Humble and Kind

When I was younger, I was taught to respect not just my elders but people in general. I was told to say please and thank you, to not speak over someone, and to appreciate what I had. That if I didn’t have something nice to say, then I shouldn’t say anything that all. If you wanted something, you needed to work hard and earn your way to get it. Are parents still teaching their kids these simple values anymore? I have to wonder when I see entitlement and ungratefulness everywhere.

With all the things that have been going on around our country and the world lately, I think Tim McGraw’s song, Humble and Kind, means even that much more to me. Even if you don’t like country music, please read these lyrics. These are the values that we all need to be living by.

You know there’s a light that glows by the front door
Don’t forget the key’s under the mat
Childhood stars shine, always stay humble and kind
Go to church ’cause your momma says to
Visit grandpa every chance that you can
It won’t be wasted time
Always stay humble and kind

Hold the door, say please, say thank you
Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie
I know you got mountains to climb but
Always stay humble and kind
When the dreams you’re dreamin’ come to you
When the work you put in is realized
Let yourself feel the pride but
Always stay humble and kind

Don’t expect a free ride from no one
Don’t hold a grudge or a chip and here’s why
Bitterness keeps you from flyin’
Always stay humble and kind
Know the difference between sleeping with someone
And sleeping with someone you love
“I love you” ain’t no pick up line so
Always stay humble and kind

Hold the door, say please, say thank you
Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie
I know you got mountains to climb but
Always stay humble and kind
When those dreams you’re dreamin’ come to you
When the work you put in is realized
Let yourself feel the pride but
Always stay humble and kind

When it’s hot, eat a root beer popsicle
Shut off the AC and roll the windows down
Let that summer sun shine
Always stay humble and kind
Don’t take for granted the love this life gives you
When you get where you’re goin
Don’t forget turn back around
And help the next one in line
Always stay humble and kind

Tea For Thoughts

My mind is still a little scattered as I try to get back in to adulting after vacation. Fun times, fun times.

–Speaking of fun times, I feel like there are never enough hours in the day to get all my reading in!!! I just keep adding more and more books to my to-read list. I downloaded a few to my iPad yesterday that were free through this deal site my SIL introduced me to. My first thought was….how am I going to fit all these in along with my summer reading challenge list? I am sure I will!

–Getting back in to the swing of things also means getting back to stricter eating and working out again. My lower back is still a little sore, so I have been going easy this week with two runs and some lighter lifting. Next week I hope to be back to full force!!!

–The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is open today for debit and credit card holders. Oh, how there are so many pretty things that I want!!! Kate Spade has a super cute purse marked down, the Michael Kors sandals I have been swooning over all summer are under $100 right now and I have seen so many people boast about the Zella active line and I would love to try a pair of their leggings. Not good for the wallet folks, not good at all. I am going to try to avoid stalking the sale at all costs.

–My week day routine at work always consists of at least one to two cups of tea per day. I love the many benefits of tea including antioxidants, free radicals, metabolism boosting properties, stress relief, and well if I am being honest…it keeps me from wanting snacks during the day. I consider tea my “snack time.” I usually grab a cup around 10:30 am when I start thinking about lunch, and then again around 2:30-3:00 pm to break up my afternoon and have a little pick me up.

One day, I was scrolling through my Twitter account and I saw Tea Drift. I realized they were a new company so I went to check out their site. They carry an expansive line of loose leaf teas for a great price! One of my hesitations when I go to the store, is that the loose leaf teas are $10-$20 for a whole lot of one flavor. I like to switch it up all the time so I don’t get burnt out, you know?

I sort of jokingly tweeted at them that I would blog for tea and well….I received this in the mail a few short days later!

You guys, they have certainly found a new customer in me!! These flavors they sent me were absolutely amazing. What I liked most, is that they have tea bags for purchase so you don’t have all this loose tea floating around in your water. Because let’s be honest…a lot of the stainless steel strainer looking tea items leave behind a lot of floaters. With this, you just scoop a tablespoon or two of the tea into a bag and let it seep in hot water for 3-7 minutes.

Their website is awesome because if you click on a particular tea, it gives you all the benefits of that specific one. You can certainly sell me on benefits!

Right now, Tea Drift is offering a free sample with any order over $10. Their tea of the month is Chocolate Mint, which is 25% off. I have never had chocolate mint tea and I am so intrigued! If you are a tea drinker, I highly encourage you to check them out.

I did receive a free sample of tea, but this is my honest opinion.

You guys know I don’t talk about stuff that I do not believe in!
