Friday Five-The Traffic Edition

Linking up with my girl Joy today for the Friday Five!
the Sowell life
I have been sitting in traffic a lot lately. Only in Birmingham would they shut down an entire section of an interstate to do repairs instead of lane by lane. I mean seriously? I lived in Atlanta for 13 years, so I know all about some traffic. Dear Lord, if you don’t have patience…do NOT live in Atlanta. It will take you an hour to go 8 miles on a good day, trust me…I know!
However, this is Birmingham…what the crap! The only traffic I should be seeing is the drive thru at the Whataburger, am I right?
Here are my top 5 things to do in traffic. (No judgement!)
1. Sing in the car
Any give day you may see me looking like this…
Or maybe like this….
(I mean…it is all about the props people!)
2. Twitter and Facebook trolling
This says nothing about checking social media, so don’t look at me like that! But seriously, it is when I am stopped. When else am I going to tweet?
3. People watch
Luckily I have tinted windows, so I don’t actually look like this….you know…because you can’t see me 🙂
4. Road Rage
Maybe this should have been number one on my list. There are a LOT of dumb people on the roads. Seriously, why haven’t we learned how to merge yet. If you do something really dumb, you may get a look like this…
Or if I was really crazy, it would be this!
5. Deep conversations with myself
Whatever, don’t pretend like you aren’t talking to yourself in the car! Sometimes if I talk something out in my head, I figure out a solution or I get over something that upset me. It is therapy for free!
That my friends is my Friday Five this week!

Some Days You Just Need an Hour…

I really need to crank out a few posts when I have my creative juices flowing for days like today. I don’t know what I am feeling today. Have you ever had one of those weeks where there isn’t one particular bad event that happened to have you down, but life just wore on you a little and you are trying to bring yourself back up? Does that even make sense at all? Probably not.
I just got back from lunch with one of my super sweet friends. I love our weekly lunches. We talk and chit chat about the little things in life, and then we vent. And vent….and….vent! It feels so good to have a friend that knows exactly how you feel about certain things and can completely relate to you. I swear we trade off on who is having the negative week and who is going to cheer who up!
Sometimes the best therapy in the world is lunch with a sweet friend, and that is what I got today. Some days you just need to get away for an hour!
So that this post isn’t completely Debbie Downer….I am going to leave you with some wonderful motivational pictures…and an announcement! Tomorrow on the blog I have a special post marking a 2 year anniversary of an event that has forever changed my life. I have been working on this post for a few months now. I hope you come back to take a look, and of course…I will be linking up with Joy for the Friday Five as well. 2 posts in one day? I know…I know…keep your excitement to a minimum!
And some penguins because they make me super happy!

Mario, Not Your Average Plumber

When I was falling asleep last night, my Nintendo DS light was blinking on and off because it was sitting on the charger. When I can’t fall asleep…my mind starts to wonder. Usually it is a bunch of random crap and if I spelled out a list you would think I was the most ADD person on the planet. However, last night I got to thinking, what if life was really like Super Mario?
First off, the main object of the game is to get to the castle and save the helpless Princess. Who is whiny and constantly begging Mario to come save her! I am not opposed to being a princess and having someone save me…I am just saying…can we make her look a little less helpless? Although, she rocks it in Mario Kart!
Mario sort of teaches that drugs make you awesome. I’m just sayin’. Take the mushroom for example. You have the red mushroom and the green mushroom. The red one makes you grow and the green one gives you an extra life. Then you have the flower that lets you spit fireballs and the leaf that makes you fly. Is Mario hallucinating all of this stuff? I think he is just tripping…
Mario is sort of violent. I mean, he kills everything he comes in contact with. Maybe he is paranoid from all the drugs? I mean…what did the turtle and the little fish ever do to you?
And why in the world is this Kangaroo so angry? I would throw its eggs back at it too!
Yoshi!!! This is Mario’s equivalent to my dogs. I love Yoshi!
One thing that bothers me about some of the Mario games is the short cuts. I mean, what is that teaching us? To use short cuts to get through life? Not the best lesson, Mario! Warp zone my ass! Short cuts come at the cost of the fun journey through these different lands!
Mario does teach us that hard work will pay off. And by hard work, I mean busting everything with your head. Don’t try this in real life kids!
Mario also teaches us to stop before we leap! You NEVER know what you might be getting in to!
My favorite thing about Mario is leveling up. From now on, that is what I do too!
There is no such thing as game over, you know that from just looking at the actual Nintendo! I don’t think there is any life lesson better than that.
Mario and Luigi may be “just plumbers” but their lives are pretty extraordinary anyways.
And that my friends is what went through my mind last night as I fall asleep. Your welcome.

Paws to Claws

So I found out there was a pet link up…and you know I am crazy obsessed with my furbabies and love to show them off, so this was a duh I must participate! You know I am linking up to shamelessly dump some pics on you! Thanks Mallory for the link up!
So let me introduce you to my furbabies!
Gracie – 7 year old Puggle (Pug/Beagle mix) who loves to snuggle, chew on bones, clean her feet, wonder in the yard, sniff out new smells, and watch after her crazy little brother. She loves blankies! All the blankets in our house some how become hers! She is VERY stubborn, but very smart. She is the most loyal dog on the planet. Chris calls her my shadow. And yes…she does have the beagle whine and the beagle howl.

Mac – Soon to be a 3 year old Maltipoo (Maltese/Poodle mix) who has no manners, no social skills, and does not listen. He is a hot mess! However, he is the sweetest most attention crazed little dog I have ever known. This little boy is full of personality and he isn’t afraid to let you know when he doesn’t like something, when there are people walking outside, or if there is a butterfly in the back yard. Or birds in the sky. Or other cars driving in the neighborhood. I think you get the point! He also loves his big sister!

Freankin’ adorable, right? Love those two!

First Things First

Linking up with Halie, Joanna and Kaitlyn for another week of First Things First!
First thing I would do/buy if you won the lottery

If I won the lottery, I would pay off my student loans, then buy our dream home. It wouldn’t be something completely ridiculous, but something really nice that we would have forever! I would put some money in to savings, and donate some.  I would also want to take a really nice vacation with Chris, we never got a honeymoon.

First person I call when I get amazing news

Either my husband or my mom.

First thing I do when I’ve had a bad day

If I am at work, I grab a diet coke and  gchat or text my husband. After I vent, I try to forget about it and move on. No use letting a bad day run my life! Oh, and a snuggle from my Puggle always helps!
