You guys are truly amazing! I started this blog not really knowing what to expect. I wanted a place to write about what was going on in my current life, things that I think about, etc. to be able to look back on later. I am not a big blog, and I probably never will be. For me it is not about numbers on my GFC or page views per day. Everyday you all leave the most amazing, encouraging sweet comments. If I just made one other person feel uplifted, or made you feel that there was someone else out there that understands your view on something…then I feel blessed and happy.
I just want to say thank you for sticking around these parts. For welcoming me into Blog Land. For the most amazing connections that I have made with people I may have never “met” otherwise. I may have started this blog for me in the beginning, but you all keep me coming back every day! I love that this has turned into my “hobby,” and I have you to thank for it!
I have posted before about how I am struggling with myself in the weight department. In my free time, when I am not reading and commenting on all your blogs, I like to read articles that may inspire me or give me some ideas on what to do. I came across this article the other day, and it interested me. If they really did put how much exercise was required to burn the calories in foods, it really would make me think twice about some things! I know when making decisions that some things are obviously healthier than others…but if you saw that it took 141 minutes on the elliptical to burn off a cheeseburger and fries, you may not be tempted to splurge after all and have a lighter option.
This article talked about how they gave 3 menu options to a group of people. One had just the menu, a menu with calories and a menu with exercise you’d have to do to burn it off. I know for me, just having the calorie count on the menu makes me think twice about a lot of things! What about you?
What are some of your favorite weight loss/diet articles? I would love to take a look at them!
Day 25: Something someone told you about yourself that you’ll never forget (good or bad)
I didn’t really date in middle school or high school. There were boys that I had crushes on or flirted with, and there were guys that I was friends with…but I never had a “boyfriend.” I started dating the summer after I graduated from high school. Most of the people that I have “dated” have been people I met online. At first it was people I met through AIM Chat Rooms (that was the cool thing back then, OK!!!) then in most recent years it was online dating sites.
I never understood why I never had drinks bought for me, or why I wasn’t hit on while being out often. A lot of my friends have stories about how some guy asked for their number at a bar, or had a silly pick up line while waiting at the meat counter at the grocery store. Nope not me.
One day when I was in college, I asked one of my really close guy friends why I never met anyone out. I said to be brutally honest with me. Tell me that I am fat, or not friendly….maybe my hair looks wack. Tell me something that I can fix! He looked at me and said, “Nadine, you are unapproachable.” What the hell does that even mean?!
Apparently, I am the nicest person you’d ever meet…if you have the courage to come up and speak to me. He said that to guys I looked like I was either taken or not interested in speaking to guys. That the way I carry myself is with confidence and that it was intimidating to guys.
I don’t really know how that happened, it wasn’t how I saw myself at all. To this day I am not quite sure what unapproachable even means. I guess I don’t really have to worry about it anymore, I am married now. Ha! I did meet my husband online too, so maybe there is something to his theory. Chris knew I was sweet and interested before he met me. Maybe I would have scared him off otherwise?
I am going to do today’s Friday Five beach style. That’s right! One of my favorite vacation destinations is the beach. It doesn’t matter what beach…just give me the ocean and some sand and I am one happy girl! My husband’s family has a condo in Gulf Shores, Alabama and we try to visit there at least once a year, sometimes more if we can squeeze it in! There are 5 things that are musts for my beach trips!
1. The views. Duh! There is nothing more beautiful than the ocean, some white sand and the sun (or moon for that matter.) I love to just stare at the ocean while we are down there. Hear the waves crashing in, the sun rising and setting. It really makes you appreciate the beauty in life and nature.
2. The food! We have a routine every time we come to the beach it seems. We go to the grocery store and get stuff to make sandwiches and the purple bag of Dorito’s (Spicy Sweet Chili). It is the only time I ever eat Dorito’s, so I make the most of it! We also try to grab some meats to grill out one night. My other favorite thing to do is hit up some of our favorite restaurants! Our number one choice is Calypso Joe’s. It has a wonderful atmosphere and overlooks the marina. I love to sit outside and enjoy the wonderful food!
3. The hot tub. We have several hot tubs in our condo complex. Our favorite thing to do is go sit in the outdoor hot tub at night with some adult beverages. You can see the ocean from there and it is so relaxing and amazing. Sometimes there are other people down there and you can make some new friends! We always do!
4. The pool. Sometimes it gets too hot in the hot tub, and we hit up the pool! I love just floating around in there. You can see the ocean from the pool too, see a theme?
5. The outlet mall. We have an outlet mall about 20 minutes from my house, but it isn’t that big. The outlet mall down here is amazing! I love hitting up some of my favorite stores there!
What is your favorite thing about going to the beach? Have a great weekend!
