about me

Never Say Never

I have learned over the years to never say never. Because life is crazy, and messy and unpredictable. And honestly, we all change and evolve over time. I am pretty sure that if you would have asked me 10 years ago, I could have told you with 100% certainty that I would never live in Alabama. Yet, here I am seven years in.

If you would have asked me just a year ago my thoughts on being a full time working mom, I would have told you that was what would make me the happiest. I couldn’t fathom the idea of staying home all day every day with a kid and no adult interaction. I thought it would be maddening. Turns out that working from home and getting to see Zoe all the time has made me feel so fulfilled and so very happy. I cant tell you how many times I have cried in the last week because I know that I am having to return to the office full time and will be putting her in day care soon.

You you could have told me that I would do a month of Whole 30 two years ago and I would have thought you were crazy. Me give up dairy, and grains, and sugar and alcohol for an entire month? Eat that strict? Nope, no faith in myself on that. And yet, in January 2016 I did just that and it was awesome.

When skinny jeans came out several years back, I thought to myself…yeah…not for me. Now? I am pretty sure the only jeans I have worn in the last two years have been exclusively skinny ones.

In high school and college I was a silver only kind of girl. Never even thought of gold as an option. Now, half my jewelry box is gold or rose gold. Still love silver, but I have expanded my collection to be more versatile. I even have some gold things around the house. gasp

I used to be a fast paced city living girl. I lived in downtown Atlanta for years. I thrived there and knew my way around the city and loved that life. Now we live 35 minutes outside of Birmingham in a quiet little town that pretty much no one outside of the county we live in has even heard of. You know what? I love it. Have you ever really seen the stars? You can see them at our house at night without all the city lights. We have lived there 5 years and it still takes my breath away single time. Driving the back roads gives your mind time to wind down. The slow paced life where you enjoy a cold beer on your back deck on a spring day is the life for me.

I mean, I have a pretty good idea of some things I will never do. Like sky dive? Yeah, no. Hike one of the tallest mountains? Probably not. But you know, whose to say what I will be in to and what kind of priorities I will have in ten years, five years, next month. What are some things that you thought you would never do and were dead wrong about it?

Friday Favorites

Oh, hey there Friday. You sure did sneak up on us! Sorry I went MIA all week. I was sitting here at my desk working on Tuesday and all of a sudden my email blew the fuck up and I had fifteen new jobs come in. No exaggerations. There have been three nights this week that I have put Zoe to bed, and then came in here and worked for a few hours instead of winding down with a glass of wine and watching TV or reading. So you know shit got real. Anyways, I hope you are all doing well! I am surely glad the weekend is upon us! I am not sure what is on the agenda, but it’s the weekend so it doesn’t matter!

Favorite Moment: Just cherishing every single moment I get to spend with this little one. I know that I am going to have to go back to the office every day instead of just once a week sometime soon, and I cant even talk about that anymore without breaking down in to tears, so again…cherishing every single moment of my precious Zoe time! We have gotten in a good groove, her and I. She is pretty much on a schedule now and it has been glorious.

Can she pull off a pineapple print, or what???

Also, I met up with one of my friends from the Friday Lunch Club on Monday. I haven’t seen her in quite some time and it was just so wonderful catching up with that sweet lady! I am so thankful to have some amazing, supportive woman in my life. Ones that, even if I don’t see or talk to them for a little bit….we pick up as if we just saw each other yesterday and keep on going. Ones if they see a missed call from you in the middle of the day, they call you back immediately and ask if you are ok because it is so unlike you to call instead of text. Ones that send you a random meme or GIF at just the right time because they totally get you.

Favorite Workout: I haven’t been getting in near the cardio that I need, but I have been working on my arms almost every day. I have two five minute arms workouts that I mix and match through my day when I have a few minutes. Going to be adding this one to it…

Sculpt and tone your arms in ways you never imagined with this barre inspired arm workout. Little movements with lots of repetition will work arm muscles in miraculous ways! Shaping your biceps, shoulders, and triceps. Home or gym workout!:

weekend shenanigans

Weekending

Some weekends don’t go quite as you plan. I had my sister lined up to watch Zoe on Saturday and an afternoon and evening of fun things planned for Chris for his birthday. Unfortunately around 10am Saturday morning Chris got an emergency call form work and spent literally all weekend working. I had to undo all of our plans, cancel the cookie cake and have all the sads that his special weekend was ruined by work things. Needless to say my first mother’s day was pretty craptastic too since my husband worked away the entire day. I did get in lots of Zoe time at least!!! Her and I have so much fun playing together!

Chris and Zoe got me an Apple Watch for mother’s day!!! I am loving it and realized how much I missed my fitbit for the reminder to move. I have the health activity alerts turned on so my wrist is reminding me to stand up more and get moving. I am finding myself running in place as I cook or brush my teeth again. There are three goals you are supposed to get every day, activity/calories burned, 30 minutes of working out and 12 stands in 12 hours. I want to see those circles full so this is going to be good for me! Also, having my texts come in on my wrist so I don’t have to carry my phone around has been fantastic!

Things that did happen this weekend? Zoe and I went grocery shopping Saturday evening and grabbed BBQ to go. I stopped and got a slice of cookie cake for Chris and I to have Sunday evening. I made BBQ nachos with the leftovers Sunday for lunch.

I had Zoe sitting next to me on the floor while I ate and we watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. She was less concerned with Mickey and more interested in my food. That look she was giving me….goodness! A few more weeks and we will be starting solids! Hang in there Z!!!

Sunday night I made lasagna for Chris since we didn’t get to go out to eat. He finally got to come upstairs and spend some time with us around 7pm. Hopefully we can recreate all his birthday fun another weekend! Poor guy!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!!! Despite cancelled plans, I am thankful for the time I got to spend with Zoe and some downtime around the house. I got lots of cleaning done and half the grass cut so that is something! Linking up with Biana.

Hey there, middle of May!!! This weekend is an exciting one for us because Sunday is Chris’s birthday!!! Hopefully we can make it out for a fun meal and some drinks to celebrate.

Favorite Moments: Yesterday, Zoe and I met up with Laura in Avondale for lunch to try out Avondale Common House that just opened on Wednesday. We say on Instagram that they had Apple Pie Nachos and knew that we had to go!!! We split the Totchos for an app, I had the Chimichurri Steak Sandwich as my main course, and then we split the Applie Pie Nachos. I can’t wait to go back and try more. Laura and I were eyeing everything that passed by us to other tables.

Soho Social share my sweet potato fries picture on their Instagram this week! So obviously I am a big deal now…

Favorite Delivery: My IT shadow trio came in this week!!! The colors are so gorgeous and they sent this amazing gift bag with all kinds of high end goodies to try! The Beauty for Benefits sale runs through this weekend still, so if you are in the market for some new products you can get them and support a good cause!

Favorite Lust: I think I need those Target sandals with the bows. I tried them on last Sunday and I was like…well if I am still thinking about them later this week I will go back for them. Spoiler Alert, I cant stop thinking about them! I am thinking the stripes ones?

Five Months

Zoe,

A week ago you turned five months old. Five months. I don’t even know how that is possible. Yet here we are. I have to say, your doctor was right. The four to sixth month age has been my favorite so far! You are discovering and learning new things all the time. Your personality is coming out more and more. I think we finally have you on somewhat of a schedule. *crosses fingers* And this month has been filled with smiles and giggles and squeals. Sqealing is your new favorite.

Nicknames:Little Z, Z, Zoe Bear, Bear, Cheeks, Lovey, Little Miss

Loves: Chewing on your fingers, squealing, smiling, giggling, pulling mommy’s hair, your O-Ball, Mickey Mouse and Sophia the First, “standing,” bouncing in your jumper and laying on your activity mat.

Hates: Naps. You are still fighting most of your naps like crazy!!! Can mommy have them then, please??? You also don’t like to hear yelling. I took you to your cousin’s baseball game and every time someone shouted, you had a complete breakdown. We had to leave early. You better get over that before football season my love. We are Bama fans and we are loud.

Milestones: You pretty much can grab anything that you want these days. You can sit up unassisted by us, with your hands on the seat in front of you to balance yourself. You have held your bottle alone a few times. Not only are you rolling without any issues, you also move a lot when you roll. This past month you started sleeping in your crib in your own room. I think it was harder on me than you. It only took about 3 or 4 nights and you had it all figured out.

Clothing: You are still wearing size 2 diapers and either 3-6 or 6 month clothing. A few 6-9 month things as well.

Feeding: I think we are finally on a feeding/sleeping schedule. You take 5 ounces around 630am, 800am, 1130am, 2pm, 530pm and 7pm. You go down for your morning nap around 830-900am and your afternoon nap after your 2pm bottle. You usually go down for bed after your 630-700 pm bottle and sleep until 630am the next morning.

Looks: Your eyes have stayed the same light blue this past month, and your hair has gotten even lighter. I have noticed that you are losing your baby hair.

Things I want to remember from this month…

–The way your eyes light up and you smile so big and proud when you roll over onto your tummy.

–How you sleep on your side with your arm bent up around your head for hours.

–The way you smile, open your mouth and close your eyes when I lean down for a kiss.

–How you smile when I say bless you when you sneeze.

–The way you run your little hand up and down your bottle when you are tired.

–The way you reach up grab my cheek and mouth, or pat my face. Especially when you are feeding.

–Your giggle and how when you get really excited you snort laugh.

–How excited you get when I “stand” you on my lap. You squeal and bounce on your legs so much!

–How obsessed you are with the “Zoe” door sign that your Aunt Tracy made you. After every nap and diaper change you see it and want to go over and for me to say the letters out loud and point to them for you.

–When we stand near the refrigerator you look at all the pictures of your cousins and then I say “where’s daddy” and you put your tiny little hand on his picture and just stare and smile. You also like to look at your sonogram picture of baby Zoe in mommy’s tummy.

And now for some comparisons!
