about me, weekend shenanigans

Weekend Shenanigans and TBB Asks

This weekend we didn’t really do a whole lot. Zoe came home with a fever Thursday night. It only took the kids in her new class three days to take her down with their grossness. I worked from home and took her to the doctor Friday. The only time her and I left the house this weekend was yesterday to go grocery shopping and meet up with her grandparents for lunch.

I have been staying strong with Whole30. The hardest thing for me is no creamer in the coffee in the mornings. I really enjoy my coffee time and it has sucked this past week and not been special at all. I just chug it down for the caffeine. I know I will at least add the creamer back on February 1st because life is too short to not enjoy your coffee!

Truth is, I cheated midweek. You aren’t supposed to weigh yourself during the 30 days, but I just wanted to see that I made some progress to give myself some motivation to keep going strong. I hopped on that scale and realized I was down 4 pounds in just a few days. Ummm ok!!! I will keep going! No problem!

I love linking up with Andrea and the ladies from TBB Asks each month to answer some fun questions. These posts are some of my favorite to read as well, I feel like I always learn something new about you!

1. Resolutions or No Resolutions?

I mentioned before, but I don’t really do resolutions. I usually have something in mind that I want to work on for the year, but don’t set specific goals. It is almost always my health. Constant work in progress over here.

2. Love snow or No Snow?

Love love love love love snow!!! Unfortunately, here in Alabama we don’t get to see it often. We can go years without it. We were blessed with one beautiful snow day already this year though! I should edit to say, I love it just as long as there aren’t ice issues. That shit is scary and I think we all remember Snowpocalypse in the south from a few years ago.

3. Name a New Place you want to go this year?

I am not sure there is going to be any major traveling this year with a one year old. Chris and I do have  a bucket list of a few places that we want to go to though and I hope to make it a reality over the next several years.

We are all about taking advantage of what is within driving distance to us here in Birmingham though. Atlanta and Chattanooga are just two hours away. Nashville is about three hours. The beach is four hours, Gatlinburg is five hours. And we do like to go to Huntsville, which is just an hour. So hope to add a few day/weekend trips!

4. Would you rather have a new Hair cut or Hair color?

Color. I like to keep my hair long (or as long as the fine, stringy mess will let me), but get my hair colored at least twice a year.

5. Name one special thing you want to do for yourself this year?

My health took a backseat last year while I tried to find my way as a new mom. I guess I can say I sort of let myself go. I swore before I had a baby that I wouldn’t be that person who completely loses who she is just because she is a mom. I am working on getting back Nadine this year, and still being an awesome mom in the process.

6. Least Favorite thing about January?

I get the blues that the holidays are over. And that the month is filled with full work weeks. LOL

7. Most Favorite thing about January?

The clean slate feeling that the first of the year brings, and getting my house back in order after the holidays.

8. When do you take down your Holiday decorations?

I try to have them down by January 1st. If not then, by the next weekend for sure.

9. Do you diet in January?

The last three years I have done Whole30 in January. Even before that, I can remember making a conscience effort to eat better and detox after all the holiday splurges and treats.

10. What area of your home do you want to organize the most?

The entire thing! Honestly, we hope to put our house on the market sometime this year and move. So I am working on staging and making the house look awesome for potential buyers. But also keeping in mind my goals for a new home with whatever I buy to organize and stage, because I want to invest in things we love.

11. Favorite Winter Comfort Food?

I love savory foods in the winter time. I make a pot a soup just about weekly, usually for lunches but also dinner often too. So I guess soup?

12. Favorite Guilty Pleasure

Definitely a good Netflix binge!! I also find myself reading a lot of cheesy Christmas Romances in the winter. Though, I have to be honest and tell you that I never feel guilty about anything that brings me pleasure or joy. You shouldn’t either!

How would you have answered some of these questions??

I hope all my friends in the ATL stay safe today! I know you are supposed to be getting some possible road compromising winter weather. It is pouring here, but 36 degrees and *hopefully* no ice for us! We had been below freezing for so long, I had to remind myself a few times I was in Alabama and not Pennsylvania! I hope you all stay warm and have a fabulous week! I am double dipping and linking up with Biana too for Weekending!

I think seeing that I lost 4 pounds in a few days would be a huge motivating factor for me – glad you did it and that you’re staying strong! I tried to give up creamer in my coffee a few years ago but like you decided that life is too short! There are some things I’m willing to let go of… others, not so much. I love that you’re close to so many cool destinations. Hope you take a fun trip this year! Our weather has been crazy, too. We had two weeks of the temps not getting above freezing! it’s raining here right not but possibly turning to ice. UGH! Don’t mind the snow but like you want safe travel conditions!

Ugh I’m sorry the germs are coming in full force for Zoe! We are actually making our first soup in the crock pot today and I can’t even wait to get home tonight to have it!! Yay for comfort foods! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston

Oh no poor Zoe. Hope she is feeling better. I haven’t tired the whole 30 but it has me very intrigued. Although, I love my almond milk in my coffee. I can’t drink black coffee because it give me really bad heartburn and it’s just misery. I’m all about comfort foods in this freezing cold weather but I have been trying to limit it. I wish I didn’t love carbs as much as I do. haha.

Poor sweet Zoe! Girl, you have to be so excited for the game tonight! I’m with you, no reason to feel bad for enjoying things we love!

Kids & germs. How it goes. Poor thing.

I started weight watchers this weekend& I’m still like, my creamer is fine. Some things in life need to be allowed. I drink one cup a day during the week…it’s not going to kill me or make our break my weight loss.

The post holiday blues are for real! And awwww no poor Zoe! Hope she’s feeling much better for this week, but lol at the kids taking her down with their grossness. Seriously, how are these kids so germy?! Serena gets sick from there, she’s not dishing it out. So where is it coming from?! I’ll be SO relieved when the cold and flu season has calmed down. And get it girl with the Whole 30 progress, I’m always in awe of everyone taking the challenge. I know my love of cheese and creamer in my coffee would never allow me to do it 😛

Seriously that picture of Zoe & Belle is so cute. Sorry she wasn’t feeling well all weekend. Poor girl.

Congrats on the 4 pounds! Sorry little Zoe was sick, hope she is feeling better. Good luck with the rest of the month of paleo and the house staging, very exciting!

I’m all about cheesy romance movies on Netflix/Hallmark! I sometimes enjoy watching them mid-year too! lol And traveling to new places is something I want to do this year too. We’re so centralized to everything now so I think we might visit Alabama soon. Might have to e-mail you about recommendations! 🙂

Oh no, I hope Zoe feels better! Yay for Gatlinburg being so close to you-I really love it!

That’s awesome you’ve lost weight already! I’ve never done Whole30 but I started a weight loss program through my hospital about a year ago so I’m trying to get back into all that after the holidays and letting myself enjoy more. LOL It’s going well, but I DO need to be more active.

And you should totally not feel guilty about the things you enjoy!!

My kids are back to preschool/daycare this week and I’m wondering how long it will take before everyone is sick… We have been doing elderberry syrup every day this winter and so far haven’t gotten any bad cold so maybe (hopefully, knock on wood!) that is helping somewhat.

You guys sound like us this weekend – didn’t even bother leaving the house. I think it was just one of those type weekends! I also really love soups during the winter – they’re just so cozy and yummy, and you can practically put anything you want into a soup.

What are you currently watching on Netflix? I have never been to ATL and I’m only about 5 hours away isn’t that crazy? We will be spending most of our weekends away in the Gatlinburg area this year (I’m in NC.) Here’s to a year of you having great health and enjoying every blessed minute!

  • Reply Emelia Lawrence January 8, 2018 at 3:16 pm

4 pounds already?! YOU GO GIRL! That’s amazing. I hope Zoe is on the mend. Atlanta and Chatanooga sound great and nice that they are close. Wonder if there’s cool museums to take Zoe too in Atlanta? I’m sure there is. We are thinking about Seattle this year- we have been wanting to go and turns out there’s a good amount for kids to enjoy. We will be heading to NC again for a wedding but want a vacation for the family to enjoy too- not just wedding chaos. I have been Netflix binging like crazy with staying inside with Bella. I only left 2 times last week for appointments- it’s too cold and the roads are bad with all this snow! Hope you have a good week 🙂

That sucks that Zoe got sick already, but hopefully she’s feeling better! And I love the clean slate feeling of January too, although I feel like since I’m still on maternity leave right now it doesn’t feel as much like a clean slate since I’m not in the office, if that makes since. Good job on kicking butt on Whole30 so far! You can totally keep it up!

I love that clean slate feeling that January brings!

Aww poor Zoe- I hope she’s feeling better after lots of resting this weekend! Your Whole 30 food looks so good and it sounds like you’re off to a great start! I haven’t had regular coffee since getting pregnant, I weirdly lost the taste for it, but it would be so hard to have it without creamer, so I’m impressed! You guys have so many fun locations just a few hours away! We have a few trips to Michigan on the agenda for this year, but I think that’s the only traveling we’re going to do.

Love their questions! This is a unique time of year because it does symbolize a fresh start and new beginnings, but it can be really hard to motivate when it’s cold, dark and kind of miserable outside (plus that post-holiday depression). I am thinking about how I want 2018 to look and what I want to do, where I wanna go, who I want to be. Cheers to all good things!

Poor Zo Bear coming down with a fever! That’s the sucky thing about daycare or even school is that kids get each other sick. I hope miss sweet cheeks is feeling better. I have to agree about the holiday blues but the clean slate feeling in the new year brings joy for new beginnings xo Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis

I am totally working on my health as well. I want to lean out since I don’t eat as well, drink more (hello kids) and just indulge a lot.
