Friday Favorites

Today is my last day of leave. I cannot believe how fast this time has gone. I can’t tell you how many times I have cried over the last several weeks knowing that this day would come and I would have to go back to work and be away from Zoe. Up until this point, I haven’t been away from her for a single moment so Monday morning is going to be really really hard!!! Luckily, my boss is awesome and very understanding and he is going to let me work from home a few days a week until we get off the daycare waiting list. But Monday morning and a few days a week I will have to leave Zoe and go into the office. So I am going to soak up every moment of today and this weekend before the tears come Monday morning.

Favorite Moment: Getting to see how much Zoe grows and develops each day is the coolest!!! Last night we were hanging out in her chair and she starting touching the toys that I was holding in front of her. And then she actually turned a page in her book!!! Such a proud mommy moment over here!!!

Clearly all that learning was exhausting though, this was her about five minutes later…

Another favorite moment? How excited Mac was when Zoe and I picked him up from the groomers yesterday. He doesn’t look like a crazy homeless man anymore…

Favorite Recipe: Breakfast is the hardest meal for me. I want to eat healthy, so all the good breakfast foods are out. I am not eating any grains right now so that takes out even more options. I hate eggs. Hate them. So it doesn’t leave a lot of options left. This week I have been roasting butternut squash for breakfast. It might sound weird for breakfast, but it is delicious! I just cut them up into cubes pieces, toss in olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. I cook them at 400 for 30 minutes. Delicious!!!!

Favorite Lust: I saw this chair at Target when I was shopping with my mom this week. It is on sale for $30 off and it would be so cute in my office!!! I really liked where the back is positioned to. I am an odd bird and I like to sit straight up, I hate chairs that force you to lean back. How cute is this?

Pregnancy and Newborns – Things They Don’t Tell You

When you are pregnant or have a newborn, you learn very quickly that everyone and their mom wants to impart their wisdom on you. Sometimes the advice is welcomed, but most of the time it isn’t. I am not sure what it is about being pregnant and having babies, but people are so judgy and have an opinion about everything!!!

Before I got pregnant, I had in my mind what it might be like to be pregnant. I knew that it wasn’t always going to be sunshine and rainbows. I had a sneaking suspicion that I wasn’t going to be one of those women that just loved to be pregnant. People would tell me, oh I miss being pregnant! I thought it was total crap. But I get it now.

To be honest, looking back on my whole pregnancy, I was lucky. Sure, the first few months were a little hard because I was a nervous wreck second guessing every cramp or feeling that would be different. I was emotional and tired AF!!! But the middle? It was sort of fun. I got back some of my energy and I really started nesting. I loved the nesting phase, I got a lot of shit done!!! And when I started feeling those baby kicks??? It was the most amazing thing I have ever felt in my life. The last month??? Sucked major balls. Major balls. I was so miserable the last month I honestly didn’t know how I was going to make it most days. I was slammed at work, I felt like shit, I could barely get around, I wasn’t sleeping and I was just ready for baby to get here. And the swelling. Dear Lord, the swelling!!! No one told me that the swelling would actually hurt.

Everyone jokes about how new parents don’t sleep. This is nothing to joke about. The first three weeks were rough with capital woof! I felt like I was constantly feeding, pumping or burping the baby. I couldn’t sleep because the baby wasn’t sleeping much. I couldn’t sleep because I was constantly checking on her to make sure she was ok and breathing. I couldn’t sleep because I knew there was a million things that needed to be done around the house. Do you see where I am going with this? Yes, it is all normal. But what people don’t tell you is how this makes you an emotional basket case. I can’t tell you the number of times I broke down and cried since bringing Zoe home. I thought, why does anyone have a second kid???

Finally, around the fifth week she started sleeping four hours straight in the night and I actually slept. It was like I was a whole new person after three or four days of four hours of sleep! But I was still crying.

Now I cry because I love Zoe so much that it literally hurts.

Now I cry because seven weeks have gone by and she is getting bigger and I already miss how tiny she was just a few weeks before.

Now I cry as I put her newborn sized clothes in a box because she is too long for them.

Now I cry because I have to go back to work and I cant imagine being away from this little girl for even five minutes, yet alone a whole work day.

Now I cry because one day Zoe is going to come home from school upset because someone hurt her feelings.

Now I cry because one day someone is going to break her heart.

Now I cry when I go to pick Zoe up first thing in the morning and her frown turns into a huge smile when she sees me and I think, will she always smile like this when she sees me?

Now I cry because I am a huge sap.

Don’t take this the wrong way. I am the happiest I have ever been in my life, I don’t think I have postpartum depression or anything like that. I think this is just the way all new moms probably feel? The thing is, people don’t talk about this. No one told me I was going to cry this much!!! Ok, that isn’t true. Laura actually warned me that this was going to happen, but she was the only one!

I know before I got pregnant I thought that going back to work wouldn’t be that big of a deal. That I would probably look forward to the break during the day and adult interaction. I don’t feel that way at all. Before I got pregnant, I didn’t understand how women could say that they missed being pregnant. I thought, who would miss being that large and uncomfortable. But now I know that amazing connection that only you have with your baby as you carry it for 40 weeks and feel the heartbeat from within. Feel the kicks, the punches, the rolls, the hiccups.

I sat in the chair last night rocking my hiccuping Zoe to sleep, crying because it reminded me of how her hiccups felt inside my tummy. You know, because crying is just a part of life now.

But you guys, this smile….

Whole 30

One More Week

We have one more week left of January! Are you staying on track with your goals, resolutions, etc? I sort of got a cheat this last week. When you do Whole 30, you aren’t supposed to get on the scale at all. Well, I had to go to the doctor for my six week postpartum appointment and the nurse literally asked me what the scale said as she was writing on my chart sooooooo I had to look. So I know that I have lost a few pounds already this month! That is what kept me going this week because I was so tempted to cheat but I didn’t and I am so proud!

I was cleared for very low impact work outs. I will be starting tomorrow with some light arm weights and walking. I cant do anything too crazy, and no ab work for at least another four weeks she said. No problem, I hate ab work. LOL.

As far as eating goes, last week I made a lot of my favorites: kung pao chicken, pork chops, roasted potatoes, crock pot chicken.  This week’s menu will include a new chili recipe, sloppy joes over potates, taco bowls, turkey burgers and turkey stuffed zucchini ravioli. All Whole 30 compliant of course!

This is my favorite part of Whole 30, or any clean eating consistency. I am feeling lighter and more energized, and to me, that feeling is priceless!!! It takes a few weeks for those changes to happen, but when they do it is so much easier to keep on going. Tiger blood. Yes, please.

I just wanted to do my weekly check in for the link up, I will be back tomorrow with regular content! Happy Tuesday!

Hey there Friday!!! This week went by so stinking fast that I am pretty sure I have whiplash! I cleaned out a little of the garage this week, and chipped away a little more in the spare room. I also have binged more of Gilmore Girls and read more kid books to Zoe than I can count. She loves to look at the pictures in books!

Favorite Moments: Of course they all revolve around this little girl! She has been smiling up a storm and “talking” to me every day.

Favorite Recipe: This Whole 30 compliant Sloppy Joe recipe has been my jam!

Sloppy Joes - Paleo and Whole30 approved and can be made in just 30 minutes! So much flavor!:

Favorite Lust: Have you guys seen the new Too Faced Peach palette?! I am pretty sure this is going on the need list. It is gorgeous and I heard it smells amazing.

The highlighting palette looks awesome too and I heard that it looks great on lighter skin tones like myself.

Weekend Shenanigans and Back On Track

We are over half way through the month already, what?!?! I cant believe how fast my leave has gone, I will be going back to work soon. But I don’t like to even think about that right now, so on to more fun things like the weekend! This weekend we had dinner at my sister-in-laws Saturday night and then did a little late night grocery shopping. Sunday was a day of lounging on the couch and catching up with all of our TV shows. Yesterday, my I took my sister out shopping for some new work clothes. We had so much fun! Zoe loved getting to see both her aunts and her two youngest cousins this weekend.

So much excitement at Nordstrom Rack, someone decided to take a nap.

Her Sunday game is strong too, see…

As far as my Whole 30 journey? Well, things have been going well since I got back on track from the few infractions during the snow. I have been bringing back some of my favorite recipes from my last Whole 30 and trying a few new ones too. Emotionally this time is different for me since I am doing it for different reasons. It is a little harder to keep motivated to stay on track because I don’t have the work outs to go with it. I think I had an easier time last year because I was working out consistently as well and feeling results. You know, endorphins and shit.

It is easier to make the healthy choice now than the first week though, since I have flushed processed foods and sugars from my system I am not craving them as much. I am starting to turn to my long term goal and deciding where I will go on February 1st. I am thinking about doing a 90/10 diet or maybe….counting calories. And ohhhhhhh how I hate hate hate counting calories and tracking everything I eat.  We will see, I am still on the fence. Just trying to figure out the best way to stay on course.

Here is what my food has been looking like lately. No one said that being healthy meant being boring! Some of my favorite things tailored to be Whole 30 compliant! Thai Chicken Soup, Sloppy Joes over a potato and Kung Pao Chicken with stir fry veggies.

I was supposed to go to the doctor for my six week postpartum check up yesterday. They called me an hour before my appointment to let me know that they had accidentally scheduled me with the wrong doctor and that my doctor wasn’t in. I am rescheduled for late this week, so I am hoping for some good news to be healing well and hopefully be released to start working out again!  It is going to take a long time to build back up to where I was, so the sooner I can start…the better.
