about me, currently

Hey There, June

Another month of 2016 is in the books. I don’t even know where the last month went, really. We celebrated Chris’s birthday, started looking for a new car, I picked certain areas of the house to start cleaning, organizing and purging, I planted a bucket garden, and we enjoyed a few weekends with amazing weather before the Alabama heat kicks in to full gear. Spoiler alert, it came last week.

Currently I have been…

Reading: I just finished bawling my eyes out to Lily and the Octopus yesterday and started reading Fooling Around this morning on the treadmill.

Listening: Silver Bay by Jojo Moyes via audiobook.

Watching: Bloodline season 2 and Grace and Frankie season 2. We finished pretty much all of our shows for the season over the last two weeks. I think we might have one or two left. Anyone have any binge suggestions for the summer?

Wishing: For some positive people and  compassion. I feel like I have seen so much negativity the last few weeks in so many different areas. It would be a breath of fresh air to see someone supporting what someone else is doing, walking through a store without seeing people giving the workers a hard time over stupid shit, eating at a restaurant without over hearing ridiculousness, and I have basically been staying away from most social media that is a cesspool of rage and anger.

Excited: About trying out a new restaurant for lunch tomorrow with Laura!!! I have been wanting to spend some time getting our food blog back up and running and I hope that tomorrow inspires me to do just that! We have so many places to write about! I need to pour my creativity in to something.

What’s new with you?

Linking up with my girl Kristen and Gretch.

I’ve heard so many great things about Bloodline! My husband and I might have to start watching that this summer when we finally get through everything on our DVR! And I hear ya on the summer heat finally getting here! I was hoping to hold out for a little bit longer, but it’s officially hot and humid and muggy in Houston until October rolls around…

Rude people are the worst. I overheard a stupid conversation at Applebees the other day and I’m trying to mostly avoid FB, too. The world is a crazy place…

What kind of shows are you into? The Mindy Project is a good one. We are on the last season of The West Wing and we’re planning to start The Newsroom as soon as we’re done!

I’m definitely with you on the past month just flying by– this entire year has felt that way! I haven’t read Silver Bay yet, are you enjoying it so far??

I want to stay at home and finish Bloodline season 2. Danny’s son…

I’m not even sure where the first half of this year went. Time goes faster every year.

Sending YOU positive vibes. It is depressing to hear about so much negativity and hate and I see it all the time too. I just tell myself that any little light I can bring to someone hopefully makes a difference. Yay for trying a new restaurant–enjoy it!

i feel you on the negativity girl. i hope you are doing well after our text session last night lol. ooh what is Lily and the Octopus? i haven’t read silver bay yet so i can’t wait to hear your thoughts. and always yay for new restaurants!

All the negativity for real — it’s like no one knows how to be nice anymore. It makes me sad for the future when all I can see is Biff Industries for real… AND HELLS YES TO CHICKEN!! CHICKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (too many exclamation points? no, never for chicken)

I loooove Kyle Chandler (if you haven’t watched Friday Night Lights, DO IT) so I wanted to like Bloodline but I didn’t get into it! I started The Shield last night (it’s old but streaming on Hulu) and am super intrigued after episode one. Houston is currently flooding so if that keeps up, I may make it through a season this weekend!

I’m over hate and mean people too, I’ve been avoiding the news like the plague. I just can’t deal with it right now.

Ooh I’ve actually never heard of Silver Bay! I’ll have to look that one up on GR since I’ve loved everything else I’ve read from her.

Ugh I have been staying away more and more from social media. A lot of that is due to the move and spending every night after work doing things around the house, but it’s been SO NICE to not constantly read negative statuses/articles/comments. I think I’m going to continue the trend even when we’re done with all our house projects!

How is Bloodline? I’ve seen it on Netflix but haven’t checked it out. I am watching movies and less tv so the only thing I’ve been watching is Game of Thrones, although I’m a little behind.

I hear you. Sometimes it’s nice to unplug from social media and all the negativity. I love your food posts! Just wish you lived here so I could try your review. I’m so jealous of all the reading you accomplish on a monthly basis!

I tried to get into Frankie and Grace, but it just wasn’t doing it for me. I just started the first season of Bloodline and love it so far! Unfortunately I don’t have any suggestions for you as I’m still plugging through Grey’s Anatomy and Gilmore Girls from the beginning. Orange is the New Black is coming back soon though! I feel like presidential election years always bring out the worst in people. It’s been easier to stay off social media with the warm weather getting me out and about more!

Your “wishing” part is giving me life. So true.

I’m sorry that you’ve been surrounded by so much negativity recently 🙁 That stuff can really suck the life out of you! Keep “being the change you wish to see,” which I can see that you’re already doing through this blog! It’s a very kind, positive space 🙂

I think that’s the final Jojo moyes novel I haven’t read! It’s on my list.

Seriously, what is the world coming to! We just need to love on each other little bit more and be more appreciative! I found that so many people think they’re entitled to things and that such a load of crap! I need to get on the bandwagon and do one of these currently posts, I just love em’! Hope the new restaurant is amazing and full of not only yummy food, but sweet people too!

  • Reply Lauren @ Oh Hey! I Like That! June 2, 2016 at 4:41 pm

I just started watching the first episode of Bloodline Season 2 the other night! Already SO back in!

  • Reply Gretchen June 2, 2016 at 5:16 pm

I haven’t seen bloodline but I’ve heard so such great stuff about it! I’ll have to add it to my wish list 🙂 Thanks for linking up with us!

since work is fucking ridiculous and i’ve been too busy for social media lately, it’s been so refreshing not to be bombarded with negativity that often poisons it. i dont have to read the fuckwits shitting on others and it’s great. i think i’ll continue this self-imposed ban.

  • Reply Olya @ The Siberian American June 2, 2016 at 5:35 pm

I’m so with you on the “wishing” part right now. It’s so hard to deal with all the negativity all the time. <3 On a lighter note, is Silver Bay good? I've been curious about it.

  • Reply Lindsay June 2, 2016 at 5:50 pm

I can’t believe it’s June. Seriously, this year has flown by! I am with you on the negativity, etc. I have pretty much stayed off social media all week because I just can’t hear another thing about the gorilla. 🙂 We’re watching Bloodline, too! I love Kyle Chandler so much. Hope you’ve had a good day!

Oh gosh – a book that made you cry? A good cry or sad cry? It makes a difference… I’ve not even heard of that book before. I’ve got to go look it up now.

  • Reply ellesees.net June 3, 2016 at 8:40 am

How is it June already?? I still haven’t read any JoJo books yet. I don’t have a squad either, but would love one!

  • Reply Katie June 3, 2016 at 8:59 am

We just started watching Grace and Frankie and really like it. Summer is such a slow time for TV. I can’t wait for Orange is the New Black to come back. Do you watch Orphan Black? That’s another one of our favorites. We also really enjoyed The Fall. Happy June!!! Stay positive amongst all those negative nancys out there.
