Well, book day sure did come around quick this month! Linking up with Steph and Jana for Show Us Your Books!

My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella

My Not So Perfect Life

This was such a cute story, sort of a finding yourself book. Would be great for a twenty something who is making their way in the world. Or you know, a thirty something who still doesn’t know what she wants to be when she grows up and can relate to the shitty commute and politics game at work. I found myself LOL’ing a few times and I could really relate to Katie. I just loved how the theme in the book seemed to be that life isn’t always as it seems or is portrayed on Instagram. The characters were just wonderful and I really enjoyed it!

Bottom Line: Cute read! Just do it!

Turbo Twenty Three by Janet Evanovich (Stephanie Plum Series)

Turbo Twenty-Three (Stephanie Plum, #23)

You all know my love for Stephanie Plum! It seems like nothing changes in Plum land. She is still juggling Morelli and Ranger, Lula is still hilarious and these idiot criminals keep doing ridiculous things. Sometimes I wonder how many more of these there could really be. Yet, I never tire of reading them! I do wish that she would finally start to chose between Joe and Ranger though, you know? At least have a direction somewhere.

Bottom Line: If you are a fan of the series, this gives you a good dose of Stephanie, Lula, Ranger and Morelli!

Falling by Jane Green

Falling

I do love a good Jane Green novel! You know you can count on her for a solid beach read, and this one is even set in a cute little beach town. You have Emma, a former Banker from the big city, move to a quiet little town and get close with her landlord/neighbor Dominic. I liked the whole aspect of Emma trying to figure out who she is outside the banking/corporate world and turning a new leaf. She starts her own interior design company and I really liked that aspect of the book. Having Dominic’s son and his on and off feelings with Emma kept the book interesting, but there is just something that fell a little flat for me.

Bottom Line: While falling just a little flat, overall I enjoyed this book and would recommend it if you are looking for a beach read or are a Jane Green fan. It wasn’t my favorite of hers, but it is still worth the read.

The Digital Handshake by Paul Chaney

The Digital Handshake: Seven Proven Strategies to Grow Your Business Using Social Media

I always find consumer behavior interesting and like to keep up with the latest in marketing, advertising and just general consumer behavior. Of course, these days a lot of that revolves around the internet and social media. This book was written several years ago, but the main points still hold true today. I liked the author’s passion and thought the book was well written. I liked how he sort of describes social media has a cocktail party where meeting and conversation takes place.

Bottom Line: This is a great book for understanding consumer behavior and how to spread word of your business in a digital age with social media. I think some aspects even apply to blogging. While the book is a few years old, the main message is still very applicable today.

The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel

The Roanoke Girls

I started this book last month and I am only 60 pages in…still. It isn’t that it is a bad book, it is just that it is a physical book and I just cant seem to find the time to read right now. All the other books that I “read” this month were audiobooks in the car on my way to and from work, after I drop Zoe off. Zoe likes to listen to music in the car. I hope to finally finish it this month. And jump on the twenty Netgalley books I have sitting around. I wish Netgalley did audiobooks lol. It would make my life so much easier!

You know those first 3 are 3 of my all time favorite authors!!! I have not been good with my reading as of late but you always get me inspired to slow down and make the time for my beloved reading!! Have a terrific Tuesday and I hope the rain has stopped!!

It would be awesome if there were ARCs for audiobooks. I think about that all the time and the untapped potential! I’m sure we are not the only ones to feel that way. I ended up DNFing Roanoke Girls from Netgalley…I felt really intrigued but I just couldn’t do it so I just gave them that feedback, which I hate to do, but it happens. I really need to make a dent in my netgalley shelf before Christmas – I think I have like 26 books on there and a lot of them are old now!!
I enjoyed the Stephanie Plum novels up until about 15 and I could definitely do with another one for the beach someday…she just gets herself into hilarious situations haha.

I haven’t read a Sophie Kinsella book since college and the Shopaholic series, but that one might be a fun brain break next time I need one. I have a hard time making time for real books, too – I need the portability of an ebook so I can read in the dark!

The Roanoke Girls is on my TBR…totally understand what you mean about the physical book. Ebooks & audiobooks are sometimes just more convinient, no matter how great physical copies are.

The Roanoke Girls is somewhere on my to read list, I must have it on hold somewhere. I’ll be interested to see what you think when you finish it!

I love the lightheartedness of a good Sophie Kisella book! I’ll check this one out.

Do you think she’ll ever choose between Ranger and Morelli? I have my doubts.

That’s why I have a purse that fits a hardback in the back pocket. Books…never leave home without one, whatever one in whatever form. LOL

I really want to read My Not So Perfect Life. I feel like it would be really enjoyable – glad to see it was a fun one for you!

Yesss My Not So Perfect Life was so good! I seriously wish she could write a sequel to continue on the characters- they were all so fun.

I laughed in Not-So Perfect Life when she took a bite of fellow commuters breakfast. 😀 So funny! I love Stephanie Plum but did get bored since it never changed. I need lots of space between books, so then it reads like being with old friends again versus me grinding my teeth over the fact that nothing has changed.

I almost picked up the Not So Perfect Life the other day at Target… just because. 😉 haha

I really enjoyed the Roanoke girls! I hope you get a chance to finish it. I always struggle to remember to bring physical books with me since I have a kindle so sometimes I end up starting and taking forever to finish one.

Finding time to read can be so hard with all the craziness of life. I finally started another book but I haven’t picked it up in a week. I think I need to change that. Beautifully Candid

I’m pretty sure My not so perfect life is on my 880 books to read But it sounds perfect for me to read right now. I’m currently reading I’ve got sand in all the wrong places- it’s a bunch of cute short stories written by a mother and daughter. My friend gave it to me to read in the hospital and it’s good for lifting my mood.

The Roanoke Girls is so worth finding the time to read.

Fun fact: I confuse Jane Green and Jane Smiley ALL THE TIME

The digital handshake book honestly sounds like something I should read for work. While the others don’t really sound like my cup of tea, I’m glad you enjoyed them!

  • Reply StephTheBookworm September 12, 2017 at 3:22 pm

Lots of good ones! The Digital Handshake actually sounds right up my alley. I do all of our social media at work. Thanks for the rec!

  • Reply Jill K. September 12, 2017 at 3:48 pm

I keep checking My Not So Perfect Life out of the library and returning it before I have time to read it. I should get to it soon. And I agree – it’s time to pick Ranger or Morelli!

I have so many Netgalley books as well! It’s so crazy! And I’m so glad that you liked My Not So Perfect Life! It was so cute, in true Sophie Kinsella fashion! You know, I tried to get into the Stephanie Plum books, but I just couldn’t get into them. I think that I need to give them another try!

Always looking for good plane books 😉 I think I need to pick up that first one for sure!

  • Reply Marie September 13, 2017 at 11:03 am

Oh I so want to read that Sophia Kinsella books. I just finished a book by Jane Green and loved it. I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called but it was super cute. I’m reading The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton. It’s really good.

  • Reply Dani September 13, 2017 at 2:45 pm

I keep hearing about that Kinsella book but have yet to add it to my TBR. I thought it would be “too” fluffy, but I can certainly relate to a shitty commute, politics at work, and still not knowing what I want to be when I grow up. Sorry to hear Falling fell flat for you! Roanoke Girls is on my Kindle- I have to get to it soon! I also have about 20 Netgalley books sitting in the queue… oops.

  • Reply Alexandra September 13, 2017 at 2:59 pm

I’d like to read the Kinsella book. 🙂 I have about 14 books in my Netgalley queue… which is after just finishing two. Gah. It’s so hard to keep up. But I want to request more things and I think they’ll deny me if I don’t keep going. Maybe I’ll read 1-2 more… and then try my luck. 😛 XO – Alexandra

I’ve seen Kinsella on so many lists this month! I guess I’m going to have to give her a second chance. Digital Handshake sounds really interesting too — anything doing with social media interests me!
