Confessions

I haven’t done a confession post the last two weeks and I missed it. I hope you did too? Either way, it’s baaaccckkkk! (read that in a creepy/stalker tone, obviously)

–You guys. You guys. For the love! Why is it that Roden and Fields has taken over Facebook??? I have a few Facebook “friends” that are distributors and that is great and all. Congrats in fact! But here is the thing, you aren’t fooling anyone with the comments on your posts about how awesome that shit is. Every person that comments is another Roden and Fields distributor as well. I might have been interested in trying it out, you know, before you posted about it eleventy bazillion times and bothered the ever living shit out of me. Just no. But love you, mean it. I can handle maybe a post or two a week about it, but more than that? #justno

–I keep seeing this quote everywhere I turn. Do you think it is trying to tell me something? #voodoo

–Oh life lessons. I believe in either middle school or high school I learned the hard way that those who gossip to you will gossip about you. Sadly, that story is still true well into adulthood. If people want to believe that a shit-stirrers gossip is true, then I don’t need them in my life. #peoplesuck

–I have two nephews graduating preschool/daycare this week and heading to kindergarten. How has it been 5 years already??? Not to mention my oldest niece went to her first prom last weekend. She’s just a freshmen, but still…when my sister sent me a picture of her and the bf before they left…just wow! #wheredidthetimego

Erin wrote a post yesterday asking “What happened to blogging?” It was basically like she wrote exactly what I have said to a few people recently. When did blogging become this cut throat competition of pin-worthy content, fancy pictures and a bunch of rules about what you should and shouldn’t do? I have been writing in this space for 3 years and sometimes it makes me sad to see how much things have changed. I come here and write what I write because I want to. Because I love connecting with you. Because I need a creative outlet.

I never pressure myself to see how many page views I get in a day or sell myself out because I am trying to make this blog a full time business. I have seen so many great bloggers get burned out and quit because they were trying too hard to be perfect. Perfect is boring folks. Write because you want to. Do what you want. What feels good.

The day shall come when looking at certain foods will make me think this!

Weekend Shenanigans

Hello, Monday.

For whatever reason, last week was so long for me. When I left work Friday night, I was ready to put the week behind me so I came home and cleaned the entire house to get a fresh start for the weekend.

Saturday, I headed out early to meet up with my mom for some shopping! It has been far too long since her and I had a girls day! We met up at Sephora so I could pick up some foundation. Why do I always need the basic necessities when the good coupons roll around, eating up my make up budget? *insert sad face*

We checked out a few stores at The Summit then headed to Ashley Mac’s for lunch! Ashley Mac’s is this cute local girly restaurant that has the BEST chicken salad and sour cream biscuits!! When I worked in Cahaba Heights, I frequented this place on the regular. I always get the same thing, half a chicken salad sandwich on croissant with a side baby blue salad and a sour cream biscuit. (The tiny biscuit is hiding behind my salad between the sandwich and the dressing.)

After that, we headed to Nordstrom Rack and TJ Maxx. Norstrom Rack had so many cute things this time! And shoes for days!!! It was then time for me to head home. I couldn’t believe how fast the day had gone by. Why don’t work days go by that quickly?

Sunday morning I had gotten up to do some blog things, but after hearing that the weather may get bad later…I got the meal planning and grocery shopping done super early. The rest of the day was spent doing things like this…

And this….

Last night we decided to watch a movie, We’re the Millers. Have you seen it? I just love Jennifer Anniston and the movie had its funny parts. Luckily, the weather never got severe here and we even saw some sunshine for the first time in days!!!

In other news, I was at Target yesterday shortly after they opened and I didn’t even think about the Lily collection premiering. Does that make me a bad blogger? Meh…

I got picked for a Voxbox for the first time in like a year, so I am super excited about that!!! It is supposed to be a Covergirl one and I just love playing with new make up!

Has anyone tried the Rimmel setting powder? Just wondering…

Linking up with Biana. I hope everyone has a great week!

beauty, friday favorites

Friday Favorites

Favorite Song: Afrojack Ten Feet Tall – This isn’t a new song by any means…but I just love it!!! I added it to my running list for next week. It is in good company with a whole bunch of Calvin Harris stuff. And Lady Gaga. Because if you aren’t running to Lady Gaga, I am not sure what you are doing with your life.

Favorite Dinner: Last night Chris and I met up with his family at Konomi for my sister-in-law’s birthday dinner. I freaking LOVE good sushi and hibachi…and great company too 🙂

Favorite Beauty Product: I picked up the Biore Charcoal Warming 1 Minute Face Mask last week because I just have to do something about my skin. I only used it once so far, and I can really tell a difference. My skin is smoother, some of the blemishes I could feel starting disappeared and the overall look (tone?) of my face is brighter and more even. All in one minute of scrubbing?Yes, please!

Favorite Surprise: Chris was out thrifting and he picked me up this Donald Duck mug. I thought it was so sweet of him to grab it. I had no clue he was looking for glasses for my collection when he went out, but he said he does all the time.

Favorite Body Product: I like to keep a scrub in my shower at all times for good exfoliation. I normally grab one from Bath and Body Works, but when I was at Target last weekend I found this Bodycology Sugar Scrub.

Bodycology Sugar ScrubI am really loving this stuff!! I picked up the XOXO one, it has a delicate smell of raspberry and vanilla musk. It reminds me of a scent I used to wear in college and I just love how soft it makes my skin feel after I use it. There were two other scents, a floral one and a sugar one….they all smelled great in the store and I think this is going to be my go to from now on at $5.99!!!

Sh!t Chris Says

Sh!t Chris Says

I have had this post in the drafts for awhile now, adding all these gems as they occur. Since I was in a funk, I decided to read over this. One of the traits Chris mesmerized me with from day one is his personality and sense of humor. Chris knows how to make me laugh! I am one lucky lady.

It is about that time folks. Time for another edition of Sh!t Chris Says!!!

Sh!t Chris Says

–We are watching Tosh.O and there is a prom girl web redemption. Basically, she fell walking down the stairs in her prom dress so Tosh has one of those chair lift things for the stairs installed for the web redemption.

Chris says, “That shit drives me up the wall.”

–A Legal Zoom commercial comes on and the dog says always got your back. Chris says, “It’s a parabeagle!!!!” (Get it, instead of paralegal?!)

–I made peanut butter cookies one evening from things we  had around the house because Chris wanted “something sweet.” Chris takes a bite of a warm one out of the oven and says, “This is the best thing you’ve done since we got married.”

–We are watching Pretty Little Liars and Aria’s new boyfriend acts jealous. Chris says, “Someone make him a jelly sandwich.”

–Chris takes a Buzzfeed quiz (he seriously has an addiction to these quizzes and takes them all the time) and it asks to pick a sexy guy to deliver his pizza. Chris says, “These questions are always awkward. Oh!!! Matthew McConaughey, Duh!!!”

–We are watching Grey’s Anatomy and some girl is on. Chris comments, “One of her eyebrows is higher than the other. Brouch!”

–We just scored an awesome find at the thrift store and it was a really good deal too. As we are pulling out of the parking lot, Chris says “We are the ATS Bandits!!!” (ATS is the initials of the thrift store.)

Linking up with my girl Joey today for Stuff and Things.

You can catch more of the shit Chris says here, here, here, here, here, and here! Remember when Amanda used to have Shit Men Says as a link up? Yeah, I miss that!! And her.

How to Get out of The Funk

Is it just me, or is there a serious case of the funk going around? I don’t know what has gotten me in to this funk, but I let it simmer for a few days and now it needs to go! There are several things that always put me in a better mood, and these are the steps that I take to get out of the funk.

1. Snuggle a Puggle (or any dog) – My dogs instantly make me feel better no matter what happened in my day. They are always excited to see me, they give lots of kisses and their snuggles are the best snuggles.

Snuggle a Puggle

2. Quotes that inspire – It might sound cheesy, but sometimes you just need some wise words to set your mind straight.

I find it pointless to argue and get upset with people that walk around angry with the world or people that seem like they always have a problem with me, because I see it like this; everyday I move into something new in my life while your stuck sitting in what ever funk your in . . .

"I am in charge of how I feel and today I am choosing happiness."

17 Inspirational Things You Can Post Against Your Haters Right Now

Need a pick-me-up? Here are 22 of the best Pinterest quotes to get you feeling inspired.

My only regret... Not quite my ONLY regret, but clearly one near the top of my list.

3. Treat Yo’Self – A little pampering just for you can often do a trick. Take a bubble bath, paint your nails, try a new face mask.

4. Exercise – Sometimes a good walk/run to clear your mind or kick boxing to literally beat your stress’s ass! You know..endorphins and shit…they make you happy.

5. Get lost in a book – Nothing like letting your mind wander through a fictional universe in a great story!

6. Watch you favorite TV show – Especially if it is a funny one, you could use a little funny!

7. Retail Therapy – Shopping always makes me feel better. Always.

8. Clean – Taking it out on the kitchen counters, the closet, the living floors, that bathtub…sometimes it helps!

9. Channel those feelings – Take your negative thoughts and feelings and channel them in to something productive. Crafts, start a new project, tackle something you have been meaning to get done, re-work your web design, etc.

10. Write down the positive – Sure, you could sit there and focus on the things that aren’t your jam right now….but you know you have a lot of good things going for you! Write them down and cultivate positive thoughts.
