Cotton-headed Ninny Muggins

Do you ever feel like a cotton-headed ninny muggins? Of course you do. Don’t we all feel like that sometimes?

September has come and gone, and I am so NOT where I wanted to be goal-wise. I was trying to get my shit together in September and it just didn’t happen. All I get is an honorable mention. I woke up EVERY single weekday morning at 4:30 am and did Jillian Michael’s Ripped in 30 work out. I am currently finishing up my last week. (I started a week in to the month.)

While I am super proud of the fact that I have “shown up to class” in the mornings….I am not so proud of my results. There is something to be said about the fact that abs are made in the kitchen! I am really good about being healthy for breakfast and lunch during the week. I have been drinking my spinach smoothies in the mornings and usually doing soup, salad and a little cottage cheese for lunch. I am pretty good for weeknight dinners. I usually try to cook up something healthy most nights and stick to as close to a portion sized meal as I can. I might have an afternoon snack that consists of a rice cake, chex mix or maybe a few crackers…nothing too crazy. Except for last night, last night I may have had a chocolate chip cookie. or three I have only been drinking water, coffee, and green tea during the week. I have cut out diet sodas pretty much completely. Unless I am eating at a Mexican restaurant…I have to have a diet coke at a Mexican restaurant, it is the law.

So, where do I go wrong you ask? The freakin’ weekends! It starts with Friday nights. We have been on a kick about saving money and not going out on Fridays so we have been doing pizza at home Friday nights. Normally I have 2 pieces max. Not HORRIBLY wrong…but I could do better! Then Saturday and Sunday I pretty much eat whatever the hell I want. Chips and salsa, cheese fries, bar food and beer. Saturday and Sunday basically undo EVERTHING that I work hard on all week. It has become a vicious and tiring cycle and it needs to stop.

This Friday, instead of having frozen pizza, we are going to go out for Sushi and Miso soup. You cant go wrong with some raw tuna and some soup broth. We used to do sushi Fridays before and it worked pretty well. I am also going to cut back on the amount that I cheat during the weekends. Instead of cheating at every meal both Saturday and Sunday, I will allow myself ONE cheat meal. No more real bacon or biscuits in the mornings, no snacking on ridiculousness all day, and I will find healthier options if we go out. I have to have one cheat meal so that I am not completely depriving myself and hating life.

I look at the calendar and see September as a waste of 30 days that I didn’t get serious enough, that I didn’t try hard enough. There is nothing to do but to start over again. It has to be done.

You may ask yourself, what do all of these Elf pictures and GIF have to do with this post? Christmas is my favorite, that’s why.

Now go join the blog hop with Liz because it is HUMP DAAAAAAAYYYYYY!!! And also because Liz rocks. Who doesn’t like the camel and a blog hop?

Something Old

Happy October! My goodness, I cannot believe it is October 1?!?! I also cant believe how dark it is getting so early in the evening. Why is it that this is a huge surprise to me every year? In the spring I will be surprised how long day light lasts, go figure.

The last prompt for Blogtember was yesterday. I never got around to posting because it required me to dig in boxes. Ain’t nobody got time for digging on a Monday! I certainly didn’t want to miss out on the post topic though because I have so many things I want to share it was hard to pick one.

The topic: Share a photo of something old. Maybe something that has a personal history for you, that was passed down to you and has special meaning to you. Tell us about why it is special.

When I was in high school, we lived in Atlanta. Every month on a certain weekend, there would be a HUGE antique show downtown. One weekend my parents thought it would be fun for us to go and check it out. We weren’t really sure what to expect to find at it, but it was something to do.

Upon arrival I was mesmerized by all the different items they had! Sure, there were lots of booths with things you would expect to see at an antique show. Furniture, jewelry, clothing, war memorabilia, etc. What was I interested in you ask? The toys that were popular when I grew up! We were closing in on the 20 year anniversary of many of the toys and shows that were near and dear to my heart. Most specifically the Care Bears!!!

And so began my love for collecting old glasses. The 4 above are just a sampling of the MANY collections that I have obtained over the years. I have Care Bears, Smurfs, Flinstones, Snoopy, Popples, old Disney characters, Looney Toons. Garfield, you name it I have it. Currently they are boxed up in a corner in one of our guest rooms, but I have high hopes of one day either purchasing or having my dad build me a cabinet to display my collection.
Not only does the collection remind me of all the things I loved as a child, but it reminds me of all those weekends I spent with my parents walking around the Lakewood Antiques shows in Atlanta. We spent HOURS and HOURS walking around the different booths. We became regulars and got to know some of our favorite vendors and looked forward to seeing them once a month. I remember laughing with them about some of the stuff we would see, getting excited when we would find a new glass that we didn’t have. It was a great experience and I wouldn’t trade those memories for the world.

Shenanigans

Shenanigans. Just shenanigans, people! Oh how in the world is it Monday already? Why am I so tired? I literally laid on the coach 80% of Sunday watching a Law and Order SVU marathon. But more about that later! It is time for some weekend shenanigans!

Friday – After work Friday, Chris and I headed out to Tide Pride so he could pick up a new Alabama tshirt to wear for Saturday. We made pizza like we do every Friday night and watched the first episode of South Park for the season. Don’t ask me why I still watch this show. It came out when I was in high school and it is one of those shows that I watch out of obligation now. I fell asleep in the first five minutes if that tells you anything.

Saturday- I woke up and did the usual cleaning and made breakfast. Then we headed out for the day! We went to the new Bargain Hunt in Hoover where I scored some Pittsburgh Penguin glasses for ten cents! We also got Chris a beer glass that says “The Day is Only Wasted if I am Not.” We thought that was pretty funny.

We then headed down to World of Beer to watch the GA vs LSU game. What a game, huh? I of course was pulling for the Dawgs and they kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time but were able to pull it out in the end. Yay! We were supposed to meet up with some of our friends at Rare Martini for a football party at 5:30 pm. You ask, football party? Chris won a football party on Facebook and was promised VIP seating for us and friends, free swag and 2 lbs of wings. We called ahead to let them know of our arrival and when we got there, Chris explains it best, “It looks like a dialysis waiting room in here!” So we announced ourselves and said we were there for the football party, one of the guys acted confused and was like well you can sit anywhere. They only had high top tables for 2 set up, not the party of 8 that we had coming. It was dead silent in the whole place, as three old guys sat at separate tables watching the one screen they had up. Chris told them we would need a minute, and we turned around and walked out. Chris called out friends outside and told them about how lame it was in there and that we would be heading back to WOB.

They met us up there, we ordered bar food and watched Alabama take down Ole Miss. Roll Tide! Well our friends decided that if there was free swag to be had, that we needed to head back over there and have it! So….we went back to Rare Martini. Luckily, there were more lively people in there later that evening. I have been there before, and just never really had a good time. I don’t know why, I just don’t like that place. But, sometimes it is the company you are with and not the venue that can make your night! Even though Rare Martini SCREWED us on our bar tab…because I was not drinking there so I knew exactly how much was ordered and they charged us about 3 times as much as should have been charged….we still had an excellent time with our friends!

Even though Rare Martini failed to provide the promised swag….we seemed to manage to find some! I present you with exhibit A and exhibit B.

Sunday – And since I am an old person, Sunday was a day for recovery of said shenanigans. I only had beers at WOB, and nothing to drink at Rare. Was not even buzzing the entire day….and yet I still laid on the couch all day yesterday morning the death of my youth and reminded myself that I simply can not just hang anymore. Either way, it was a fabulous time and I am sure that against my better judgement, it will happen again!
Oh, and by the way….I had the Woodchuck Fall Cider at WOB, and holy fall yummy in a cup! That shit was amazing and wonderful and everything I could ever ask a fall beer to be. You should try some, right now!
And that folks, is the weekend that was. Happy Monday!

5 Blogging Secrets I Need to Know

So I have had this little ol’ blog of mine for nearly a year, and there are some things I just don’t understand. Still. Could someone please answer the following, as they are a blogging mystery to me!!!

1. Who takes all your model like pictures?

Seriously, please fill me in! All of these bloggers are looking all cute in their little outfits and looking all model like and it is obviously not a selfie…so please do tell me who takes your picture? Is it another blogger that lives close by to you? I know it isn’t your husband. It cant be. My husband would literally die laughing if I asked him to take 5 pictures of me in the same outfit with different poses and a serious face. I would NEVER hear the end of it. Oh! The mockery and shame I would receive.

2. How do you have time for all this DIY project work. When did you make Pinterest your job?

I have a full time job. While I understand some bloggers out there are stay at home moms or stay at home wives, I think the majority of you have jobs where you have to leave the house and be at an office of some type for 8-10 hours per day. How in the hell do you have time to post a minimum of 1 new recipe and 1 new DIY craft project a week?! I’m lucky I have time to blog and fit in all of my TV shows. I must learn your superman skills. Also, how do you get all these Pinterest projects to work? I have more fails than I care to admit.

3. Who the hell is Phillip Lim and why have I never heard of him until everyone is writing posts about crying in Target because his bags are sold out:?!

Did I miss something? I have designer bags, and only designer bags. I am a designer bag snob. Yet, I have never heard of Phillip Lim and don’t understand why his bags run so ridiculously high. Is it because I am old and not hip anymore? Please tell me this is not the end for me.

4. Where do you get money to sponsor all these bloggers and pay for an awesome design?

I might know the answer to this….you are selling all your DIY project items on Etsy maybe? If not, like seriously…where does they money come from? I am not a bigger blogger, not really my goal. But I just don’t understand how everyone has money to pay for sponsoring and give aways and $150 blog designs. I am over here like “Hey I am trying to figure out design on my own because this blog makes me no money, so how can I justify to spend money on it?” Plus, I bet $150 would get me a pretty sweet Phillip Lim bag from Target….

5. Grooveshark. WTF?

I am an idiot. I even read Whitney’s post on Grooveshark and yet I still can NOT figure out how to get the damn link to work in my blog posts. It is SOOOOO frustrating. So every Friday I am trying to backthatazzup and I just cant. I promise I have lots of awesome songs to share, I just am not sure of how to share said songs. It is probably most surely my messed up blog design. I promise I am fixing this shit, slow but steady!

Am I the only one who is totally clueless? Are there any blogging mysteries you want to have solved?

I am linking up with Joy today for the Friday Five. Happy Friday!
