Confessions

It is time to spill all your secrets with Kathy and I!

–This past weekend when we were eating out, we looked over at the table next to us and this boy was just sitting there with his hands folded staring at his mom who was playing on her phone. The entire time they were there, neither said a word to each other. What is wrong with people??? Put your phone down and pay attention to your kid!!! I wanted to invite the little dude to come sit with us.  #badparent

–Someone went on a shopping spree with my debit card. Dealing with that shit is so damn annoying. The bank acts like you just forgot you spent an extra grand and they don’t seem to be in a hurry to give money back. I got so mad that I told Chris I hope that whatever they bought catches on fire and burns their house down with them in it. I might have been a little irrational when I said that. #peoplesuck #getajobandstoptakingotherpeoplesmoney

–Don’t panhandle me when I am pumping gas. I assume you are walking up to rob or carjack me. It’s a rough world and I am on the defense. #iwillninjakickyou

–You know you need to make a change when you tear your closet apart and make yourself late because you don’t like the way anything looks on. #girlproblems #meltdown

–Am I the only one who is tired of people telling me what to do with my blog? I can appreciate some useful tips or information. Or you know, something new. But these posts that tell people that they should respond to comments, write good content and  have pictures is a bit ridiculous. #noshitshirtlock #amateurhour

–I keep the AC cranked to fool myself into thinking it is indeed winter time. #elninoproblems

book review, books, health

The Longevity Kitchen

Most of you know by now that I am fairly health conscious through the week. Of course, my weekend shenanigans posts will tell a different story. Hello food porn! But in general, over the last few years I have been much more aware of the types of foods I am putting in my mouth, the cleaners that I use have less to no chemicals now and I have been slowly converting my rubbermaid containers to glass.

I believe that what you eat can dictate how you look and feel. The healthier I eat, the better my body feels. Simple enough. But did you also know that certain foods can help different areas of your body function better? When I read about The Longevity Kitchen, I instantly thought about Chris. He suffers from chronic back pain and inflammation. He also has to watch his blood pressure. I suffer from asthma, can have a crappy immune system at times and I have to keep my sweet tooth in check. We both have pretty bad allergies.

The Longevity Kitchen

The Longevity Kitchen has 125 recipes using the top 16 foods proven to fight the most chronic conditions. There are menu plans that you can follow for your main concerns. I plan on incorporating these 16 power foods in our weekly rotations to see if there is going to be any improvements. I am really excited to try out some of these recipes. I have my eyes on:

  • Gluten-Free Blueberry Mini Muffins
  • Bento Box Soup
  • Minted Guacamole with Pomegranate Seeds
  • Yogurt Berry Brulee with Maple Almond Brittle
  • Insanely Good Chocolate Brownies (that have no added sugar and use almond flour!!!!)

There are also lots of recipes for different marinades, dressings, sauces and even directions for how to make your own almond flour!

What I really love about this book? It is more than just a cookbook. At the beginning, there are a few chapters talking about the science behind the foods we eat. It goes in to length about the main functions of our bodies and why certain foods are important. There is even a culinary pharmacy section that breaks down certain foods and tells you beneficial facts of each food. Like did you know that almonds are antioxidant, blood sugar regulators and help with heart health? Or that coconut milk/oil is an antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and supports bone health.

Before the recipes start, there is a break down to tell you what pages to look for what ails you. Immune boosters, stress reducers, mind enhancers, blood sugar regulators, flexibility promoters, liver boosters, heart strengtheners, skin enrichers, and LDL cholesterol reducers.

If you have a certain condition that you would like to try to treat naturally, I would check this book out! Or even if you just want to make sure you are incorporating healthy foods in to your daily diet.

weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans

You guys!!! This is the last full work week of the year! So we can totally take on this Monday, right??? This weekend was full of a little shenanigans and a lot of lazy. Just the way I like it!

Friday when I got home, Chris had his friend J over so I hung out with them some and then finished reading my book. We ordered Chinese food because it is the only thing opened past 8pm in these parts. I am not going to lie, it as delicious but probably one of the last times I will indulge in it. When I make my own version at home, it is way healthier!!!

Saturday morning I got up and got moving on cleaning around the house, then it was parade time!!! Chris’s company has a spot in the Christmas parade every year and we ride on the float. Last year they had a Frozen theme, this year was Dr Seuss. My favorite!!! We had the Grinch, Cindy Lou Who,  Max (the dog), Thing 1 and Thing 2 and The Cat In the Hat. This parade is kind of a big deal and everyone has months of preparation. Chris and his co-workers took home number 1!!!!!

Look at the detail that went in to just the tree on the back of the float!

Christmas Tree Float

I took one for the team and wore a construction hat with a phone that was recording live on periscope. You got some behind the scenes on our float and got to see the crowds as we went through. These guys should be proud, they got lots of thumbs up and clapping for a job well done!

IMG_7034

We got waves from Santa as we came through.

IMG_7026

We had a lot of fun on the float, but it sure does take a lot out of you!!! We have to be there two hours before the parade begins to get lined up and judged. The parade route is pretty long and by the time we were pulling back in the parking lot after the route….it was starting to get dark! We grabbed some Mexican food at our favorite local place and headed on home.

The Grinch and Family Stone entertained me Saturday night. Along with some hot chocolate! I never tire of this view!!!

IMG_7046

Sunday we meal planned, grocery shopped and got caught up on all of our shows. We also watched Home Alone! Gotta get in all of those Christmas movies!!!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!!! This week I need to finish Christmas shopping and start getting these gifts wrapped. I have not a one wrapped yet. Oops! To be honest, I like to do it all at once and just knock it out!

This house!!!

If you love Chip and Joanna Gaines as much as we do, seeing glimpses of their stunning farmhouse on HGTV's Fixer Upper, has most likely left you wanting more. Their 1,700-square-foot Victorian home sits on 40 beautiful acres in Crawford, Texas, a suburb of Waco. When the couple isn't busy transforming fixer uppers for clients or working on exciting new projects for their business, this is the haven they call their own.:

about me, Wish List

Christmas Wish List

I don’t want to talk about the amount of time it took me to get a shitty looking collage with cut off pictures going for this wish list. Or how many times I had to try to upload it because it wouldn’t go through. Technology is not my friend most days. What do you all use for your product collages? I know polyvore is out there, but they don’t always have the items I want.

Anyways, I always share a Christmas Wish List each year on the blog. You never know when Santa is going to have time to read it!

Small Christmas Wish List

–There are so many gorgeous purses our there right now! I love this one (in pastel pink) and this one (in dusty rose).

–A new cell phone case like this or this.

–Cute nude flats.

–I have been wanting to try the Fresh Sugar Lip stuff forever!!!

–This Too Faced palette is gorgeous!!

–A blanket scarf.

–Stacked apothecary jar for my bracelets and small jewelry.

–My skin has been awful this past year and I really want to get the Luna to see if it would make a difference!

–I love anchors, how adorable is Alex and Ani bangle?!

What’s on your wish list this Christmas? I can’t believe we are only 15 days away!!
