Two Months

Oh Zoe, I can’t believe you are two months old!!!

Nicknames: Little Z, Cheeks, Sweet Cheeks, Kiddo

Loves: mat time on your back, crib and swing mobiles, anything that lights up, Violet (your Leapfrog dog that sings and has a collar that lights up), chewing on your hands

Hates: tummy time, waiting for your bottle to warm up

Milestones: On 2/2/17 you moved around your first rattle with assistance from the chair, on 2/6/17 you grabbed your first toy and moved it up to your mouth and proceeded to chew on it. And so it begins! You started smiling before your first month, but this month you really recognize everyone and smile when you see me come get you in the mornings or from a nap. Around the 7 week mark, you started going to bed for the night between 10pm-11pm and sleep until 5am-7am. It has been glorious!!! You have also been staying up longer stretches during the day, and taking less naps in general.

Clothing: I started packing away your newborn sized things around 7 weeks. You are getting to be too long for the items that had feet in them. You still fit in to two or three pairs of your newborn pants without any feet. Mostly you are wearing 0-3 month sized items, and a few 3 month things. Most 3 month things fit you length-wise but you are swimming in them otherwise.

Feeding: You take anywhere from 3 to 6 ounces when you have a bottle. Usually it is 6 ounces when you wake up in the morning, and mostly 4 ounce bottles every 2-3 hours during the day if you are awake. If you happen to take a long day nap, it is 5-6 ounces when you wake up!

Looks: Your eyes keep getting a lighter and lighter shade of blue, and your hair has gotten a little lighter too.

There are so many things I want to remember from the last month!!!

–How much you love laying on the changing table and having conversations with me. After I get your diaper changed and get you dressed again, I give you four kisses. One on your right cheek, then your forehead, then your left cheek then you always open your mouth real big like you are kissing me back! It is the sweetest thing!!!!

–The most dramatic way that  you grunt when you are stretching, or eating, or sleeping. It is adorable.

–The way you loudly suck on your pacifier when you’re mad that it isn’t your bottle. Sometimes you even give me an angry look while doing it and furrow your  brow.

–How you play with your hair when you are falling asleep.

–The huge smile that spreads across your face when you recognize me when you wake up in the mornings and I am coming in to get you. Melts my heart every time!!!!!

–When you try to talk to us and you sound like a little owl with a “who” sound.

–How you smile and give almost a little giggle noise when I open your diaper and find poo.

–The way you scrunch your shoulders when you smile real big.

–The way you tap your fingers on your bottle while you drink.

–When you lay down for mat play, you become obsessed with your dresser drawer handle and get frustrated because you can’t figure out how to move your arm to reach for it yet.

weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans

So my weekend can mostly be summed up with this picture…

It was very chill, and full of Zoe cuddles! I was pretty busy finishing up a job on Friday morning for work. Having been my first week back, I was pretty exhausted! We stayed in Friday evening and I enjoyed a glass of wine. Have you tried the Barefoot Sweet Red? The label is shiny, the wine is delicious and Target had in on sale for $6.49. Win. Win. Win.

We made a little money Saturday morning with a side gig we have going. My sister, her husband and their boys stopped by after their basketball games to spend some time with Zoe. My sister was having serious baby cuddle withdrawals. The rest of the day was spent lounging, watching movies and eating BBQ. Not a picture was taken, other than my usual twenty a day of Zoe. On Saturday she turned two months old. What???

Yesterday morning I meal planned and Zoe and I headed out to do our grocery shopping. When we got back, I prepped some queso and cocktail wieners and waited patiently for the Super Bowl to start. I was flying high on happiness by halftime, the Falcons were kicking ass and Lady Gaga had one of the coolest freaking halftime shows ever. The rest of the game was spent shaking my head and holding in all my screams as I watched the Falcons lose everything they worked so hard for. Ugh! And to Tom Brady and the damn Patriots. Woof. Chris declared this house a Kraft free house from here on out. He said to go ahead and throw out any of their products and never buy anymore again. And basically this…

Well, that was a bit dramatic. But seriously, after watching Alabama lose the National Championship and now this? Normally I don’t care about who is playing in the Super Bowl and just watch it for the commercials and halftime show. Chris was like, everyone hates the Patriots, they are like the Alabama of the NFL. I was all ohhhhh this must be what it is like to not be an Alabama fan? The rage is real.

What did you guys think of Lady Gaga? She is such an artist with an incredible voice and I thought the drones were pretty darn cool! I am glad she kept it classy. Were any of you as disappointed in the commercials as I was? Not a single one stood out to me or made me laugh out loud.

Reading: I am a little more than half way through Magnolia Story. I really love Fixer Upper and have been enjoying getting to know about Chip and Jo a little more. I am easing back in to my reading game. I haven’t read a book since the end of November!

Watching: After I finished Gilmore Girls, I watched the first season of One Day at a Time on Netflix. It was cute. Nothing amazing or mind blowing, but it passed the time just fine. Now I am watching Last Man Standing. I had never seen it before and I like that it reminds me a little of Home Improvement with Tim Allen only there are three girls instead of three boys. The show is light and has its funny moments.  Sometimes I just like light, fluffy sitcoms that don’t make me think or keep me in suspense.

Oh, and it didn’t hurt to have a surprise appearance from JTT!!! Middle school me squealed when he came on my screen!

Eating: Now that Whole 30 is over, I am going to be practicing 90/10 as well as I can. This weeks dinners are taco bowls, korean beef with stir fry veggies, braised pork chops and roasted potatoes, bbq chicken over sweet potatoes and kung pao chicken with stir fry veggies.

Working Out: So yeah, I have all the want to work out and none of the will to actually make it happen yet. Since I am easing back into work this week, I decided to give myself a few days to get a routine going. As much of a routine as one can have with an 8 week old! Am I right?

Quoting:

Enjoying: The fact that it is a little lighter a little longer in the evenings, and a little brighter a little earlier in the mornings! I love winter, it is my favorite season….but I hate how short the days are! Now that they are shifting to be longer again, it makes me feel like I have a little more time. Anything I need to tell myself, right?

Excited: For the weekend!!! I hate that I am back to the weekend mentality now that I am working again. It is just really exhausting during the week to work, get all the things done, care for a human, care for a dog and have five minutes maybe every other day to shower. I am not sure what our plans are yet, but there is just something great about Saturdays and Sundays knowing that you don’t really have to do anything. Well, other than grocery shopping!

confessions

Confessions

–My laziness is winning out over food some days. I will be hungry and want something to snack on, but since I had been on Whole 30 all month it eliminates all the easy to grab processed foods. Because I have to actually prepare a snack, I end up just skipping it all together. I mean, you can only eat so many nuts and everything else requires prepping. You would think this would aid in weight loss, but not so much I don’t think.

–There is nothing more unnerving as a new parent than when you wake up and realize that you actually had some REM sleep cycles and you start panicking and freaking out and run to your kid to make sure they are still breathing.

–I really really want a glass of wine.

–Speaking of wine, we live a good 20 minutes away from any grocery store. We do have a Dollar General about five minutes outside of our neighborhood though. Chris and his friend went there to grab a few things one Saturday and they came back with a bottle of $3.50 wine. I sort of laughed because the bottle said “Spring Creek Sweet Red.” But I was desperate (this was before Whole 30) and had a glass. You guys, it was really damn good wine. I think I drank half the bottle by myself. Don’t knock the Dollar General wine until you have tried it!

–I watched the entire Gilmore Girls series while off. I really enjoyed it. I had only caught a few episodes here and there when it originally aired, so it was great seeing it all. Then I watched the revival. I was super disappointed in Rory. Anyone else? Stop reading here if you haven’t watched it because I am going to say a spoiler. I mean, it is realistic that just because you went to a really good college doesn’t mean you are going to have your life together. But sleeping with Logan when he is engaged and just sort of bouncing around in life without any direction or morals? Sort of turned me completely off from her character. Loved Lorelei though!!!

weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans – One Month Down

Oh, hey there last day of January. What??? Who is still sticking with their resolutions this year? When I was a member at LA Fitness in Atlanta, this was about the time it went back to normal and all those eager beavers that were hogging my machines at the beginning of the month were just a faint memory.

Anyways…

On Saturday, we met up with Laura, B and their kiddo at Slice! This was our first outing with friends since having Zoe. Obviously, Zoe needed to meet her future husband. She may or may not have slept the entire time we were there.

I had my first beer since February/March of 2016. It was the Tart Plum Saison from Orpheus Brewing and it was delicious!!! I am a huge sour beer fan. I resisted ordering pizza and got a salad instead. My salad did have blue cheese on it and I did consume every last morsel of it. Whatever.

The rest of the weekend consisted of grocery shopping, meal planning, getting caught up on TV shows and watching a few movies.

So how did my month go? Overall, my main goal was to get back on track with healthy eating. I chose to do this with another round of Whole 30. Did I stay on it the entire time and never stray? No. But that wasn’t my goal. My goal was to use Whole 30 to nix the cravings, added sugars, processed foods and all the other shit I was consuming. I just needed to have somewhere to start.

I got rid of those sugar cravings! Hallelujah! I also dropped a few pounds. I stayed Whole 30 about 95% of the month. There were those two days I strayed during the snow storm, and then there was this weekend. I know that I could have done better had I given it 100%. And I would have had more results if I had added exercise. But baby steps. Slow and steady wins the race!

The reintroduction phase after Whole 30 is always the hardest. You were so used to having a list of yes and no, and now you are in this gray area. I think I am going to go with a 90/10 plan from here on out. Where I am good most of the time, but if we are out and a burger or  beer strikes my fancy I allow it. Just not every day. Not that I was ever that bad, but still. I did let myself indulge quite a bit while pregnant. As one should!

Now is the time I really need to get back on the fitness wagon. It isn’t that I don’t want to. Oh how I want to!!!! It’s just that I find myself wanting to spend every waking second that I have with Zoe. She has started going down for the night a little earlier this past week, and lasting about 6-ish hours before waking. It is soooooo awesome! If she keeps it up, I may be able to wake up before her and at least get some sort of work out in before she wants her bottle. I could be adding some free weights in during her naps and I have no excuse to have not been doing that the last two weeks. So that is what I am going to start with and see what happens! The other night I did some lunges while cooking and I am still feeling it today. Woof!
