What Does Your Car Color Say About You

So, this morning I was sitting in my car on I-59…something that has become an every day thing since people can’t seem to figure out how to drive around here…I digress. I looked around and noticed the sea of white, black and silver. What happened to colored cars?

Am I the only one who has noticed that the blues, reds. greens. yellows and other car colors out there are disappearing more and more every year? I am not really one to help the cause, my last car was Gold and my current car is Gotham Gray…but seriously…what has happened?

A lot of the older classics had super fun names like tangerine orange, peak green, sky blue, banana yellow. While some of those, pea green, are less than appealing today….I don’t think that colors themselves should completely disappear.

I did some research on this, because it really bothered me. Obviously our tastes have changed over the years. We tend to be more conservative with the ways these look these days. Think about newer neighborhoods. You find that most of the houses look similar, and are all of the same family of colors…usually earthy. Back in the day houses used to be crazy. It wasn’t uncommon to see green or pink homes. Anyone remember the book Mr Pine’s Purple House?

I loved that book! My grandma used to read it to me all the time. Anyways…the same goes for cars I suppose. Our tastes seem to have changed, and rarely do people venture into fun colors unless you are driving some sort of sports car.

Apparently the paint technology has changed. Back in the day, colors used to be much more pigmented, but flat. Cars just weren’t as glossy. These days, there are swirls and dimension in the paint color to show movement. The paint colors of the 1970’s were more brittle and not as long lasting. The standards are much more strict today on what is allowed. Even cars that are red or blue today tend to be darker, more muted colors than the reds of the past. The polyurethane technology of today is what you can thank for the ultimate glossy look that we know so well.

So what does the color of your car say about you? According to iVillage:

Back: Powerful, Classic, Elegant
White: Pure, Pristine, Direct
Pearl: Glamorous, Exciting, Sophisticated
Silver: Futuristic, Prestigious, Elegant
Red: Sensual, Dynamic, Outgoing
Gray: Neutral, Sober, Practical
Light-Mid Blue:Calm, Faithful, True
Dark Blue: Confident, Credible, Authoritative
Orange: Artistic, Individual, Complex
Brown: Powerful, Unique
Beige: Down to earth
Yellow: Joyful, Sense of humor
Dark Green: Well balanced, trustworthy
Light Green: Organic, No-fuss, Understated
Gold: Warm, Intelligent, Glamorous

So basically in high school I was sensual, dynamic and outgoing. I then became warm, intelligent, and glamorous and now I am basically boring with being neutral, sober and practical. Lovely.

Vampires, Witches and Wolves….oh my!

So, Chris and I started watching the Vampire Diaries a while back. Go ahead and judge away….you have NO CLUE what you are missing out on. The story line is never boring and Damon’s one liners crack me up!!!

It got me thinking. Have you ever believed in the super natural? Could it be possible that vampires, witches and werewolves exist among us? While I don’t necessarily believe in any of that stuff….it is fun to think about. What if you were a vampire and lived for hundreds of years and never showed signs of aging? It would be pretty cool because you could experience so many different ways of life. Keep starting over somewhere new when you get bored or want to try something else out.

Of course, I would have to be a “good vampire” and not kill for human blood. Blood alone freaks me out. And have you noticed that all male vampires are HOTTT. Stephan and Damon, yum yum yes please! Edward from Twilight…hellloooo! Of course there are downfalls, like having to keep secrets from people and hiding who you truly are. Plus the pesky werewolves always out to destroy you and such. Nature likes to keep things balanced.

We watch a few episodes every night before we go to bed, and I have got to be honest…they consume my dreams sometimes. One morning I remember right before I woke up someone asked me why I liked being a vampire and I said, “Because I stay young forever and never show signs of aging!” Plus how convenient is it for all if the humans in that show to cheat death several times just because they have a crafty witch around. (Like my pun.)

Last night we were watching an episode, and it really got me thinking…what if I were in this situation. Not to give too much information away, as I hate spoilers, but if you were given the choice to do something to help someone that you love, even if it might be considered wrong, in order to save their life…would you do it? Would it be harder to live with the consequences of what you did to save them or would it be harder to live with yourself knowing you could have done something to save them and you didn’t?

The show has so many twists and turns in it. So many characters get killed off and come back. I just love it! It does have me thinking quite often about what I would do in certain situations. They always call certain losses “collateral damage.” Not quite sure how I feel about that.

Also, vampires have the ability to turn off their emotions. Sometimes I wish I could do that!

Weekend Shenanigans

It’s that time again….WEEKEND SHENANIGANS!!!

Friday: I met up with some friends for lunch at Ashley Mac’s. Yum yum yummy! I miss being so close to it during the work week, I had to take advantage while I was over that way on Friday! I always get the same thing, 1/2 chicken salad sandwich, baby blue salad and a sour cream biscuit.

Friday evening Chris and I decided to head out to grab something to eat and look for a new pair of sunglasses for him. We headed to Trussville, which was our first mistake. Trussville has taken a turn for the worse the last few years…and I think we are just about done with the whole area! We went to La Bamba to grab some Mexican. We sat outside on the patio, where there were 3 other tables out there. We sat out there for about 8 minutes before someone ever came out. When the person did come out, they checked on another table and walked back in. Never said have you been helped? Or be back one minute. Rude! So then we headed to Jim n Nicks. The one in Trusville is almost always a huge mistake. The server was very snappy and rude with us before we even placed our drink order…so we walked away from there as well. NONE of the stores in Trussville carry the sunglasses that Chris wanted either. They only had the cheapest ones marked up way more than they should have been.
We said screw it and headed over to Cahaba Heights. We ate at Blackwell’s Pub for dinner. A beer was much needed after dealing with a bunch of stupid people!
Mmmmm…..banana bread beer! Yum!

We also got the pub nachos and onion petals! The food was great, and I am sure we will be back.

Saturday we got up and headed out in the search for glasses. We found a great pair at Marks Outdoors in Vestavia. We also picked out some car audio for Chris’s car and ran some errands. We ended up at World of Beer. It was Saturday, afterall!
This is my first pumpkin beer of the season. Yum!!!!

More banana bread beer? Don’t mind if I do!

Sunday was spent at the grocery store and watching Vampire Diaries. We started season 4 last night! Such a great show. Also, we turned the VMA’s on just in time to see JT and NSYNC! High school me died a little. Ahhhhh bring back NSYNC!
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Back to the grind we go!

Friday Five

It is Friday people! The day we spend Monday-Thursday pining for week after week. (Unless you are on vacation!)

I am linking up with Joy for the Friday Five! Like you would think any less?

the Sowell life

1. I’ve Gone Rogue

Embedded image permalink

That is…my sweet ride is back from collision! It was like this day would never come. I dropped my car off last Monday to repair the boo boo’s that the accident left on my car’s behind. They told me my car would be done Friday. Well on Thursday it changed to Monday. On Monday I never heard anything so I called and never got a return call. Tuesday I called and they said they would have to check on things and call me back. FINALLY yesterday I got a call saying my baby was all put back together again, Humpty Dumpty style, and they were going to clean her up and I could come pick her up in the morning. I was there the minute the shop opened to turn in my keys to the clown car! The Rogue was waiting out front for me. YES! I might have kissed the steering wheel when I got inside and breathed deeply  the entire way to work, soaking in my air freshener that I missed so much!

2. The Shred

I finished The Shred and wanted to share my thoughts. While I didn’t loose any weight, I can tell a HUGE difference in my arms and abs. They are more defined, and you can actually see muscle again. I have a lot more work to do, but it certainly gave me the start I was looking for. If you are like me and need to see results to stay motivated, I suggest letting Julian kick your ass for 30 days.

3. Blog Design

I am in the process of changing up my blog design. Finally. I am determined to figure it all out on my own, and not give in and call one of the fabulous designers out there. Or at least I think I wont. Did I mention that I HATE HTML?

4. Rain

As in…rain rain go away come again another day…several weeks from now would be good thanks! It has legit rained about every day for ohhh I dunno….weeks on end here in Alabama. James Spann says we are in for a drier trend for the weekend. I hope you are right James. If I see a drop of water this weekend I might lose it. Our back yard looks like a scene from Jumanji and I am pretty sure the dogs do not appreciate the jungle.

5. NSYNC

So, unless you live under a rock you might have heard that there is a chance that NSYNC will be reunited at the VMA’s! If they don’t preform together I am pretty sure all hell will break loose around the country as us 30 year olds and late twenty something’s cause a riot. WE WANT NSYNC WE WANT NSYNC.

Happy Friday! I hope that everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Break Room Etiquette

Soooo in an effort to be as healthy as possible most of the time, I try to bring my lunch to work most days. I reserve eating out for lunch to lunch dates with my friends. Needless to say, I have spent my fair share of time in break rooms over the years. With all that time spent, I think maybe perhaps we all need a lesson in break room etiquette.

The Microwave – Ahhh yes. The good old nuke ’em machine. Did you know that it is not OK to let your food explode inside of it without cleaning it up? It is rude to the next person that uses it. My husband likes to do that at home. Pisses me off. But you know what….at least it is in our home where just the two of us use it. In public, not cool.

You know what else is not cool, leaving your food in the microwave for a LONG time. There are other people that would like to use it, and don’t want to be rude and touch your food. If you are cooking something for 5 minutes….then you need to be back in the kitchen in 5 minutes 1 second to collect your shit.

The Dishwasher – It is 2013 and we shouldn’t be strangers to how this appliance works. Unless you are my sister, she doesn’t believe in them. That is neither here nor there. But seriously. The concept of the dishwasher is that it is going to wash your dishes for you. So do yourself and most importantly, your coworkers, a favor and put your dishes in the dishwasher. DO NOT LEAVE THEM IN THE SINK. Or on the counter. Or at the table. Or wherever else they don’t belong. You aren’t a five year old, and your wife mom isn’t here to clean up after you. Rude.

Food – It is not OK to take food out of the community refrigerator that is not yours, or understood communal food. Just because there is a container of hummus in there…it doesn’t mean it is free for the taking. Someone is probably counting on eating off that all week. No, you cant have “a taste.”

While on the subject of food, if your break room doesn’t have a door to shut it off…don’t be bringing your stinky ass fish or other nasty smelling stuff up in there. NO ONE wants to smell nasty food all afternoon while they work.

Talking – It is ok to have friendly chatter with your co-workers while they eat. It is not ok to come bother them with work related stuff. They are on the break for heavens sakes! Also, if someone is reading, and they don’t acknowledge that you walked in….they probably want to be left alone. Leave them alone!

Manners – Smacking and eating with your mouth open are things that we learned not to do around the same time we learned how to clean up after ourselves. Just don’t. Please and thank you.

I think that wraps up the basics. If we all follow along by these unspoken rules, we can all enjoy our most coveted hour of the work day.
