Friday Favorites

Fridays are even more awesome when you are coming off a short weekend!!! They get here a whole day faster!

Favorite Song: So, I had found another song on Vampire Diaries. This is a much slower, chill song…but perfect for a raining day like today. Or some deep thinking at a coffee shop. Or when you are riding in the car and you look out the window like in a movie all puzzling and sad-ish. Don’t tell me you have never done that.. When You Sleep by Mary Lambert

Favorite Recipes: I have been pinning the shit out of some clean recipes since Tuesday when I went crazy pants and agreed to go grain free. I haven’t had nachos in a few weeks, and I really miss them. Check out these paleo sweet potato nachos. Mmmmmm. Clean doesn’t have to be boring!

Addictive and Healthy Nachos- you will want to make these nachos over, and over, and over…

Favorite Pin: I would love to have a little reading corner like this in my office or our bedroom. How cozy and inviting does this look???

I would love to get an old chair and recover it to look like this!

Favorite Lusts: I need some new work out clothes. Bad. Kohl’s has these tops on sale this week, I think I need some! They are a decent price too!

I also need to find a swimsuit before we go to the beach this summer. I really only have one that is still in decent shape. Where is your favorite place to go?

Allure Beauty Box, beauty

Allure Beauty Box May 2015

I wanted to share the contents of my second Allure Beauty Box! I was much more pleased with the sizes of the samples this go round. Also, they sent six things again this month instead of just five. Yay 🙂

What’s the Deal: For $15 a month, Allure sends you 5 deluxe size beauty samples, a mini magazine about the samples and a $10 off your $50 purchase on beautybar.com. I figured that was a decent deal for 5 deluxe samples!  I pay for this on my own, and all opinions are my own. This is not a sponsored post, a girl just likes to talk beauty sometimes, ok?! You can see my first box from last month here.

What I got:

John Frieda Luxurious Volume 7 Day Volume In-Shower Treatment

This is a gel that you apply in the shower for 3-5 minutes after you shampoo and condition your hair and you rinse it out before styling/drying. It is supposed to create volume  and is water resistant so that lasts through 3-5 shampoos. This can be found at stores for around $10, which is a great price point if you as me.

My thoughts: It is easy to use and it didn’t weigh my fine, limp hair down which was a plus. I tried it out this week, and the humidity has been high and there is a chance for rain every day, so it is hard to say how it is really holding up because my hair tends to freak out with so much humidity.

John Frieda Luxurious Volume
Should you get it: Give me awhile longer to form an opinion. I think I like it, but humidity throws off my hair game.

Julep Lip Gloss in Graceful

I have received a Julep Lip Gloss when I was getting the Julep Maven box every month. I loved it and this one is no different!!! The Graceful color is a light pink and is a little sheer. It is great for every day. I love the scent of these lip glosses  and they aren’t too sticky. The full size glosses are around $20 on the Julep site.

Should you get it: Yes!! I love the Julep lip glosses. They are some of my favorites.  I am tempted to opt back in a month and just get three different colors. They smell great, the colors are wonderful and they aren’t sticky. Can you ask for more?

Versace Eros Pour Femme

I love this scent! I have basically worn it every day since I got it. I am not sure how to describe the scent? It isn’t anything crazy. The sheet says lemon, bergamot, pomegranate, jasmine, peony, sandalwood, amber and musk. The good news is, Chris doesn’t seem to mind it either. Yay! The 1.7 ounce retails for $92.

Versace EROS POUR FEMME
Should you get it: I really enjoyed this scent. If you are looking for a scent that is not offensive to a sensitive nose, and don’t mind spending a little more I would consider it. It is something different, I get tired of smelling the same few scents everywhere I go, you know?

Eau Thermale Avene Thermal Spring Water

This is a calming, cooling spray. It says that it calms and soothes sensitive or dry skin. I tried it twice and I loved the feeling it left me with. I am going to save it for the summer, keep it in the fridge and use it as a refresher. It would probably feel amazing if you were sun burnt! Though I don’t plan to let myself get that way. It retails for $12.50.

Should you get it: If you live in the south, or experiencing some heat…I would snatch this baby up for a cool down. It really did feel like it was calming my skin the instant I sprayed it.

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

This mask  you put on before you go to bed. It is supposed to hydrate and leave your skin looking plump and glowy. There is a slight rose scent when you apply, but hardly noticeable. I have used it twice and I will say that my skin was super soft in the morning. I don’t know about glowy? But I work out and sweat like crazy after I wake up so that sort of covers anything up. It is suggested to layer this mask over your anti-aging stuff to make it more effective, so that is a fun bonus! This retails for $23

Should you get it: I like the way this mask felt when I put it on. It soaked into my skin fairly quickly, and didn’t leave any residue on my pillow or anything. I am out of anti-aging serum right now, so I can’t speak to the fact that it makes those products more effective, but it sure does make sense. As far as night masks go, the price isn’t bad and a little goes a long way. I am on the fence if I would purchase it again.

Alterna Caviar Repair Multi-Vitamin Heat Protection Spray

This is a styling spray to prevent damage from flatirons and blow dryers. I loved the scent of this. Almost like a mojito?! It is lightweight and it left my hair feeling super silky after every use. I had to be careful not to overuse, otherwise I felt like it would make it look a little oily. To be fair, I have also been running my fingers through my hair all day long because it is just so silky. This retails for $30.

Should you get this: I am a Chi heat spray girl and have been for years. I will say that this stuff makes my hair silkier for sure. If I had thicker hair, I would have no hesitations to purchase this again in the least bit. Because my hair is so thin, I feel like I can’t add the amount I do with my Chi spray. However, I really like how soft my hair is after using this. There are a ton of vitamins and good things in it for the hair which makes me think I will repurchase it.

Have you used any of these products? What do you think about this box?

weekend shenanigans

Memorial Day Weekend Shenanigans

Why, hello there Tuesday. Be kind to us, won’t you? Who else had an awesome, long weekend?!?! I hope that while you fired up your grill, you reflected on why we have the freedom to grill and enjoy our weekend.

This weekend we had a lot of fun! Friday evening we stayed in and watched some Chicago Fire. Chris fell asleep on the couch, so I read a few chapters in my book. I was hoping to finish it this weekend, but that didn’t happen.

Saturday, we kicked the weekend off with some beers at our favorite spot, World of Beer! This was after I spend the early morning cutting the front and side yard. Man, was it hot to be cutting grass!!!

WOBIt was such a gorgeous day to be out on the patio, soaking up the sun. Absolutely amazing weather!!!

We stopped by What’s on 2nd to trade in some video games we had doubles of. We scored some great deals! Then it was off to one of Chris’s co-workers’ for a backyard BBQ pool side. We met some really nice people and had some delicious food!

We ended back at World of Beer that evening to meet up with someone for a little while. Like my water? We listened to the live music for a little while and headed home. We were out past 11 PM. Who are we? 🙂

Sunday, we headed to Chuy’s at The Summit to meet some friends for lunch. I didn’t snap any pictures of our delicious food. Just know that chips and queso and these amazing tacos with the best flour tortillas I have ever had were devoured.

From there, we headed to 2nd & Charles to browse. I had found this AWESOME picture there, but it was $20 and it was more of a $10-$12 size in my opinion. I may have to make one myself or peruse the internet to find a cheaper alternative. It wasn’t the right color for any of our rooms, anyways. But I wanted to share it, because I know my book lovers will love it!

It says “I’ve been looking for you since I read my first fairytale.” I mean, how perfect?? Who knows…I may give in and go back and scoop that thing up!

The rest of Sunday consisted of picking up a shelf we ordered for our living room and buying another at Best Buy for our game room. And Chicago Fire. Lots and lots of Chicago Fire.

Monday morning I cut the backyard, then came in and starting putting together shelves. I got the media shelf built for downstairs and this awesome shelf for our living room. It took me about 2 and a half hours to do both.

shelf

I am in love with the sides of this self!!!! I forgot to take a picture of the media shelf, but it is nothing fancy. We already have it full of games and really need another one. The shelf for our living room is empty right now, I guess a trip to HomeGoods is in order!!! While I was building, the last 30 minutes of Dirty Dancing was on!

I headed out to do our grocery shopping and picked up Moe’s BBQ for our late lunch/early dinner.

I got the turkey plate with baked beans and mac n cheese. I also stole one of Chris’s ribs. Moe’s is certainly one of my top choice BBQ places for sure. They have the best turkey around! We finished up the first season of Chicago Fire last night, and watched the first episode of season 2. It was pretty cool to see the back story of Voight from PD.

Other things that happened this weekend…

weekendingI finally painted my nails (Orly – Watch Out Or Elsa) and spied on Mac being adorable.

I hope everyone has a fantastic week!!!

Friday Favorites

Favorite Song: Feeling nostalgic this morning after reminiscing with Laura yesterday via gchat on all the songs that made life so awesome when we were younger.  So I am taking it back to Sum 41’s In Too Deep.

Favorite Meal: I have  been making the same salad for myself every night after work for the last two weeks. It is so simple, yet so delicious! Basically just iceburg lettuce, cucumber, purple onion, a little grated Parmesan cheese, green olives, seasoned croutons and the dressing is a dash of olive oil, lots of red wine vinegar and nature seasoning. Sometimes I throw on tomatoes if I wanna get it fancy.

Favorite Outing: Laura and I had a dog handling class Tuesday night and it let out early so we headed over to Taco Casa to grab some tacos! I had never been before, and I am not one to turn down tacos. I liked the tacos, but the enchilada was served in a huge bowl of cheese. I dug it out and wiped off all the cheese. This was all consumed the night before my best weigh-in for the last year. Goes to show you it is OK to live a little now and then!

Favorite Moment: There are so many! My proudest moment though was when I received a text from my sister saying that my nephew Christopher had gotten all A’s for the entire year and gave a speech at his 4th grade graduation. Proud aunt over here!!!

Favorite Pin: How cute is this?? Making an anchor out of seashells you collect at the beach. Such a cool idea.

Favorite Dog Sightings: Just look at my little princess pants in the yard the other morning. I guess that blurriness is fog? Either way, she looks so regal. <3

Favorite Funnies:

How I felt last week when one of my friends had a job interview in TX and the other is talking about moving to FL.

When I hit send on an email and realized I forgot to read back through to catch for errors…

How I feel every night but continue to clean up anyways…

This morning I am working from home so that I can attend my nephew’s preschool graduation. When I asked for permission, my boss told me what someone else in our company told him when he went to his daughter’s last week. “Oh wow, that is a huge accomplishment for Alabama.” Har har. Our corporate office is in Florida and my boss told him, “Well at least we don’t wear jorts here.” So damn true.

I hope everyone has a fabulous three day weekend!!! Don’t forget the reason why we all get to enjoy our time off 🙂
