Weekend Shenanigans

I want a weekend do over, it just went by way to fast!!!
Linking up with Sami for my weekend Shananigans, per the usual.
Friday night we went and saw Steve-O at the comedy club. It was pretty awesome. Everyone was really funny and Chris and I had a great time. I didn’t realize that he was 39. Sort of crazy to think about.
Saturday we went and looked some more for outdoor furniture. I forgot how much awesome stuff Garden Ridge has for the home. There are definitely some things that we want to go back for! Afterwards, we stopped at Billy’s (one of our fave lunch spots) and camped out on their patio for several hours. We got there around 4pm and figured we mine as well stay for some of the final four. I think we left around 9pm. I enjoyed watching the game, spending time with Chris and talking to some of the people who sat near us. What I did no enjoy is the amount of grown up adults acting like high school children. Grown up as in they are my parents age (late 40’s into their 50’s and possible some in their 60’s.)
I guess some people never really mature and move on from high school. I could not believe the amount of pretentiousness in one concentrate area. It made me sick, actually. Why are we having my boat is bigger than your boat contests at the age of 50? Are we that insecure with ourselves still and stuck on materialistic things? Pretty sad if you ask me.
Either way, Chris and I had fun laughing at the ridiculousness and watching the games!
Sunday we woke up and headed to Waffle House for breakfast..yum yum yum! Their bacon, egg and cheese Texas melts really are to die for. I don’t care how many calories is in it, I just skip lunch! Afterwards we got some stuff to care for our lawn, as it is looking a little sad. When we got home, I cleaned and meal planned for the week while Chris treated the lawn. We got caught up on a few of our shows as well, which I love having some down time!
Now it is time to tackle this week! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Bring it, Monday!
Also linking up with the Monday Mingling.

Coffee and Conversation: Spring Break

Linking up with Lauren and Kalyn for another week of coffee and conversation!
What is your best/fondest memory of Easter or Spring Break?

Coffee & Conversation
First off, I want to start with what happened to Spring Break? Why do adults not get one? I vote we look in to this a bit further and make it happen people!!!
For the most part, my spring breaks just meant a week home hanging out during the day. Sometimes my mom would take off and take us shopping and stuff like that. We didn’t really go on vacation for spring breaks.
My favorite spring break was the year that we lived in Georgia and went to Pennsylvania to visit my grandmother before she passed away. I always loved going there to visit because she was the person that I missed most when we moved away. We celebrated Easter with her, visited our old church, went shopping and just enjoyed hanging out with her in the evenings. My mom and I always stayed up real late with her and we would talk about anything and everything.

It’s Friday, Friday Gotta Get Down on Friday

the Sowell life
It’s Friday! Yay! Don’t pretend like you didn’t bust out in song when you read the title. The most anticipated day of the week for the working world.
Linking up with my girl Joy again for the Friday 5, because…what would Friday be without it??? If you haven’t checked out her blog yet, you need to! This girl is amazing.
1. Fresh Express Pear Gorgonzola Salad – I love you, let me count the ways. You have a wonderful mix of lettuce, your dressing rocks, and there are super yummy frosted almonds…need I say more? Seriously, go get you some! Publix has the Fresh Express mix buy one get one free, sale probably ends tomorrow. Yes, my other side for lunch was snap peas. They have such a crunch that I feel like I am having a treat 🙂

2. My bunny –  Seriously? This picture was worth sharing twice. I can watch my dogs run around the back yard for hours. Especially this little boy, as he tends to have a bunny hop when he runs and it is too cute for words. Mac was not amused by these ears, he tried to eat them when I took them off.
3. Stevo – Yes, you read that right…the dude from Jackass. He is gracing Birmingham’s presence this weekend. Chris got tickets because he “wants to support him.” My favorite thing that Chris said was, “well he is sobered up now, so I doubt he will be any fun”. Um…right. Either way, I love date nights with my husband and the comedy club has never disappointed me before so we shall see!
4. Revenge – I don’t know if you have ever seen this show or not. If you haven’t, DVR it RIGHT MEOW! Seriously? This is the best show on the planet. I can’t get enough. When the episode ends I am angry because I have to wait an entire week for another. It is only in its second season, so you don’t have much catching up to do, but you have to start from the beginning to get all the story plots and characters. It comes on Sunday nights.
5. Friday!!!! I think we can all say heck yes to this!
I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! Stay classy!

Never Have I Ever

Never Have I Ever
Linking up for never have I ever….this ought to be fun!
Never have I ever…
…smoked a cigarette – I find them repulsive and I have never even puffed on one. Why would you want to start that habit, I will never understand! Nothing good comes from them, unless you like black, cancer filled lungs and stinky clothes.
…been so drunk that I can’t remember what happened – Mom, dad…you’re welcome. In college, have I been a bit tipsy? Yes. But I have never been so drunk that I don’t know what is going on. To be honest…I don’t ever want to be drunk. I have control issues, and need to be in control of my body at all times. That doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy a glass of a good craft beer or a few fruity frozen beverages.
…been further west than Kansas. True story. I have however been all over the rest of the country!
…been to Disney Land or Disney World. I know, right? My parents totally ripped off my child hood. I hope to one day go and visit and yes…I will act like a 5 year old the entire trip. Lunch with the Disney Princesses? Don’t mind if I do!!! Wear the sparkly Minnie ears, yes please!
….been anywhere out of the country, except for Canada. Does Canada even count? I doubt it.
….broken any major bones (knock one wood!) Toes, yes…just about all of them many times but you can’t really fix a broken toe so they don’t count.
….been able to put eye drops or ear drops in on my own. I can’t stand the feeling and I can’t do it to myself. Not even as an adult.
….had a flu shot. Nor do I want one.
…..had allergy shots even though I probably need them….darn you pollen!
…had my own garden. I want to try this year though, just a small one to start out with.

Life Lessons I wish I Would Have Known Sooner

Have you ever sat down and thought about the things that really matter. Real life lessons. Not stupid geometry or geology that you had to take in high school (Life lesson number one…any class that starts with geo is stupid and unnecessary in real life.)
I am going to be 30 this year, and am coming to terms with this. Although, in my mind I will be 29 forever. These are some of the things I have learned…
Bad things happen to good people. It’s just a fact. We don’t have to like it, we can’t do anything about it.
People usually deserve a second chance…but don’t dare give them a third!
Take lots of pictures, you will just be glad that you did. Even of silly, insignificant events like dinner with a friend. They are the ones you will cherish the most later in life.
Take ownership of the things you do wrong, don’t make excuses. Your mistakes build your character.
First impressions can be very important, but they can also be very wrong.
Being serious is important, but being silly sometimes is even more important.
The things that you think are the biggest deal in high school and college are in fact, nothing at all!
Time heals all wounds.
Just smile, even when you are down. It will make you feel happier.
Everyone is going through something, be kind to others.
There will be a day when you just can not do everything. That is OK!
The only way to keep you mind straight and clean, is to avoid those that try to twist it.
Expect less from others, you will be a lot less disappointed.
Do not care what others think about you. For when you judge someone, that defines you…not them.
Those that are truly happy are thankful for what they have, not focusing on what they want.
Little acts of kindness are the most rewarding.
The difference between stumbling blocks and stepping stones is how you use them.
If you wouldn’t write it and sign your name to it, don’t say it.
Always be yourself. ALWAYS.
There is always some good in the world, and that is what is worth fighting for.
Do not let anyone crush your dreams.
Friends can be for a season or a lifetime. Sometimes even the best of friends are only for a season.
Real heroes are every day people.
Your parents are always right, just listen to them.
Your family is very important and not something to take for granted.
Always be a best friend.
Do you have a tough decision to make? Always do the right thing. Always. And while we are at it, tell the truth! If you tell one lie, you have to tell another…and ain’t no one got time to keep up with all that!
These next two lessons are things that I am working very hard on…
Everything you want is on the other side of fear.
If you don’t step forward, you are always in the same place.
Here is something I have learned from my dogs…
Kick some grass over that shit, and move on.
I shall leave you with some pictures…
Mac was not amused by his bunny ears.

Gracie will let me dress her in the most ridiculous of outfits, but put something on her head and she will freak out. She just kept shaking and shaking, the ears slid all the way down her neck. She says, silly mommy tricks are for kids!
Mac was in my lap at the table last night while I was on my lap top. He then climbed up onto the table, and proceeded to look cute to divert my attention. Well played.
