I Might Have a Problem

One of my favorite things about fall is that all of my beloved TV shows start back up! Once you see my list of regulars, you will realize I have no life and wonder what I do with my summers when there are no new episodes. I will tell you what I do….I find new shows to watch and get addicted to!

Here we go, in no particular:

How I Met Your Mother

I have watched this show from the beginning, and while I admit that the last 2 seasons haven’t been quite as on par with the rest of the series….I faithfully tune in each week because I cant get enough from Lilypad and Marshmallow’s love or Barney Stinson’s awesome playbook and brocode. After all, it is legen wait for it dary! Legendary!

The Big Bang Theory

I love nerds, obviously…I married an IT nerd and our basement is full of retro gaming systems and I freaking love it! I love each character on this show for many reasons. Sheldon cracks me up and his view on things is hilarious. This show has never had a bad episode. Ever. I can watch rerun after rerun and crack up every. damn. time. If you ask me what my favorite show is, this is the first one that pops in my head.

Revenge

Holy suspense! Revenge is just awesome. While the show sometimes steers away from the actual revenge…I love it! I love to hear Emily speak, she is so eloquent. Plus, Daniel Grayson is totally hot and I love Nolan. His one liners are hysterical!

Pretty Little Liars

Don’t ask me why…but I am completely hooked to this high school drama and I cant get enough! I just started watching this show over the summer and have caught up to the current season in a matter of just a few weeks. Judge away….but you know you are a closet fan!

Vampire Diaries

Another show you can judge me for. I don’t care, this show freaking rocks! In love with a character? Be careful they might kill them off in the next episode, but in a world full of vampires, witches and werewolves no need to fear…I am sure they will be back! This is another show that I just started watching this summer and caught up with the current season in a matter of like 2 weeks. I don’t know how I am going to ever wait a week between episodes….seriously!

Scandal

We just started watching this show last week. We are almost caught up, just a few episodes in season 2 left to go. This show is amazing. The storylines are great, and I love Olivia Pope. I would totally hire her if I got in a jam. And Huck? Huck might be creepy, but he cracks me up!!!

Modern Family

I love this show. Phil is freaking hilarious! It is light hearted and funny, and a true depiction of how modern families really are.

Law and Order SVU

My true and faithful. I have been watching this show FOREVER. Plus, it helps that they always have marathons on TV during the week and on weekends. Lazy Sunday? Chances are it is thanks to SVU. Procrastinating distractions when I  in college? This show. LOVE it. Though, it has caused me to be a paranoid freak. I thought the show was going to never be the same when Stabler left, boy was I wrong! I love the new cast just as much.

Grey’s Anatomy

I remember the very first episode I watched of Grey’s. It was the first season finale, my friend Liz said I just HAVE to see it. Snow Patrol Crashing Cars started to play and my life was never the same. Every year Chris and I wait until the end of the season and watch the entire season in like one weekend. So don’t any of you dare spoil it for me!

New shows that I will try:

Ravenswood –

The spin off of Pretty Little Liars. I am intrigued to see what this will be about.

The Originals –

The spin off of Vampire Diaries. I seriously love Klaus, Elijah and Rebecca and will totally watch a show just about them. Though, I am scared of there being something missing on Vampire Diaries without them.

That is a lot of TV! Yeah, I might have a problem! You will notice there are no reality TV shows clogging up my brain though…so there’s that. Although, anytime I am home alone…I try and see if there is a Keeping Up With the Kardashian’s episode on TV. I can’t help myself….they make me feel normal 🙂 And I love Khloe. She is the only one that is have way decent and keeps shit real.

Chris and I watched the first two episodes of Brooklyn Nine Nine last night. We think this show might have some potential. If nothing else, the Allstate Mayhem guy is in it, need I say more??
So, what are your favorite shows? You think I am missing out on anything?

Not Every Move Can Be Epic

Today’s topic: Write about a time you screwed up, a mistake you’ve made.

There is epic, and then there is epic fail. Am I right? Not every decision we make is going to be the best one. I firmly believe that we learn from our mistakes, and some of our mistakes make us who we are today.

I am not perfect. There are many things I probably could have done differently. I could sit here and tell you all the mistakes that I have dated, and boy there were some doozies. But Rascal Flatts couldn’t have written more perfect lyrics about that:

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
that led me straight to you
There are many times that I have put my foot in my mouth and said something I regret. There are some outfits that have been mistakes. There were some events I should have attended and missed out on. I am human, I make lots of mistakes.

I think that one of my biggest mistakes that I have made was rushing through the motions of college. I was so concerned about graduating in four years that I stuck with the major that I picked for myself upon starting college. I didn’t want to be one of those people that stayed 5-7 years because they changed courses half way through more than once! I thought if I stuck with one major and dedicated myself to it, I would look responsible and driven.

Now? Those years came and went so quickly. I didn’t have near the fun I should have had. I didn’t focus on what I truly wanted to do with my life. To this day, I still don’t know what it is that I want to do. I don’t want to be one of those people that just does what they need to do to get by in their career, I don’t want to live for Friday and the weekends. I want to truly ENJOY what I do every day.

I read a statistic somewhere about how only about 34% of Americans are truly and completely satisfied with what they do. Considering that what you do takes up the majority of your life, it really is a damn shame. I watched my dad suffer through 30+ years at his company, hating every bit of it. I watch my mom work her ass off at her job, just hoping that she can make it until she is 55 to collect retirement and find something else. I don’t want to be like that.

If I would have stayed in school a little longer and focused on what I really enjoyed, maybe I wouldn’t have wasted my twenties bouncing around from job to job in the same field…clinging to my degree like it was some sort of road map for my life and wondering why I was lost.

My advice to those of you who are younger, embrace your college years! Take a few classes because you think it will be interesting, not because they are required or they look good on your resume. Have some fun while you are there, be serious about class but be care free as well!

On a completely lighter note, it is HUMP DAY bitches and it is time to blog hop with Liz!

Things I Am Loving

So today’s topic is to review a book, place or product. Instead of doing just one item, I want to tell you about a few things I am loving right now!

1. Pumpkin Pie Spice Creamer

photo.JPG

Holy yum! Can’t afford to drive thru Starbucks every morning for the PSL this fall? No problem, you will hardly miss them once you add this creamer to your coffee! Why is it out only in the fall? Like Peppermint Mocha, this should be around all year!

2. Target’s Cartwheel App

I know I spoke of this yesterday in my post, but I see you haven’t taken me seriously. If you shop at Target for ANYTHING, you need to download this free bag of money pronto. Let me explain how it works. You download the app, you sign in through your Facebook account and you begin picking out coupons for products that you are going to purchase anyways. You don’t like free money? Then send me some, because obviously you have too much! The more Facebook friends of yours that use the app, the more coupons you can chose each week. You start out with 10. You can change the coupons in and out each trip and you can purchase up to 6 items in one transaction with the discount! This discount is ON TOP of any other coupons you might have or the 5% you get for paying with your red card.

3.  Green Monster Smooties

That’s right folks. I am back to serious, and every morning before I head to work I blend up some spinach, almond milk, yogurt, strawberries and bananas and get to chugging. And you know what? I actually like it! I need to get some more chia seeds or flaxseeds or something to put in there since I am being for real about them again. Any recommendations?

4. Amy’s Burrito

If you are looking for a quick lunch idea, these burrito’s are pretty tasty! I like to pair it with left over Spanish rice when I have tacos, salsa chicken or enchiladas from the night before. My favorite so far has been this one pictures, it has cheese and beans and is super quick and yummy.

If you live in the Birmingham area and have not been, you have got to check out Saw’s BBQ. Pictured above is their chicken baker (baked potato, bbq chicken, cheese, butter, sour cream, bacon and green onions.) My mouth is watering just remembering how awesome this was for lunch! There are a few locations, Homewood, Mountain Brook and there is one near Avondale Brewery. I have been to the Avondale and Mountain Brook locations and both were equally wonderful. The Avondale one can be a trouble to park if it is right at noon during the week because it gets PACKED OUT because it is that good!

Anything you are just loving lately? I am always up for trying something new!

Life Lately and Weekend Shenanigans

Today’s Topic: A “life lately” post. What you’re up to, how you’re feeling, how you’re doing on your goals, etc!

Life lately has seemed to be filled with the same ol’ same ol’ for the most part. Wake, pout in bed for 3-5 minutes about how I don’t feel like getting up at 4:30 am, work out with Jillian as she calls me a fatty, get ready, go to work, come home and cook, watch a little TV, repeat!

I am so excited that fall is upon us! Fall means football, pumpkin flavored and scented everything, leaves changing colors, smores, sweaters, boots, scarves, crisp air, and one happy Nadine! I mean seriously, who doesn’t love fall?!

As far as goals go….I have been getting up at 4:30 am Monday-Friday to work out. I was really happy with my 30 Day Shred results, but I haven’t seen much of a difference since I started Ripped in 30. While I have just started week 3 today, I feel as though I haven’t seen anything change. Now, I could blame this on the DVD, but it is my fault. While I am not eating TERRIBLY, I am certainly not being good. I wasn’t cheating as much when I was doing the 30 Day Shred and I am starting to believe more and more that abs are made in the kitchen.

I am going to have to step it up if I want my work offs to truly pay off by eating better. I need to be clean 80-100% of the time, not 40-50% of the time. The Goldfish crackers, tortilla chips and cheese slices all need to go. I need to start back with green monster smoothies in the mornings for breakfast, and eat healthy for lunch and dinner Monday-Friday for sure. I will allow some room for cheats on Saturday and Sunday, but not for every meal. Maybe once cheat for Saturday and one cheat for Sunday. That is going to be A LOT harder now that football season is upon us and I have so many yummy temptations. I will find healthier ways to enjoy the games. And less beer on the weekends. Beer is not good for the belly. Unless you want a beer belly, then it is perfect!

Another goal I have been working on the last few weeks is redesigning my blog all on my own. (Well, I am enlisting my IT husband for a few pointers and such…but no blog designers.) You may notice my new nifty favicon. I have my new header ready to go, am working on new buttons, roll over images, etc., etc. I am hoping to have it all rolled out at once in the next week or two.

There isn’t much to report from this weekend. Chris had to work all weekend, so Saturday I cleaned the house, did laundry, and bathed the dogs. That took about 4 hours of my day. I painted my finger nails, something I rarely do. Then meal planned and went grocery shopping. Speaking of grocery shopping, have you all checked out the Cartwheel app that Target has?! If not….you must download immediately. You can save additional money on items you pick from on top of coupons and their 5% red card discount. Why wouldn’t you do it? Maybe you like to spend more money for no reason?? The app is free, go check it out. Your welcome.

After grocery shopping, I stopped by Starbucks to get a PSL…and something awesome happened! The car in front of me paid for my drink and told the cashier to tell me “Roll Tide!” And that is why I love Alabama fans 🙂 I will pay it forward next time I am there for sure! It basically made my day, and I would love for someone else to feel the way that I did.

Saturday evening Chris and I went to Best Buy just to look around, and then stopped at his parents house for a bit. Afterwards, we caught some of the Alabama game, ROLL TIDE and we did watch some of the Auburn/LSU game as well. Surprisingly, I was rooting for Auburn to win…something I rarely do.

Sunday I worked on my blog design for a few hours, then headed up to my Dad’s house in Ashville. His birthday is today, happy birthday Dad, so my sister and I put a lunch together for him and spent some time up there. Afterwards, I drove back home and met up with Chris after he got off work. We enjoyed some time out on our deck with the dogs, then headed to dinner with his parents. Overall, a great weekend minus the fact that Chris had to work!

I hope all of you have a fabulous week.

Friday Five- Fall Transition Pieces

It’s Friday and you know what that means: the least productive day of your work week and linking up with Joy!

the Sowell life
So, according to the news the other night, fall will arrive on Sunday at exactly 3:44 pm. Do you know where I will be? Standing outside with open arms and a huge smile. Fall? YES PLEASE! What took you so long?
It got me thinking about transitional pieces into the season. I love nothing more than a good excuse to go shopping! This is my list of the five must haves for the transition in to fall!
1. Booties – It isn’t quite cold enough to wear the full on boot, but you are itching to look all fall like.
2. 3/4 length sleeves – Its not HOT but it’s not COLD. Like the Bootie, 3/4 sleeves are the perfect balance into transition.
3. Collar Jacket – Need to look put together? A collared jacket will have you looking chic and together in no time. Pair this with a pair of dress pants or jeans and you are good to go!
4. Scarves – Hello, who missed scarves over the summer? I think we all did!
5. Flats – The flip flops of cooler weather. Now if only you could buy them worn in, am I right?
And that my friends, is how you transition into fall! I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! And as always, ROLL TIDE!
