weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans

Another weekend has come and gone. Crazy how fast they go by, isn’t it? I had a wonderful weekend and I hope that you did too!

Friday I had lunch with my friends, as we settle into the Lunch Club sans one member who moved. Sigh. Babalu’s enchilada of the day was beef with fresh roasted corn salsa and jalapeno cheese. I indulged.

Friday evening I grabbed Moe’s BBQ for Chris and I on my way home from work. Moe’s goes great with New Girl binge watching. Obviously.

Saturday morning I was up 6am to clean the house before my mom came over to take me birthday shopping. We were out all day and it was wonderful. I love getting to spend that much time with her! She of course spoiled me with a few presents and I found some great deals that I couldn’t pass up either!

FullSizeRender (44)Zella top and capris to work out in, a navy short sleeve sweater to wear over some of my sleeveless dresses for work, 2 dresses from the Loft at less than $20 each (yay for an additional 60% off clearance!!!!) 2 blouse-y tops, cropped jeans (that were $98 marked down to $36) and a really cute dress with flow-y 3/4 length arms from Pink Tulip.

When I got home, Chris had a few of his friends over and I let them have their guy time while I finished reading my latest book, Secrets of Maple Syrup Farm. It was so good!! I will have a review up tomorrow because it has to be shared!

Sunday morning I did three hours of yard work. It was so hot. So freaking hot. I am pretty sure this was the hottest weekend of the year. I was so tired and spent after all that work, but we still had a whole day ahead of us! We went to lunch with Chris’s parents and stopped by a Bargain Hunt and  a few thrift stores. I found three books for $0.49 each! Score!

After we parted ways with them, we still had to do our grocery shopping for the week. We ran around Publix as quickly as possible so we could spend some down time watching TV before bed. I slept like a baby.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! It is back to the grind today. I am linking up with Biana for Weekending. Happy Monday! (Like there is such a thing???)

Favorite Song: You guys know how I love to throw it back!!! High by Feeder. How can you not drift in to memories when you hear this song? Oh 90’s, your music really was the best!

Favorite Beauty Find: Last week, Sephora sent out an email to VIB members with some “early access” items. I happened to scroll through and saw this Tarte Energy Noir Clay palette and realized that I just had to have it. HAD TO. Luckily I had a $25 Sephora gift card so I bought that thing before I could think twice about it. Look how gorgeous these colors are!!!!

Here is a picture of mine. The colors are pretty darn close to what is online!

Tarte Noir

I am just in love with all these colors, they are so perfect! This is my first time using tarte eye shadow and blush, and I am loving them! I figured I would, tarte has one of my favorite mascaras! It is available for VIB Sephora members or you can order it off QVC. I don’t think it hits all stores until this fall.

Favorite Recipe: This spicy baked shrimp looks so good!

Spicy Baked Shrimp - 1/2 cup olive oil 2 tablespoons Cajun or Creole seasoning 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley 1 tablespoon honey 1 tablespoon soy sauce Pinch of cayenne pepper 1 pound uncooked large shrimp, shelled, deveined

I Smell Friday!

Oh Thursday. You are so close to the weekend that I can smell it!!!

Some thoughts for this Thursday

–I am honored to be guest posting over on Pamela’s blog A Little Glitter today! Go show her some love!

–I posted a book review late yesterday, as if you didn’t add enough to your to-read list already this week!

–I went to the dermatologist yesterday for my face. You guys, why did I wait so long??? They gave me an injection for one of my trouble spots and I woke up this morning to it being 75% gone! They also gave me some prescriptions for topical solutions to try and told me there was no reason to spend lots of money on face wash since you are just washing it down the drain anyways. I have heard that before, but it clicks when a professional tells you, you know?

–Clueless turns 20 this year. Wow!! Check out this article on the premier. Oh 90’s, you were so cool!

–Speaking of the 90’s, how 90’s was your bedroom? You can take this quiz to find out. Oh, memories!!!

I hope your Thursday is fabulous!!! Linking up with Joey.

The Closer You Come – Book Review

I just finished reading The Closer You Come yesterday, and I wanted to share my thoughts while they were fresh on my mind! First, let me share what it is about:

The Closer You Come (The Original Heartbreakers, #1)

The description from NetGalley:

Tortured by a violent past, ex-con Jase Hollister is looking to start over in a small town. The rugged bachelor suffering from PTSD longs for peace and quiet, always keeping his women at a distance—and his heart encased in stone.

Brook Lynn Dillon is a down on her luck waitress determined to avoid the man every woman in town wants—including her sister. The last thing she needs is his kind of trouble. But his every glance makes her burn…and her resistance is melting fast.

The two agree to a one-time fling, not expecting to be forever branded. Now, no matter how hard they try, they can’t keep their hands off each other. But when a secret from Jase’s past comes to light, they’ll have to face a cold, hard truth: it’s more than Jase’s freedom on the line, it’s their hearts.

This book was my first in the romance genre. I am not sure why I shied away from them for so long because I really enjoyed this book! The characters were wonderful and the book was descriptive enough to paint a good picture in my head of how they looked, the scenery, etc. There was a great story line, a little sass, a lot of kink, and the right amount of sitting at the edge of your seat to see what would happen next. The fact that I finished it in three days (working days might I add) says a lot!

I feel like the relationships between the characters are very relate-able. Well, all except the beginning of the book between Brook Lynn and her slutty older sister. That scene was a little messed up and sort of bothered me,  but not enough to stop reading it. (I hate spoilers so I wont go in to too much detail unless you ask.)

I liked the banter back and forth, all the teasing, and the fact that Brook Lynn was a pretty strong female lead. I like a kick ass female character!

The only thing I didn’t really like is that Jase, one of the main characters, refers to Brook Lynn as “honey” and “angel” a lot. I could have done without the pet names so much.

The author, Gina Showalter, has a series of paranormal romance novels that I might have to give a try now! There are two more books coming out in this series as well and I can’t wait!

If you are looking for a fun and sexy read, then I highly recommend this book!

I  received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

confessions

Confessions

–Does anyone else have a hangover from their book high after yesterday? So many conversations about books, so many news ones added to my to-read list. I love how many book nerds come out of the woodwork on link up day! #booknerd

–I feel guilty that I don’t have any desire to read Jane Austen or Harper Lee books. I just don’t. I have tired before, and I just can’t get in to them. Maybe one day.

–I seriously have been having the hardest time getting back to grain free and pushing myself during my workouts if I am being completely honest. Taking a week off is just long enough to drop all forms of healthy habits. Isn’t that the way? So hard to get going, so easy to let go! Tuesday morning I had an amazing run. Amazing. And now I am back!

The point of this is to say, if you too are struggling just keep going. It will click again! #justkeepswimming

–For months the creative side of my brain has been sleeping. I kept trying to tap back in to it and it refused. I feel like maybe it is starting to wake back up. I have had so many ideas come to me in the last few days. I need to write them all down and never let them go! #creativejuices

–I just happened to look down at the date and realized that in just a month (and two days) I am going to be 32. t-h-i-r-t-y-t-w-o Let that sink in. Yikes. And you know what? Most days, I still don’t feel like an adult. Often times I wonder if I ever will? Or does everyone walk around feeling that way? #feelingold #toysruskid
