing about this BSB documentary but I refuse to watch because I am N Sync all the way and something deep inside makes me feel like I can’t support BSB’s things, same as how when I was 12 and refused to buy BSB CDs or vote for them on TRL hahaha

Just came over from one of Ashley Nevis’s post on cities she wants to visit and I’m so glad I did! Totally random but had to share some tidbits: My bf’s name is Chris, we also met online, he’s from AL, AND my BDay is on Feb 19 (of course I read your Engagement Story :).). Love tiny coincidences like that.

Have a good week and great to “meet” you(r blog)!

Your wedding set is so gorgeous!
So awful what happened to your sister’s in-laws. That’s one of those things you just never think will happen to someone you know.

  • Reply jackie March 24, 2015 at 3:19 pm

yeah you definitely need to make another pittsburgh trip. even though that is a pretty far drive ugh. and so sad about your sister’s in laws – what a tragedy.

  • Reply alyssa March 24, 2015 at 8:51 pm

*NSYNC was my first concert as a kid. I would loooove a reunion tour! How great would that be?
That’s so sad about your sister’s in-laws. How tragic. How lucky she is to have you and the rest of your family there in such a hard and tragic time.

  • Reply ellesees March 25, 2015 at 6:48 am

okra grosses me out too. i can only eat it in small pieces that are fried, that pretty much defeats the purpose of a vegetable. must have slipped my mind that you’re in GA!

  • Reply Heather @ My Little HEA March 25, 2015 at 1:40 pm

I missed the word Okra and was like loogie balls?! Lol. That’s stinky sad about your sisters family, but it’s good that you guys could be there for them. My dad and I could have done a Matchbox Twenty concert together back then, he loved them! I’m gearing up for a trip back from KS, flying there but driving back the 20+ hours. Good thing is I have my audio books!

Road trips require good company and I’ve already told Mr. Scrooge that since he’s the worst traveler known to man, I’m only interested in traveling with him in ways that take the least amount of time. I didn’t even feel a little bad for hurting his feelings. The longest trip I ever took was with my Granny, we drove from NC to Seattle, WA. She read every.single.road sign we passed. I went crazy. We were so glad to be away from each other when we got back to NC. Sooooooooo glad, but I love her and she’s my favorite and I’m her favorite, so we talked again a week later and all was well. 🙂

I love your answer to the best gift.
So sorry about your sister’s family. I will say this, as someone who has lost a family member, your advice on grief is spot on!
