Weekend Shenanigans

Good morning blog world. I am not quite sure how it could possibly be Monday already, I want a recount. In true bad blogger fashion, I don’t have a single picture to show for this weekend. Oops.

Friday – For lunch the coworkers and I headed over to Chipotle. Yum yum yummity yum! I did manage to sneak a picture of my chicken burrito bowl before devouring the entire thing!

Friday evening Chris and I headed over to his sisters after work and helped them move furniture and have some Mexican food. Can you believe the restaurant left out all of our rice? Rude! No worries, I made up for it in the amount of chips and salsa I consumed.

Saturday – Chris had to work this weekend, so Saturday I was on my own. I cleaned the entire house, had my tires balance and rotated and headed out to finish up some mothers day and birthday shopping! I managed to sneak a quick trip to the outlets in there too! The Loft was calling my name! I then headed to pick up the food for Sunday’s lunch with my mom and sister.

When I got home, I had received this package in the mail from Influenster!!! A full post review to come on that soon.

Sunday – I spent an hour and 45 minutes trying to get Mac to settle down so I can give him a fur cut and bathe both him and Gracie. Gracie just sat on the floor in the living room the whole time, watching me follow Mac around back and forth on the counter clipping what I could. He is so lucky he is cute…he was wearing on my patience! I was exhausted by the time we were done cutting and bathing…I didn’t even get to capture a picture of his new do! Maybe I will sneak one tonight. Meanwhile, there literally was an entire Target bag full of Mac hair. I am pretty sure I could have sewn together another dog with all that fur!

I then got ready, and headed over to my mom’s house for lunch! My sister and I brought food, and Tracy was genius and brought paper plates too so that there was no mess to clean up! We had BBQ chicken and pork (what I had picked up the day before), baked beans, cole slaw, spinach dip and crackers, and Tracy made a homemade carrot cake!

Last night we went to Chris’s sister’s house to celebrate with their parents and had Jim ‘n Nicks catered (BBQ two times in one day for me) and they surprised Chris with a cookie cake to kick off his birthday week!

That’s right, his birthday is tomorrow! I plan on taking the day off to spend with him! Yay!

I hope everyone has a fabulous week!

The Person I Miss the Most

Day 12: What do you miss most (a person, place, thing, a time in your life…)

The person that I miss most in the entire world in my Grandma Jerry. My Grandma Jerry passed away the summer between my sophomore and junior year of high school. She lived in Greensburg, PA (where I am from), and we lived in Georgia at the time. We got to see her a few times a year, usually around the holidays and once in the summer each year after we moved.

My Grandma Jerry was an amazing woman. She always had the right words to say and great advice for any situation. I just loved to spend time with her, stay up late and have girl talk. I spent so much time with her when I was a child. She would have me sleep over a lot, and we would watch movies and she would play with me and tell me stories. We even had this game we would play where she would build a fort for me with all the couch cushions and I would be a little big and she would pretend she was the big bad wolf and try to get into my fort.

She would make me roast beef sandwiches, and she always had Cherry Pepsi and my favorite grape and cherry taffy at her house when I came! Anytime I was having a hard time, she was always there for me to talk to.

We all know I am scared of storms, well even thunder and lightening used to scare me when I was young. My Grandma used to say that it was just the people in Heaven having fun and bowling. That the thunder was the bowling ball going down the lane…and when you heard the lightening crack you knew someone got a strike. I always think of that every time there is a thunder storm.

I remember one time I was expressing how much I missed her when we came back to visit. She sat on the couch next to me and told me to look out the window. She said,  “You see those starts out there? I can see the same starts you can see. Next time you feel lonely, look out there at them and know I am looking with you.” (Cue the tears flowing down my cheeks)

Those words really stuck with me. The day that we traveled back to PA for her funeral, my mom, dad, sister and I were walking around her neighborhood. I remember what she said and I looked up at the sky. I asked my dad if he thought Grandma could see us. He said, of course she can. I looked back up, and there was one star that was shining VERY brightly compared to all the rest (and no it wasn’t the North star.) I just knew it was her! Sometimes to this day, I look up at the sky and every once in awhile her start is shining brightly and I know she is with me.

This may sound crazy, but sometimes….Gracie will come cuddle up with me for no reason at all and when she starts to get close…she smells like my Grandma’s perfume.

A few years ago my mom and I went back to PA to visit my other Grandma and some family. We decided to go to the church that I was baptized in and attended every Sunday with my Grandma Jerry. The church is not very big, maybe 100 members? Well we decided to sit in the back, because I knew everyone used to sit in the same seats when I went.

During the middle of the service, an elderly women who I thought I recognized looked over at me and smiled and said to her daughter, “Hey look, Jerry is attending today!” She thought I was my Grandmother. My mom said that I really do look just like she used to. I went home that night and looked in the mirror and realized that our eyes are the same color…and that my eyes change just the way hers used to. That is the biggest compliment I have ever received in my entire life. My Grandmother was beautiful and for someone to mistaken me for her…well all I can do is smile.

It Has Been 6 Months!?

Today is our 6 month wedding anniversary! It is amazing that 6 months has already gone by, yet at the same time it is crazy to think that it was only 6 months ago that we got married!

So in honor of our anniversary, I would like to share a few of the things I have learned as a newlywed.

1. Never go to bed angry

2. Always say I love you on the phone and when you are parting ways for the day

3. Do not sweat the little things

4. Chose your battles

5. Realize that not every thing that you do is going to be perfect…and even more important…note everything your spouse does will be perfect either

6. Embrace all the little, every day moments

7. Always kiss goodnight

8. Encourage each other in everything that you do

9. Communication is key to every problem

10. Realize that some things you can not change, you knew these things before you got married and therefore…you can’t get frustrated about it!

Always look to 1 Corinthians for advice when you need it.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps not records of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. -1 Corinthians

Friday Five

the Sowell life

Linking up with Joy for the Friday Five!

1. Sweet Notes – Chris and I had to swing by my office last weekend to pick up my notary stuff, and while I stopped by the restroom…he put a sweet note in my chair 🙂 (He also wrote his birthday on my calendar with a reminder of what he wants lol.) I guess I will keep him around. Today is our 6 month wedding anniversary!  (Separate post on that is schedule for today!)
2. Gracie – She will find the most random sunny spot in the yard, and just park herself. The other morning was no exception. It is so funny to see a dog randomly sitting in the very back of our back yard away from everything. Homegirl just wanted her Vitamin D!

3. Balsamic Chicken – Made some balsamic chicken and green beans for dinner this week. it was pretty good!
4. Lunch – It has been a little less than exciting this week. I have had all vegetables every day except for Wednesday. Because Wednesday was lunch with Amanda at Ashley Mac’s, duh! This is cranberry spinach salad with Poppy Seed dressing, carrots with red pepper humus and snap peas with light blue cheese. There was also an apple involved in all this. Don’t forget the LARGE glass of water that I fill about 5-6 times a day at work.
5. Fish – I made fish for the first time ever last night. I chose talipia and it wasn’t anything fancy….but it turned out pretty good! I just brushed some olive oil and lemon pepper seasoning on it, and baked it in the over. I served it with the Whole Grain Blend by Near East, it was chicken flavored.

Happy Friday Everyone!!!!!
