weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans

I seriously am amazed every Sunday evening when the realization kicks in that the weekend is just about over. Like where did it even go?

Friday – We stayed in Friday evening and caught up on some of our shows. I made soup for dinner for myself, Chris had Subway. I was exhausted! I had worked from home on Thursday, trying to fight off some horrible bug that Chris had caught. Apparently that took a lot out of me!

Saturday – I was Cinderella Saturday morning. I am in spring cleaning mode so I did a deep clean of the entire main floor of our house. All of the blankets were washed, the bathmat and rugs in the bathrooms, lots of dusting and floor cleaning. I even cleaned some of the baseboards. #LOATHE

We headed to three thrift shops. We scored a few games and I hit the mother-load at the last one that had a ton of great books. I picked up these two for 99 cents. (Cue the Thrift Shop song….But shit, it was 99 cents…….)

I couldn’t believe how many great hardback books they had there for 99 cents! I will be sure to look more closely at the book sections from now on. I wanted the South Beach Diet book for all the recipes it had and I can’t wait to dive in to The Beach House.

I was starving, so we headed downtown to try a new place, BYOB. (Build Your Own Burger) We ordered cheese fries to split, and we each had our own burger. The cheese fries were delicious!

The burgers though? The burgers were horrible. Both of them were burnt and disgusting. Chris took one bite of his and was like…I am not eating this shit. I ate about 1/4 of mine because I was freaking starving and needed to have something. Had I not been starving, I wouldn’t have eaten mine either. It was really really burnt to the point it was crunchy. And it was $9.50 for just the burger. It didn’t come with a side or anything. That is really high for a crappy burger.

I have had better burgers at Whataburger and Sonic, I am sad to say. It’s ok though, because Jack Brown’s is just around the corner and I will stick with them next time! They never disappoint!

Saturday evening we stayed in and watched Scandal, Shark Tank, Grimm and some reruns of How I Met Your Mother. We ordered Chinese food, I had the egg drop soup and it was delicious! It more than made up for my shitty burger experience.

Sunday – I worked on some blog things, meal planned and grocery shopped. I got caught up on some magazine reading. I also completed our video game cataloging for all the vintage games we have. I still need to do what we have upstairs for the newest systems, but that wont take very long at all. It feels so good to have that done!

In other news, I was super excited to receive a box of Greystone Bakery brownies in the mail on Friday!

Greystone BakeryThese brownies are delicious!!! They are all-natural and kosher brownies baked from scratch. There are no preservatives and you can certainly taste the freshness! My favorite thing about them other than being delicious, is that there is a larger mission behind their company. They have an open-hiring policy to support low-income individuals and their families.

My favorite was the Brown Sugar Blondie. I love Blondies!!!

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! Can you believe this is the last full week of March?!?! I am not even sure how that happened!

Friday Favorites

Time for Friday Favorites!!!

Favorite Song: Once again, I shazammed a song from The Originals. It seems like every week I find a new song between that show or Vampire Diaries! This song is on point for something more chill. You Should Know Where I’m Coming From by Banks.

Favorite Packages:I won two giveaways in the same week!!! I am not quite sure how I got so lucky, but I was ecstatic to receive these in the mail this last week!

Pearlties

I won Pearlties from lovely The Sequin Notebook ladies! These are absolutely beautiful hair ties that I was so excited to receive. I love that they have a little pearl on each piece, and I couldn’t believe how many colors they sent me! Not only are the ties cute, but the packaging is amazing. The company also donates a percentage of its sales to charity…which is pretty cool in my book.

I also won the Flex Watch from Kristin at Hopelessly Ever After! I picked the pink venice watch and it reminds me of a watermelon and I freaking love the pop of color! This company also serves a great message. I love seeing so many companies giving back!!!

Favorite Recipe: A fellow Magic City Blogger, Julie at Life in the Little Yellow House, shared a recipe this week for an Iced Earl Grey Latte and it looks amazing!!! I really want to swap out my coffee run on a Friday for this because it looks delicious! You can see the picture and recipe here.

Favorite Reading: I have been enjoying flipping through the beauty issue of Galmour this month! The little things!

Confessions

It is time for my weekly confessions!

–I did it. I caved. I bought Cadbury Mini Eggs on Monday night. I am not even a little bit sorry. #yolo #onceayear #justified

–We decided to make meatloaf this week because we haven’t had it in awhile and I was ridiculously excited about it. It’s the little things. #comfortfood

–I got out my mint green nail nail polish and planned to do it with a gold sparkle accent nail on Saturday for St Patrick’s day and my nails are still bare today. The bottles stare at me on the bathroom counter shaking their head in disgust every time I am in there. #itsthethoughtthatcounts

–Do you ever look at something that you know is going to piss you off, but you just can’t help it and you do it anyways. Then you rage about it for awhile and realize how ridiculous you really are? No? Me neither. #canthelpit

–Yesterday my glasses broke. I decided right then and there that it was time to finally make that damn eye appointment on my lunch break. Except, I went to Walgreens and bought a glasses repair kit instead because damn dilation. I may never go back to the eye doctor.

–I brought leg day back in to my routine. I felt awesome the entire work out and thought to myself, hmm that wasn’t so bad. Maybe my knees are better! I don’t even feel a thing. This morning I woke up and could barely walk down the stairs to the treadmill. I forgot the burn comes a day later with legs. #feeltheburn

–Speaking of treadmill, I ran two minutes longer today than my longest time last week. I was too tired to self-five myself after those extra two minutes.

Ashley Nevis Prints and a GiveAway

Decorating a house can be hard work! We have lived in our current house for two and a half years, and hardly any rooms are decorated the way I want them. The thing is, I have been trying to collect meaningful pieces. Not just something for a space just to have something. Do you know what I mean?

So when Ashley asked me if I wanted to receive one of her hand lettered art pieces to review, I was honored and excited! I only share things on my blog that I truly believe in, and Ashley’s prints are awesome! The problem is, I had a hard time deciding which one I wanted! She has so many great prints. Here are some of my favorites:

Spring

The great thing is, Ashley even does custom prints! I really loved this state one, especially since I had lived a few different places and Chris and I started out in two different states. Custom-State-Love-StoryUltimately I decided on this one:

Ashley Nevis Prints

It is the perfect addition to our bedroom area.

The print arrived in perfect condition! She even had it sealed in plastic, which looks very professionally done.

You can shop Ashley Nevis Prints shop here. She offers free shipping, which I find super awesome!  And be sure to check out her blog here. She shares some delicious recipes!

Now for some super exciting news, Ashley has set up a giveaway for one of my readers to win a beautiful piece of hand lettered art of hers!!! This is the first giveaway I have ever hosted on my blog, so I hope you enjoy!

Birmingham, weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans – The One I Pretend I am 22

Oh hey there Monday, be kind to me. It has been a busy weekend of me pretending I am 22 instead of 31!

Friday, I had lunch at Ocarr’s with my usual group. I LOVE their fruit and chicken salad there. You get such a great variety of fresh yummy fruits that you wouldn’t get anywhere else.

IMG_4851

Friday evening, Chris and I hit up a few thrift stores around town and scored some great games. We then made a horrible decision to stop at Zaxby’s on the way  home for lack of options off our exit. It was delicious…but so so bad. When we were done eating, we both said…

Saturday was an exciting day! I spent about two hours in the morning cataloging our game collection. This has been a huge undertaking and I only have all of our Sega collection to finish now. We then got ready and headed downtown to meet up with our friend Stephen who is in town from Vegas! We met up with him at World of Beer, grabbed a drink and then headed to Eat Drink Birmingham in Homewood. We sampled delicious food and beer pairings for about two hours and then headed back to our house for awhile to relax.

Eat Drink Birmingham

Stephen hadn’t been to Birmingham since we moved here so he wanted to check it out and start getting in to the zone for the evening. What does a world famous DJ do when he comes to our house? Plays video games, of course!!!

IMG_4878

He was loving all of our old school games downstairs and we also played Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U. After our gaming session, we headed back down town. We grabbed burgers at Jack Brown’s and then Stephen went to go get ready at his hotel while Chris and I waited at World of Beer (for the second time of the day) for him to be done.

World of BeerWe then headed to Skky Nightclub for the evening where Stephen performed. He killed it, as usual! It was so great getting to spend time with him. It was pretty cool because we got the VIP area up on stage with these white leather couches. And get this….I stayed up until 4 am!!! The girl who is usually asleep by 10 pm most evenings was wide awake and jamming until 4 am.

Annnnnnnd then I proceeded to feel like death all day Sunday. Not from drinking, as I only had 4 beers the entire day…but because I am far too old to be dancing in 4 inch heels until the weeee morning hours. My knees. Oh my knees!!!

Sunday we hung around the house in the morning waiting for death. Since death did not come, we grabbed some Mexican on a patio for lunch since it was a gorgeous day. We headed to Chris’s parents house for a little while to check out his dad’s new toy and then did our grocery shopping like the adults we are.

Now excuse me while I try to survive the rest of the day. My run this morning was really hard  but I pushed through and now my body is screaming at me! Crazy how after you hit 30, your body rebels against you! Am I right?! Hope everyone has a fabulous week!
