Love the Little Things

All of us working folks totally live for the weekends, or live for the next big life event. The thing is, while you are waiting for these things, your life is happening. Life isn’t about Saturdays or some big milestone moment, it is about all the little things that make you smile and bring you joy. The little moments are the ones I want to remember. That is why I take pictures of a random Tuesday dinner, or a picture of Mac just hanging out on my lap. That is why I make sure to write down all the little things that I want to remember about Zoe each month. Sure, it is great that she can now grab a toy or smile. But do you want to know what I really want to remember?

The huge belly laugh from Chris when he makes a funny joke while we are watching TV. The way that Zoe scrunches up her shoulders when she smiles. How Mac swats at your hand when he wants pets. Hanging out with my sister and helping her shop for clothes for her new job. Having lunch with my mom while I was out on maternity leave. I want to remember that conversation Chris and I had standing in our kitchen with a glass of $6 wine. Or the time that Zoe entertained me for 20 minutes just smiling at the mobile of her crib go round and round.

All these little daily moments are the ones that add up to a great life. So just remember that when you are hating life on a Wednesday morning as you are driving to work. Because tonight when you get home, something little might happen that will forever bring a smile to your face when you think back on it. And that is what life is all about my friends. Love the little things.

Shew, this brought tears to my eyes this morning! You are SO right about all this. I live for the weekend but nights when I’m cooking dinner with J or having a glass of wine with a friend are the best times. Even if they happen on a Tuesday.

Yup yup yup! I made a plan to try to notice little things during the week several years ago and I kind of… forgot. Weekends are awesome, but weekdays are when you can see you work friends and justifiably spend an hour or more on the couch since you had such a long day and where so much of life happens. Glad there are blogs to document those moments!

You’re just so right on with this. I live for the weekends when I get to spend every minute with my little guy, but there is so much that happens during the week that I forget about it, because I’m too busy looking forward. Thanks for the reminder bestie — you’re so smart. 🙂

SUPPORT. it’s those small things that make you enjoy life so much more. I try to see life the way kids see it – everything. Ever notice how kids will take forever to walk to the mailbox when it takes adults less than 2 minutes? it’s because kids see the world for what it really is – wonderful and filled with color and opportunity.

Oh I totally agree with this! There was one night last week when Gary laughed so hard and I had to record him because seeing that moment will make us remember those little things!

I’ve been trying to be more intentional about finding little things to look forward to during the week, because I definitely just count down to the weekends constantly, which is really a shame when time goes by so quickly as it is. Love this reminder!

LOVE this post! I’m totally guilty of living for the weekends or our next vacation, especially now that I’m back at work and just want to be with baby girl. I love coming home and snuggling her, and appreciating every moment <3

This is beautiful. As the years pass I’m big on this. Like our nightly antics and tickle fests with Ethan before bed and our dance parties when we cook on Sunday mornings. Love this post!
