In My (Unpopular) Opinion

Do you ever see a product, show, idea, something get so hyped up…and you just don’t get it? It happens to me a lot. It leaves me over here scratching my head and thinking, am I just alone in this?

–The Bachelor/Bachelorette – I do not get the hype of these shows. Why do so many of you love them??? I cannot force myself to watch or care about any of the people on there. The whole premise of the show is gross to me. I don’t want to date some guy that is out dating and kissing a bunch of other girls too. That isn’t romantic or appealing to me at all.

–I don’t watch the Oscars, Grammy’s or any other awards show. Honestly, I find them rather dull and boring. And in the last several years, I honestly don’t know who the heck most of the people are who are on there or win??

–People magazine and other celebrity gossip. I just don’t give a shit. I have better things to do with my time than hear about their ridiculous lives.

–Super open floor plans. When I walk in to a house, I don’t want to see the entire house from the front door. I like open spaces, but not that open!!! If one area is a little messy, the entire house looks like shit. And also, have you thought about what happens when your kids get louder and older?? You are going to want to have some separation from certain rooms for your own sanity!

–Speaking of houses, why are all the new neighborhoods building them so close together????? Why in the world do people think, oh $400,000 for this house that I can reach out and touch my neighbor’s front door…sold!!! NO! I don’t want to live on top of my neighbor. And I want to have a decent yard for my kid to run around and be a kid. To maybe have a fire pit and some chairs to enjoy the mild southern nights in. What if you want to have a few people over? Where are they going to park?? Think it through!

–Crop tops – You were cute in the 90’s, but you should have stayed there. Not that anyone wants to see this post baby body in one anyways.

–Scrunchies – Why are you coming back??? Again, cute in the 90’s but not for adult Nadine.

–Mules – I want to get behind these, I really do. I own a pair actually, but I feel ridiculous in them!!! Maybe my feet are too big to pull them off? I dont know? You wear them, they look cute on you…but I need to remind myself how ridiculous I look in them every time I click on the links you guys share!

What are some unpopular opinions you have?

I am nodding and nodding and nodding along! So I purchased a pair of mules and had to send them back ASAP because they make my feet look huge! No way am I hopping on the mule train! So we built our house in 30 lot subdivision but there’re 2-3 acre lots thank goodness with a woods and river behind. No time for crops or gossip here either! Great post!

ALLL of the above! Yes girl yes!

Hahahaha- posts like these always crack me up. I watched the majority of The Bachelor this time around because my friends do and we’d text about it. Typically, I don’t care. I like the contestant AFTER the show is over and they go on to do other things. I think so of the people (who didn’t win) are hilarious and fun to follow on IG or Twitter.
    I can’t pull of mules either…
Our house is in a new neighborhood and, fortunately, we have some yard space. The ranches being built down the street from us are RIGHT on top of each other! I can’t believe how small some of the lots for sale right now are!

I still have scrunchies from my teenage years. #ancient
I cant even tolerate the Oscars or any award show. I don’t get millionaires congratulating millionaires for jobs that just seem like fun, ya know?,yoi travel the world, wear amazing costumes, meet other celebrities & then want to be patted on the back for it?

I’m not a big fan of mules at all — I mean, they look cute on the website, but I don’t know. And you already know how much I hate open floor plans and living super close to my neighbors. Just no. I couldn’t pull of a crop top or scrunchie now – or in the 90s! hahaha.

  • Reply SMD March 7, 2018 at 11:45 am

    No mules. No crop tops.

  • Reply Heather March 7, 2018 at 12:00 pm

I agree 100% with all of this!!!!

  • Reply Lindsay Latimer March 7, 2018 at 12:19 pm

I agree with all of these, except for the mules! I don’t know why I love them so much but I do. I think I’ve destroyed my feet in heels for so long that they were screaming for comfort!

I agree with all of these! But especially how close together the houses are in new subdivisions. We have friends in Denver who bought a new house last year and it’s beautiful and big but there’s NO yard and it’s so close the houses next door. I think I’d rather (and we did) buy a smaller house with a bigger yard.
    Crop tops? Yeah… No way.

LOL the one about the close together houses, very southern of you I love it. Don’t disagree! But yeah that physically doesn’t exist in Chicago.

I have to admit I totally get sucked into the bachelor/bachelorette but half the time it’s making fun of the people. I really don’t understand how people can subject themselves to it, plus the track record is not great for the show at all. Like maybe 5 couples have gotten married/are still together after like 20 something seasons. It’s crazy! And a big heck no to the 90s fashion!

  • Reply Sierra March 7, 2018 at 4:53 pm

I love this so much!! Yes, yes, yes to so much of this! The bachelor empire, nope, over it. Gossip magazines, blah. Open floor plan, kind of on the fence. I really want my next house to have a kitchen living room flow from one to the other but that’s really it. And yes, close neighbors I cannot do. I need my space and wouldn’t mind not really seeing neighbors. Mules I used to hate but then I tried them and like them a lot more than flats for the summer. Sierra~Beautifully Candid

denim overalls are also making a comeback…..which means i can pull mine out and wear them again LOL!!

  • Reply Amy March 7, 2018 at 10:50 pm

I hate awards shows. I hate Hollywood for that matter, can NOT relate to the fishbowl life. I used to LOVE the bachelor/bachelorette but it is just so fake I can’t handle it anymore. I am super jaded though lol. I love the idea of mules but I have wide feet… it does not work for me. You are in good company!!!

  • Reply Joey March 8, 2018 at 6:17 am

I was nodding right along with this post! Amen! I did watch the bachelor/bachelorette as a guilty pleasure for a couple of seasons but Only because I really enjoyed discussing it with friends. But when that got old.

  • Reply ShootingStarsMag March 8, 2018 at 8:24 am

Hah! Love it. I watch some award shows, but I don’t always know who people are either. And I hate The Bachelor and all those shows. I would not be cool having my SO dating multiple people all at once and then being all “hey, let’s get married…I just dumped my last girlfriend.” lol

OMG yes – especially to 1-3 above . . . who the hell cares? Why are people so obsessed with celebrities anyway? They poop like normal people, right? But I do love an open floor plan! 🙂

  • Reply Danielle March 9, 2018 at 12:44 pm

I love this. I hate award shows as well. And I won’t wear a crop top anymore. Nope. No one wants to see my scars from having kids. Having said that, I got a crop top for Rory’s 40th birthday since the theme is 90s. But I am putting overalls over it because I don’t want anyone seeing my belly. Nope. Ha. I do love watching the bachelor but I can’t stand all the kissing. It is gross.

THIS is why we’re friends. I agree with all of these. Every time an award show comes on and people start talking about the nominations, I’m like always thinking to myself surely to goodness I can’t be the ONLY person who doesn’t have a clue who half these people/shows/movies/musicians are.

Thank you so much Emma Have a good day x

  • Reply Teh Megan March 12, 2018 at 9:36 am

    Yes to all of this.
Although, we do have a pretty open floor plan and in the consideration of kids, we opted for the loft upstairs. This is where Pax and Meri do most of their damage and where I just walk by all the toys in the floor instead of picking them up regularly. #DoNotCurr

I was not cool enough in the 90s to wear anything besides scrunchies and I’m not cool enough now to bring them back. Although, there’s a lady at my work who has been wearing scrunchies for forever and I don’t have the heart to tell her that those are soooo over (because my opinion doesn’t actually matter and I should keep my judgement to myself). But really. Just no.

I agree with you about The Bachelor/ette and other trashy reality shows (Kardashians? NO) but I also HATE This is Us — I think it’s insanely cheesy and over-acted. I also hate wine :-/

  • Reply Lauren March 12, 2018 at 3:05 pm

Omg I totally agree with you about the houses!!! And there’s a development near our current house that has super expensive houses that are really close together and NO backyards! Just cray.

  • Reply Darby March 13, 2018 at 12:27 am

Oh.Em.Gee. Allllll of these I agree with, with the exception of the open floor plan lol
