Books

It’s book day! I read some really good books this month from some of my favorite authors, so I just want to jump right in and share them with you!!! I think this is probably one of the best book months I have ever had as far as quality goes. Linking up with our wonderful hosts Steph and Jana for Show Us Your Books.

Saving Grace by Jane Green

Saving Grace

I love a good Jane Green book, she is the queen of beach reads! Saving Grace did not disappoint! I sort of guessed from the beginning what was going to happen, but that didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed this read! You really get some good character development and it does bring to light some mental health awareness. I found myself flying through it to see if my suspicions were right or not. Is Grace crazy or not?

Bottom Line: Read it! Great for the beach or a good pallet cleanser. Jane Green fans will appreciate.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Oh TJR, how I love thee. Let me count the ways!!! This book was soooo different from TJR’s other books, but I loved it just the same. As always, there is fantastic character development, and I loved having a story within a story. The lives of the characters were messy and imperfect and it makes you love them even more. It was fun learning all about Evelyn Hugo’s life and get a glimpse inside the real Hollywood living.

Bottom Line: Read it!!! And every other TJR book.

Rating: 5/5

**I received a copy of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are of my own.**

Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Maybe in Another Life

This was the only one I had left of the older books I hadn’t read of TJR and I couldn’t wait to dive in! You guys, this book!!! I couldn’t put it down. I loved how bounced back and forth between two outcomes, if Hannah went home with Gabby or if she stayed at the bar with Ethan.  I thought for sure when it started that I wanted the book to end with one outcome but then I decided a few chapters in that I was really enjoying both story lines. The thought that we could be living in multiple universes where we lead slightly different lives is crazy to think about and I think that is what I loved so much about this book.

Bottom Line: Read it!!! This book was SO good!!

Inside the O’Briens by Lisa Genova

Inside the O'Briens

After I read Still Alice, I knew I had to read Lisa Genova’s other books. But I also knew that I was going to need some time in between because Still Alice crushed my heart in ways I don’t want to talk about again!v This time we take a look inside Huntington’s Disease. You really get to learn a lot about the O’Brien family and their little corner of Boston. This book really makes you think about what you would do if you were one of Joe O’Brien’s kids. If you know you have a 50% chance of having Huntingtons, would you want to know for sure? I went back and forth on if I would or not and I am still not 100% decided.

Bottom Line: Read it! You really get good character development and you learn more about the disease and an understanding on not just how it effects the person who has it, but their entire family.

Wish You Were Here by Renee Carlino

Wish You Were Here

I am obsessed with Renee Carlino’s books. Before We Were Strangers and Swear on this Life were both so good, I couldn’t wait to dive in to this one!!! Right from the start this book had me hooked! I read half of it in one day which is rare for me these days with a baby! I kept trying to guess what was up with Adam but sort of knew in the back of my mind what was going on. I don’t want to say much more because I don’t want to spoil this book for anyone. Let me just say that parts of this book just broke me in a such a good way. I had a little cry, I had many smiles and all the feels and emotions.

Bottom Line: Renee Carlino has quickly become a must read author for me and I highly suggest this book! I can promise this will be on my favorites list for the year. Shout out to Kristen for letting me know it was on Netgalley.

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

Everything, Everything

I flew right through this book. Everything I guessed early on in the book ended up happening, so the book was a little predictable for me….but that didn’t take anything away from the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this one!!! Could you imagine living a life where you aren’t even allowed to go outside? To experience the world or come in contact with people other than your mom and nurse on a daily basis. I cant wait to see the movie that is being made for this book!

Bottom line: Read it!!! It is a quick, enjoyable YA.

Rating: 4/5

Hello, Sunshine by Laura Dave

Hello, Sunshine

I sort of guessed what was going to happen in this book too, so again, a little predictable but oh so good! I loved that this book sheds some light on the fact that we all try to be someone we aren’t on social media. We share our curated life, and Sunny let that curation take over her whole life. Sifting through photos and coming up with perfect phrases and making everything look just so. We all kind of do that, don’t we?

Bottom Line: Read it! This would be the perfect, quick beach read!

Talking As Fast As I Can by Lauren Graham

Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls, and Everything in Between

I love Lauren Graham. Lorelei Gilmore is one of my top favorite characters ever! I really enjoyed this on audiobook since she read it. I found her talk on dieting hilarious. She makes an excellent point by saying that Opera is still working on it. So there isn’t much hope for the rest of us right? And we should all just relax! Plus she referenced First Wives Club so that scored major points for me. I really enjoyed hearing her talk about Gilmore Girls and some of the other shows she was on. She is just as witty as you want her to be!

Bottom Line:If you are a fan of Gilmore Girls or Lauren Graham in general, then this is a must read!

Seven Husbands is STILL not even available at my library to put on hold….as in they haven’t even put it on order to get the damn thing in the library! Rude.

Wow so many of these books are ones I either enjoyed or books I know I would enjoy!! Sounds like a great reading month. Maybe in Another Life was really good and the thing I love about her books is that sort of torn feeling you have. I haven’t experienced that much with other authors – like you really aren’t quite sure what you want to happen!! I haven’t read Lisa Genova’s books but I did see Still Alice. I work with that population so they are on my list but I’m also surrounded by real life scenarios of these diseases at work so I need to find a balance!

Lisa Genova sounds so good ! I love books that make you think and what would you kind of books. Also, I am still waiting on Hoover library to get their shit together and add TJR to their library. Jerks.

Everything, Everything is such a conundrum for me- loved it, but don’t think the ending/mom’s issues were treated as seriously as they deserve (it was truly atrocious).

I adored the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo so much. It was also my first TJR but it won’t be last. Sadly, my library only carries one of her old books and one that interests me the least. GRRR… Jane Green is an author I see so frequently but haven’t read anything of hers. I need to do that this summer as she seems like a great beach read. I just requested Wish You Were Here on netgalley. Fingers crossed I get approved and appreciate the recommendation!

Isnt Everything Everything just adorable? I love the little pairing of those 2 characters. Swoon.

OK – I’m so jealous of all the people previewing the TJR new book. I WANT!!!!!!

The end of O’Briens PISSED ME OFF. Not the place for a cliffhanger.

You know I love TJR. She’s awesome.

WOW where do I begin? You had a fantastic reading month. I just received The Seven Husband from BOTM and can’t wait to crack it open. I loved Everything, Everything too. I can’t wait to read Hello Sunshine. I just picked up Lauren Graham’s book at Savers and excited to read that too. Pam 🙂

You seriously read so many books this month, and all of them sound so amazing too! I have to admit that Maybe In Another Life sounds like the most intriguing TJR book to me, but I definitely want to read all of her other ones. And I’m so excited that I will actually be reading one of her books soon because I picked it for Erin’s Challenge! Everybody has been talking about Wish You Were Here lately, so I definitely need to move that one up on my TBR list as well!

  • Reply SMD June 13, 2017 at 5:02 pm

I’ll definitely check out that other Carlino. And I haven’t read the second TJR you mentioned yet either!

  • Reply christina June 13, 2017 at 5:32 pm

You rated all of your books so highly this month. I love when I get on a good streak like that. I’m currently reading my first ever TJR book and it’s In Another Life. I am first on the library wait list for The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo though, so hopefully I get it today! I loved Lauren’s book too!

  • Reply Kristin June 13, 2017 at 6:00 pm

TJR books are just relaxing reads. They’re like guarantees of a decent story.

I’m so glad you loved Wish You Were Here. I was so worried it wouldn’t be as good as Swear on This Life! I’m excited to read Hello, Sunshine too. I loved Everything, Everything and Evelyn Hugo.

Maybe in another life was the first one I read by hear and I absolutely adored it, so glad you did as well! I couldn’t finish Lauren Grahams book – I really wanted to but just couldn’t finish it! I think I would like every book you have listed here with the except of Lauren Graham’s book. I don’t usually like books written by celebrities. Please don’t kill me. I just don’t think their books are that good. Lol. Adding the rest of the books to my reading list.

Hello Sunshine has been on my list, and now you’ve totally sold me on Maybe in Another Life too <3

You had a GREAT month! Checking out some of these now!!

  • Reply Teh Megan June 14, 2017 at 3:01 pm

I felt very similar about Maybe in Another Life. In the beginning I just wanted a resolution to ONE of the stories, but then by the end, I was ok with the parallel universe situation.
Definitely want to read Husbands by TJR.
Probably should read more stuff by the Still Alice lady. She definitely got me with Still Alice.
Everything, Everything, I felt like could/should have maybe dealt with Mom’s mental illness but it was a missed opportunity (we talked about this though).
I may have to side with Marie here about the Lauren Graham book. I just rarely dig books by celebrities.

  • Reply Megan June 14, 2017 at 9:38 pm

I loved Still Alice so I definitely need to check out Inside The O’Briens! Everything Everything is kind of different from what I normally read but it sounds really interesting.. just added it to my Goodreads list!

  • Reply Alexandra June 15, 2017 at 9:28 am

You read SO many books. Oh my gosh! I added Wish You Were here to my TBR in the last few weeks because of you, it sounds super good. 🙂 I also read Everything, Everything… but it will be in my next post. I really loved it. I read it in one day! 😛 The movie was not nearly as good, but still cute. I didn’t guess it.. but I’m not sure why… maybe because I was reading so quickly! hahha I NEED to read Lauren Graham’s book ASAP! Glad you loved it! XO – Alexandra

I can’t wait to read Seven Husbands. I still haven’t read any TJR books, yet. I also want to read the Renee Carlino books. I loved Lauren Graham’s book. I wasn’t really too worried that I wouldn’t but I was glad that she was so funny and down to earth in writing.

  • Reply Carly June 16, 2017 at 7:28 am

Ahhh soo glad you liked Hello Sunshine and Wish You Were Here– I’m hopefully going to read them this month at some point and I’m so excited! I really enjoyed Maybe in Another Life, and am also hoping to finally read One True Loves sometime soon.

Adding Maybe In Another Life to my To Read list. It’s so interesting to think how each choice we make changes the “storyline” of our lives. Hello Sunshine reminds me a lot of The Status of All Things by Liz Fenton
