weekend shenanigans

Birthday Weekend Shenanigans

Working on a Monday is bad enough. When it is your birthday??? It should be illegal!!!

First of all, I want to give a shout out to my birthday twin, Kate!!! Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!! How awesome is it that we were born on the very same day, the very same year?

This weekend was fabulous. We binge watched the crap out of Hart of Dixie and finished up the very last season. I am so sad to not have any new episodes of those to look forward to!!

Saturday morning I got up early and cut the front yard. I ran out of gas and decided to just quit after that. There is always next weekend! I came inside and did a quick clean down around the house and got ready to head out. Chris asked me where I wanted to go for my birthday lunch and I had a hankering for sweet potato chips with blue cheese….so we headed to Mudtown!

We sat outside on their patio and it was so nice out! I was really glad it wasn’t overly hot this past weekend. Natures present to me! We had the sweet potato chip app with bacon blue cheese dip, and I had the Soco Burger as well.

Chris had bought me a beautiful Michael Kors bag for my birthday. So sweet!!! I decided that I had too many bags that looks similar to it though, so we exchanged it for the sunglasses I had my eyes on all summer since they didn’t really have any other bags there that stood out to me.

We hit up some thrift stores, walked around TJ Maxx and since we all know birthday calories don’t count….we headed to Yogurt Mountain!

I had birthday cake with cookie dough and sprinkles, peanut butter fudge with butterfinger and red velvet cupcake with oreos on top because that is how you do it, duh!

Saturday evening we settled in for some Netflixing and nachos 🙂

Yesterday we met up with Chris’s family for birthday lunch at Munoz. Not a picture was taken, but we had fun! We then got out grocery shopping done and started watching Once Upon a Time. I can’t decide if I like it yet or not but we watched like 5 episodes…so it definitely has my interest. Do any of you watch it?

I also wanted to give a shout out to Heather who was so sweet and surprised me with a birthday present in my mailbox!!!!

Not a single alcoholic beverage was consumed this weekend. I don’t even know how that happened? I have been trying to have a drink since Thursday. Hopefully that will change this week. I smell a happy hour or something coming up in my future.

A look at birthday’s past….

True story

How I feel this morning after staying up way later than I usually do last night…

When you turn on the sad face

When you talk about a status update you saw…

When someone is right and you have nothing to say…

I am not sure what I will be getting in to this weekend, I feel exhausted! We had a scare with my nephew last night. All is ok now, but man does your adrenaline start pumping when you get that call!!I spent a few hours with them at the ER last night and I just don’t know how parents do it. I saw several rooms with kids and their parents looking all worried and pacing. I freak out when my dog has to get to the vet…I just can’t.

I hope that you all have a fabulous weekend!!!! We are half way through August now, what????

about me

Advice for the Twenty Something

As I am approaching my 32nd birthday, it got me thinking about all the things I wish I would have known or done in my twenties. To be honest, the twenties are a weird time in life. You are still trying to figure out who you are, what your purpose is, how to live in the real world, you aren’t a child but you don’t quite feel like an adult either. (This is beginning to feel oddly like a Britney Spears song.)

I was terrified of turning 30. I am not really sure why? Perhaps because I spent the majority of my life thinking that 30 was old. Or that maybe 30 was when the fun was over? Either way, I couldn’t have been more wrong. Any 30 something I know will tell you that your 30’s are way better than your 20’s. Surprising, right?

Advicefor thetwenty something

–Don’t be so afraid of turning another year older!!! I dreaded my 25th birthday. I felt like there really wasn’t any more birthdays to look forward too after that. But you know what? Life is a gift. There are way too many people that don’t get to see that next year. Don’t be afraid of it, embrace it!!!!

–Stop worrying that you don’t have everything figured out yet! When we were in high school, they started making us plan out our future. We needed to know what we wanted to be when we grew up, all that shit. But you know what? Life doesn’t work out like you planned. You can’t possibly know what the future holds for you, so stop trying to obsess over it. All it does is cause anxiety and isn’t allowing you to fully enjoy the now.

–Start your health and exercise routines now. Sure, your metabolism may not have been where it was when it was 18, but you figure it really isn’t that bad. You do these stupid crash diets to look good for that event next Friday night or that pool party this weekend but then you fall back in your old ways, you stop for fast food more often than you should and you aren’t consistent with work outs. Let me tell you something, especially you ladies….when you look in the mirror when your 30 and you see that gravity is starting to take Course on your arms, your face, your chest, just everywhere….you are going to wish you would have worked harder in your 20’s so that you didn’t have to play catch up in your 30’s. It isn’t easy my friends. Not even a little.

–Take care of your skin!!!! I can’t tell you how much I hate the fact that I went to the tanning bed and worried about having some color when I was in college. Sure it was only a few years, but I have some sun spots that nothing in a bottle will lighten or get rid of now. It isn’t worth it!!!! I have seen some of my classmates and they are looking a little rough these days. Leather skin is not in.

–Along the lines of taking care of your skin, be sure that you are removing your make up every night. Sure you might have gone out and had a few drinky drinkies tonight and you really just want to crash in your bed. But if you do that too often without removing your make up, your face will start to tell the story! I was pretty good about having a skin care routine in my 20’s and I am so thankful for it now!!!! And don’t forget to moisturize, no matter how oily your skin is and you think you don’t need it. You do. Just trust me, ok?

–Be the best friend that you can be to anyone, but don’t be a doormat. I was that doormat. And when I lost the one friend I thought I would have been friends with forever, my world came crashing down on me. It hurt so bad to be thrown away like I was nothing when I finally had stood up for myself and tried to let her know that she wasn’t going to walk all over me anymore. To this day I still get sad about it, but I look back and realize that I had given so much and got little in return. Friends come and go from our lives, and that is just the hard truth. It hurts no matter the age or how long you were friends but no one deserves to be used.

–Work on keeping a relationship with your family. Sure, life can get busy sometimes and everyone has their own schedule to attend to. But you know what? Family is everything. You are going to wish you spent some more time shopping with your mom or grabbing a drink with your dad. Those memories are priceless.

–Start adding to your retirement or 401K plan now. Anything that you can add is better than nothing! I didn’t think I could afford to do that in my twenties and now I hate that I have to make up for it.

–Stay true to yourself. Never try to act like something you are not because you think people will like you better. Living a double life like that is exhausting and helps no one. Own who you are.

What is a piece of advice that you would give to a twenty something….or me!

confessions

Confessions – Chicks Dig Scars

–This past weekend Chris asked me what that book and tv show about bears was when we were little. I replied with Berenstein Bears? He was like yeah, that’s it! How do you spell it, I want to show you something on YouTube. I started spelling it out for him b-e-r-e-n-s-t-e-i-n.

When he pulled it up, there were several videos about how it is actually Berenstain not Berenstein. Video after video we watched and I could almost swear on my life that it was Berenstein. Now, I am questioning everything. Literally everything that I have ever believed. Please, someone else agree with me that it was with an E not an A?!?!?!?!

Google that shit. It will blow your mind.

–Last week at the grocery store, I chose food based on the “best buy” date because it was my birth date. No shame in my game.

–I bruised my ankle with a five pound weight. You would think that I just dropped it right? No. Not even a little. You see, the light went out in our guest bedroom and I jumped up on the bed to change the light bulb. I keep my free weights up there and I was too lazy to move them. Well, apparently when I stepped up my weight shifted the crappy mattress in there and the weight came rolling on to my ankle. WTF? I wish I had cool scar and bruise stories, but I dont.

–In fact, I have this super deep scar along my knee. A few people asked me if it was surgery scar in the past. I always reply with nope I am a badass and got in a fight with a metal clock when I worked at Kirkland’s. That’s right folks, I had a metal clock go through my knee after loosing my balance on a step ladder.

–If that isn’t testimony enough of my badassery, one Sunday while working at Kirklands I was on a 12 foot ladder getting some lamp shades down from a top shelf for a customer. Someone didn’t have the ladder locked in place like it was supposed to be and when I got all the way to the top and reached out, the ladder went out from under me and I fell through dozens of glass framed art work on my way down. It was only I and one other girl working at the time and we were super busy. I went out and started checking people out at the cashwrap with a torn shirt and bloodstains on my back. Fun times. Fun times. Gotta love the college years when you can bounce back from anything, am I right?? One fall on the bathroom tile these days and I am limping around for weeks and practically need a walker.

Tailgate Tuesday

In the spirit of the upcoming football season, I am linking up with Erin for Tailgate Tuesday!! If football isn’t your thing, I linked up with Show Us Your Books earlier today and you can find all my reviews here!

Who I Root For:

Here in Alabama, you have to pick a side. You are either for Alabama or Auburn. Even if you don’t care about football, YOU MUST PICK A SIDE. When I moved over here from Atlanta, I didn’t try to fight it. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. I  already liked Alabama anyways, and since that is who Chris and his family pulled for…the decision was easy. Plus I never did like that hideous orange color of Auburn anyways. (Sorry Laura, love you mean it.)

I also pull for Georgia. It is going to be weird this year when Alabama plays Georgia, as the outcome for me is happy either way. Though, I will be pulling for Alabama just a little more I guess.

And let’s be honest…

Hmmmmm....

I don’t get in to the NFL as much as I do college football, but being born in Pittsburgh I obviously am a Steelers fan!! I also like the Packers and the Falcons.

What Game Day Looks Like:

Chris likes to watch most of the games with his dad, so more often than not you can find us at his parents house. When we aren’t there, we are kicking it down at World of Beer. They have so many TVs!!! Now and then we do stay at home and watch it. I mean, we have a pretty sweet set up at home and it is a shame it doesn’t get used more!

What to Wear:

All of the houndstooth and elephants!!!

Chocolate Oatmeal Cream Pies for football season! Just like the classic, but chocolate!

Jam Hands: Crab Rangoon Cups

Buffalo Meatballs

The smoky bacon flavor pairs perfectly with the spicy heat from the jalapeños and the coolness of the cream cheese. Only took us 20 minutes to make. Repin! #stepable #recipes #appetizers

5 layer greek dip with: humus, olives, red bell pepper, fresh dill, cucumber, and feta!

Loaded Baked Potato Dip

To be honest, I am prepping myself for a rebuilding season with Bama. I mean, we don’t even really have a quarterback right now. So I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of stress drinking and swearing during games this year.

That awkward moment when someone doesnt understand that 'Roll Tide' really is an acceptable response.
