weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans – Spending Money and Eating Candy

Happy Halloween! Do kids in your area trick or treat on Halloween or are the parents lame and they do it on Saturdays? I’m sorry, but when I was a kid we did Halloween on Halloween. And I lived in Pittsburgh and it got dark early and some years it even snowed and we were still out there walking from house to house…not being driven in a car on a Saturday at 5pm. People have gotten so lame! I see I am going off on a rant and I am going to stop myself. It’s time for some weekend shenanigans!

Laura and I kicked off Friday with a lunch date at Cocina Superior for Mexican. It has been months since I have had a good enchilada and chips and salsa. This meal was so delicious and what better company than your bestie, am I right? Speaking of besties….she stopped by my office with her adorable T-Rex after his Halloween parade and basically made my afternoon. Kid dinosaurs are the cutest. Just saying.

Friday evening I came home and started washing allllll the baby clothes!!! And then I started hanging them in the closet the way I have my closet organized, by type of top then by color. Well hers is also organized by size too. It was so much fun going through everything again and trying to picture her in them.

Saturday morning I put together the crib mobile and Chris put together the chair. We did a few other nursery related things and then headed out in search of the rest of the have to have now baby items. But first, lunch! We went to Twin Peaks for the first time in Hoover and I have to say I was very impressed with how nice it was inside and how amazing the food was. Taco Mac was one of my favorite Atlanta hang outs and we don’t have one here. I was obsessed with their boneless wings and I think I finally found my favorite Birmingham boneless wings!!! And some amazing Chipotle Queso! Chris cheated on his diet just a tad to share that with me. It was the best!!!

Off to Buy Buy Baby! And Babies R Us. And three Bargain Hunts. We got a crib mattress, sheets, changing pad, changing pad cover, swing and a few other things that have slipped my mind. A successful shopping day for sure! I was freaking exhausted after all that walking around and we basically came home and crashed in front of the TV for the rest of the evening.

Sunday morning I got all the, bedding, sheets and changing pad cover washed and put on and a few other small things done. We headed to try a new restaurant in our area, Casa Fiesta. It was delicious and very well priced! My entire plate was $5.99. Mexican twice in one weekend? Yes, please!!!

We hit up Best Buy and Royal Furniture. We are in search for new furniture for our living room. We found a few things we liked but I think we are going to go out again next weekend to a few other places just to be sure it is what we want and the best deal. I did find a dresser for the nursery there for a very reasonable price though and I think we might be ordering it soon. That and an ottoman for the glider I am about to order will be the final pieces to go in! We picked up a cube shelf for her closet while we were at Target grocery shopping. Everything is finally starting to come together!

Sunday evening I moved the car seat and stroller to my car, made sure the swing was working properly and chilled the efffff out with this guy the rest of the night. I am pretty sure I was passed out in the chair at like 8pm. Party hard.

This whole tick or treating and now some towns only allowing trunk or treats is just bizarre. Same here, as a kid we never went out on any other night other than Halloween. We are taking the boys out after work and interested to see if many others will be out. Mexican food is one my favorites so I am craving all of your food right now!

Trick or Treating was always on Halloween. It’s so odd to me that places have it on different days. I went trick or treating with my Goddaughter on Saturday night and we started in day light! There were so many kids out, it was crazy. We did encounter alot of neighbors who had no idea that the town decided to do Trick or Treating on a Saturday. It was so odd to me that we were trick or treating not on Halloween and in day light. Times have changed since I was a child.

I think we always did Halloween on the day too– and I can definitely relate to there often being snow and half the time we couldn’t even wear our full costumes because we were so bundled up! That queso, and allll of the food look so good! Yay for finding a few new pieces for the nursery and your living room. It’s always so hard to decide on top of making sure you’re getting the best deal.

If I could spend my whole weekend shopping for baby goodies I would be one happy lady! (Despite not having kids… ha.) Such a fun weekend!! I tend to think chips and salsa/cheese taste best from a restaurant. Haha!!

My best friends is pregnant with #2 and this one is a boy (baby #1 was a girl) so I told her that I’m throwing her a shower since baby boy can’t wear his sister’s hand-me-down! Haha!

They’re doing trick-or-treat tonight here but I’m a little bummed because I won’t make it to my hometown in time to see my niece! But otherwise I agree with you! That Mexican food looks so good! That’s one of my favorite meals though we don’t eat it often. Need to change that! We need new living room furniture, too. I noticed last night that one of our couch cushions is completely ripped! Sorry for the long post… hope you have a great Halloween!

Trick or treating should always be on Halloween! I love that you’re getting the house all ready for the baby, the time is flying by so fast!

That Mac mohawk, I love it! We always trick-or-treated on the actual Halloween and I’m hoping for a slew of trick-or-treaters tonight or I’m gonna eat all the candy! Girl you are so ready for baby ;-)!! I love that she has such an organized mama! OK I think I’m eating lunch early because all your yummy food made me super hungry! Happy Halloween and happy week ahead!

Happy Halloween! In my area, we trick or treat on actual Halloween so we will be going tonight even though it’s only going to be around 40 out! I remember being hardcore and going out in the snow many times!

I want all of that Mexican food right now hahaha.

You’re really moving along in the nursery. Yay!

When I was a kid we did Halloween ON Halloween too. I’m pretty sure the kids in my neighborhood where I live now will be going out tonight…unless they did it on Saturday & just didn’t stop by our house haa.

I love Mexican food soo much. I’m also addicted to all things buffalo. I really want that queso & those wings.

I had to cut my dogs hair because it was getting too long.
MMMM… mexican. Gets me every time.
I dont get this whole doing Halloween BEFORE Halloween. What is wrong with today’s kids? So what its on a Monday – makes Monday something to FINALLY look forward to!

It really is so crazy that people want to take their kids trick or treating on Saturday! Um no, I will not pass out candy to your kids except on Halloween, AKA I’m not rewarding bad behavior! it sounds like you had a great weekend filled with lots of great food! I could really go for some chips and salsa right now!

Same here. Halloween was Halloween when I was a kid. I remember one year when some people did it on Saturday because Halloween had fallen on a Sunday; they thought celebrating on a Sunday was wrong. Please. It’s a fun holiday for all ages. Nothing evil about it.

Halloween needs to be on Halloween. I remember trick or treating in the cold rain and snow in Michigan as well. And my Dad always walked with us! I love me some Taco Mac wings! All your Mex looks deelish though. Look at how ready for baby you are? I remember those days so fondly… enjoy getting to crash early at night before she comes!

lol for the last couple of years, something has derailed our halloween in our neighbourhood. a few years ago it was freezing, and then this year it’s on a monday.. i don’t know if we will get any kids. we won’t be in our house, we’ll be in my mother in laws, but hopefully? i like handing out candy and seeing costumes.
wow you guys bought a lot and did a lot! no wonder you were exhausted!

  • Reply Cara October 31, 2016 at 2:07 pm

Mexican food is good for the pregnant soul! Unless of course you suffer with heartburn afterwards haha. I totally agree that Halloween needs to be on Halloween. Thankfully my small town gets it and always does it on the actual day. And I so remember several years that it came a big snow storm..craziness.

Aaaand now I’m craving Mexican! Yay for getting lots of baby stuff checked off the to do list this weekend – can’t wait to see how the nursery is coming together!! Happy Halloween!

Just got back from trick or treating with the kiddo, and now I wish we’d have gone for pizza or Mexican after instead of me trying to cook before we went out. And now I’m darn determined that I’m getting Mexican for lunch tomorrow since I’ll be working.

  • Reply Laura November 1, 2016 at 2:02 pm

Mexican for all the meals, always!!! B like Twin Peaks, too, so we may need to make a trip over there, since I’ve never tried it — I do love a good boneless wing!! Duh, Halloween is ON Halloween — get it right people. And hooray for getting all the baby things done!! IT”S GETTING SO CLOSE.

Ah, cheap Mexican food is so good! Our favorite Mexican spot in Memphis also happens to be super cheap and it’s awesome. So delicious and cheap and wonderful. And it helps that it’s close to our house. All the love! 😀 I’m happy you got to eat Mexican food twice in one weekend. Solid choice, my friend. And all those baby clothes are the best! Love!

Boneless wings AND queso…two of my most favorite things.
People DRIVE their kids on SATURDAY?! WTF?!? I’ve never heard of such a thing!
