weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans

I could use about five more days off, but who can’t right?

Friday – So, as you know…last week I was in Orlando for work and we flew home Friday morning. When we were waiting for our connecting flight in Atlanta, we received an email from our boss letting us know that he encouraged us to work from home the remainder of the day instead of coming in the office. This was the best news ever! I was exhausted! It was a busy few days, and we had to get up super hella early to catch our flight that morning.

Friday evening, Chris came home and we had some left over pizza that he had ordered while I was gone and watched TV. I had approximately 3467 cups of coffee throughout the day Friday to keep me going.

Saturday – I woke up and cleaned the house Saturday morning and did some laundry. I started volunteering at the humane society in Birmingham a few weeks ago, and I had a canine class to take that afternoon. It was a great class and went over the basics on dog training and how to socialize the dogs.

There was this little puppy that was all alone after her litter had been adopted. Her owner had thrown acid on her and she had burn marks all over her little puppy body. Well, Saturday was her first day out in the play yard. Our class instructor said she had never been outside before and she army crawled around the play yard at first and was very timid and scared. Then she realized she was ok and started playing and was super happy.

When we were out in the play yard with another dog learning proper training techniques, someone else had brought her out and she saw the other dog and ran up to him and started giving him little puppy kisses and her tail was going crazy. My eyes started to water. It was the sweetest thing I have ever seen. And I knew that is why I was there. To give these dogs the happiest life that I can while we have them there. While we were watching football later that evening I had looked on Facebook and saw that the little puppy had been adopted that day!

Speaking of football, yikes! Chris and I watched the games with his dad. Where the hell did Ole Miss and Mississippi State come from this year? Alabama barely squeaked by Arkansas this weekend too! At last Georgia killed Mizzou.

Sunday – We headed over to Best Buy for me to look at phones. I am torn you guys! I thought I really wanted the iPhone 6. After looking at them, I would never get the 6. Maybe the 6 plus….but really…I was just completely underwhelmed by them both. I am now thinking about the Samsung Galaxy S5 instead. Do you have either phone? What are your thoughts?

Other than that, we did our grocery shopping and meal planning then spent the day watching TV and playing Mario Kart 8 and Putty for the PS4.

I used to love Super Putty for SNES and this game is an updated version. It was a lot of fun once I got in to it and I got past the first three levels 🙂

That was my weekend. Nothing too exciting but a lot of rest. We are supposed to have a super busy week at work so I am glad it was low key! I am behind on blog reading from being gone last week, so bare with me while I try to catch up with all of you!

Oh my gosh – I teared up over the puppy, I would’ve been bawling had I been there. I hope that sweet one gets adopted soon!

Aww, that poor puppy! I’m glad the pup got comfortable enough to enjoy time outside. 🙂 It also sounds like you had a much more productive weekend than I did! Hah.

I can’t believe how cruel people can be, especially to defenseless animals – it’s disgusting!! I’m so happy to hear you had a great relaxing weekend and hope that you have a great Monday!!!

I like the connectivity of the iphone technology (since I have a mac AND an ipad–I like that everything syncs across the board) but I was super tempted by the samsung too. Everyone I know who has one is in love with it. I say go for it if you’re loving it!

What a cool thing to volunteer at the Humane Society! That’s such a sweet story about that puppy playing! But how and why would someone throw ACID on a PUPPY?? What in the world?? I’m glad she’s doing well now though!

The Mississippi teams are insane this year! It’s been a very interesting season so far!

awww that poor puppy – what a horrible person, how can people do that? so happy she got adopted. we volunteered at pet smart for a little while but they didnt need us after long, so I might check out the humane society.. I know it’s small but it felt good doing something, and I just love animals, and how can you not want to help them?
Yay for working from home, wish my boss had said that today, not that I can work from home lol

That puppy story! It gives me the sads and the happies all at once. I’m glad you’re volunteering!

The puppy story is too much. All the feels. I hate the person who did that to him but I love the person who rescued him.

I need a new phone as I’m still sporting the 4s. I’m probably going to buy the 5s. The 6 is just too much phone for me.

So glad you are volunteering!! It will be the best thing! I got Seamus when I was volunteering. Poor thing, but I am glad he learned to be happy and a puppy again and is getting a second chance.

Good for you for volunteering! I am sure it will be hard not to bring a puppy home with you every time.

I literally teared up reading about your experience at the Humane Society. Which one are you volunteering at? We adopted Kane from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society in Homewood. I seriously want to save all those precious animals! It breaks my heart!!!

I’ve been wanting to help out with the pups, but with Avery that’s a little difficult! So glad she was adopted. Oh and I don’t know where MSU came from this year… but I couldn’t be happier!!! #Hailstate!!!

I do not understand what makes a person think it would be awesome to throw acid on a puppy! It makes me sad to hear about the cruel and sick things that animals go through. We need a play buddy for our dog but our house is kinda small so when we move we will be adopting.

  • Reply Amanda October 14, 2014 at 12:10 am

People who hurt animals or children are the worst kind of people there are. That person deserves to have acid thrown on THEM.

I’m glad you survived your work trip and I’m happy your boss pretty much gave you Friday off. I know when I get off a plane all I want to do is shower and sleep. I couldn’t imagine going into work.

It’s so amazing you are volunteering at the animal shelter <3. I think if I did that I would want to bring home a dog every week.

I love where you are volunteering! What an amazing way to give back!

And – I love the non-interesting weekends – they are the most personal and relaxing ones!

Hahaaha – oh side note – WOB – OMG. That is all.

It drives me crazy how cruel people are? How sick do you have to be to abuse an animal, let alone throw acid on a puppy?! I wish there were stricter laws against animal abuse. I have goosebumps reading that the pup was adopted out though – such great news!!

Good for you for volunteering. That’s got to be tough because it’s so sad, but people like you who are able to do so are seriously angels!!

Thanks for linking up for MMG 🙂
